This migrant problem is going to let Reform in isn’t it?

Honestly it’s such a bloody nightmare. Reform are making a total hash of local government from what I’ve read, putting teenagers in charge of whole departments with no relevant experience. What are they going to do if they are elected to run a country!!!! I’m honestly terrified. Labour need to be seen to be actively doing something to quell the far-right momentum that’s gaining traction from ordinary folk. I’m amazed at the average, usually pretty sensible people around me who are now telling me they are going to vote Reform.

there was an interview I saw yesterday where the minister said that thousands of people were being deported regularly. The interviewer asked why there were no videos of this and she said there could be. Well let’s see it! It would absolutely help.

Probably. It’s Farage’s go to scapegoat guaranteed to win votes.

2015
Migration is the problem….> it’s the EU’s fault….> Take back control of our borders and vote LEAVE

After the vote- Um, 😳 er it’s the Tories’ fault for doing Brexit wrong…even though they did the hard Brexit I said would do the trick.

2025
Migration is the problem…> it’s the woke left’s fault…. > save Britannia and vote REFORM

Day after- guess what he will say? Or rather, who will he blame?

I thought you knew what Reform voters were thinking.

I have asked, the answer is always that they don't care about the policies.

Really, well you’re still better off asking directly or reading posts on why. There’s enough to go on on here.

Give it a try, there are others who know more about what they’re offering. Or you could have a look.

If you think you know who I’m voting for then you’ve likely mixed up posters.

What were those reasons?

Gaining public compliance, frightening them into obedience and believing everything the government told them.

VilleValo · 24/07/2025 20:09

@EvangelicalAboutButteredToast Can't say I personally think it would be a good plan, but your suggestion would probably be popular with tax payers fed up of propping up the welfare state. There's only so far you can push the law-abiding working population. Labour hasn't done anything for them as yet!

littlebilliie · 24/07/2025 20:09

At the moment they don’t have any decent experience politicians however I do think that some will cross the floor if it looks like reform will get in. Junior ministers could end up running with a country I think it’s a real political opportunity

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 24/07/2025 20:02

I don’t think we know how Reform think they are going to sort out the problems that previous governments haven’t been able to. How are they going to improve public services without raising taxes for example? The only thing I can see they might try and do is slash the welfare bill by forcing people to work and stop paying for asylum seekers to be housed adequately so we’ll just have American style tent cities instead.

I think at this point Reform could probably do a better job than Labour. But then, Labour have set the bar incredibly low. I might vote Reform if it helps boot the useless PM out.

Like it or not, Reform know what the majority want.

There is never an aswer to that question.

Anyone cheering for a Reform government should be asking it though.

As you said, soundbites

myheadsjustmush · 24/07/2025 19:44

Something needs to be done.

My local town is full of illegal immigrants. I don't feel safe going there, and I actively avoid the place.

We have also had a fatal stabbing not long back. The culprit? An illegal immigrant.

Shoplifting is rife. Only yesterday I saw some lowlife run off with a couple of large potted plants from our local supermarket. The security guard just shrugged.

On a regular basis, there are warnings to parents to be vigilant because men are approaching children to get in their car.

This country has turned into a lawless $hithole.

You’re probably better off asking someone who has said they are voting for Reform.

The point was Labour use soundbites as much as any party, and a problem they have is many can see they were empty lines - gangs / taxes / other

Theyreeatingthedogs · 24/07/2025 19:42

Farage is a master populist. He is great at complaining and moaning and pointing his finger. He has no idea how to run a country. He can't even run the Reform party properly. He will always blame others.

EasternStandard · 24/07/2025 19:39

I am worried about women losing healthcare.

I am pro-choice - if someone doesn’t like abortion then they should have one.

I don’t disagree. But many women do

Maybe if people actually looked at the situation pre Brexit when certain controls were legally in place with regards to returns etc and post Brexit when the French and Belgians had no such obligations then it might get through why Brexit was such a shit idea in all kinds of ways. However the bigger issue is the fact of the numbers Johnson and Sunak allowed in ( plus their families needing resources) and encouraged ‘legally’ in order to mask the fact that Brexit was a shit show economically in terms of jobs that others simply didn’t want to do . I cannot believe people arestupid enough to actually believe Farages bar room pub talk without any idea of resources or money needed to go along with his back of fag packet policies - his bunch of total weirdos couldn't run a piss up in a brewery and it might take him getting in for many to realise that - I’m not that bothered as if it looks like he’s getting in then we will invoke nomad visas as luckily we can and be off . You will see a tax drain of people who can work remotely and have passive income like never before.

This.

I saw a poll that said 71% of British women want the abortion limit lowered, so their ‘conversation’ might not be that unpopular.

frankly, where I live, if people vote for reform I will breathe a sigh of relief that they are engaging with a democratic process. It could be worse. I’m worried about riots this summer.

I agree.

But unfortunately there are many who do not. Weirdly recently including a bunch of white British 16yos on tiktok (both male and female) who seem to think of this as some moral hypothetical quandary.

And then obviously there are sectors of society due to religion, culture or partiarchy/ misogyny who do not value women’s autonomy.

The former could vote Reform and their abortion conversation will be a bonus. Obviously the latter wouldnt be voting reform (as I am not talking about Christian fundamentalists here). However if this becomes a ‘national conversation’ then they will obviously be included in that.

It’s dangerous and not a conversation that needs to be had.

I am 45 now so it won’t affect me but I would be terrified for young women if they get in. Along with other people!

Reminds me that women only ‘gain’ what men let us have…until they change their minds

@Southwestten and @PandoraSocks

I have recently gone down a rabbit hole wrt American politics. We report on very little of what’s going on over there… and it’s a bad BAD situation.

(I suspect the UK news mollifies or ignores a lot of it as we have a ‘reasonable’ tariff deal and we know what happens when you get on the wrong side of Trump…)

I see the UK going the same way if we let Farage in. I totally agree… the local council shenanigans should make people turn away from voting for them, but we got hoodwinked into thinking that leaving the EU was a good idea and look what happened!

People are easily swayed by SM and sound bites. Our press knows exactly what buttons to press to get people riled up.

Farage is an excellent orator… just like Boris was. 😫

Im looking at Canada. You’re correct. The far right could win next, but I think Canadians are looking at what’s happening with their neighbour and will hesitate to go in the same direction.

Canada is a huge country and most of the issues that concern people are what’s happening in their state (BC) rather than their standing on the world stage.

It’s early days. I have an elderly relative who needs me atm, but I have relatives in BC and could move over there legally.

And Covid. I'm not saying that it was false, but there was certainly deliberate creating of fear and panic, for very different reasons. This media trick is now getting old. And it also means that if there's a genuine emergency, lots of people (like me) will be saying "yeah, whatever".

What were those reasons?
