This migrant problem is going to let Reform in isn’t it?

Honestly it’s such a bloody nightmare. Reform are making a total hash of local government from what I’ve read, putting teenagers in charge of whole departments with no relevant experience. What are they going to do if they are elected to run a country!!!! I’m honestly terrified. Labour need to be seen to be actively doing something to quell the far-right momentum that’s gaining traction from ordinary folk. I’m amazed at the average, usually pretty sensible people around me who are now telling me they are going to vote Reform.

there was an interview I saw yesterday where the minister said that thousands of people were being deported regularly. The interviewer asked why there were no videos of this and she said there could be. Well let’s see it! It would absolutely help.

I think the centre is shifting right. Labour needs to move towards the right, or hope that Reform and the conservatives split the vote more than Labour/LibDems/Greens/Corbyn are splitting the Left.

They say elections are won from the centre. This is the Tories problem : there isn't room for two far right parties. Reform will take a lot of their vote.

Labour have a different problem, they want to keep the centrist vote while also assuaging the anti immigrant ppl. If there is a ' reversion to the mean ' at the next election who will benefit? It's hard to see Reform breaking out really. Too closely identified with Trump and Brexit for one thing. And they're making a pigs ear out of the councils they control.

Maybe the Tories will get their act together and elect a moderate sounding leader. My money is on Labour with a much reduced majority. Maybe in coalition with Lib Dems. Boring ....but people have already done exciting with Truss and Johnson. It's a bit tiring isn't it?

Maybe. Although a fair few countries are seeing similar political shifts due to border / migration pressures. A secure border can become a centre policy for the electorate.

Labor for example in Aus won’t overturn the Liberals introduction of the border policy as they know the electorate want it to stay.

So your husband/children get cancer and you can't afford treatment, but that's ok because there are no brown people on the bus?

How having more people will help the NHS numbers? The NHS is run down as there are too many wasteful initiatives and lots of people need the service. Less people may help.

What people need to understand is there is NO SINGLE SOLUTION to stop the migrant crisis.

It is a lie. Much like Brexit will make you rich, it is a LIE. You are being lied to. Reform are lying to you. I'm not sure how many different ways to say this.

OK Keir

This is what I am picking up on ,when speaking to people to ,
It's going to be a single issue election next time
The winner being who we think will best sort this mess out

The price to pay for people like Sadiq Khan as mayor. He literally let London go to the pits. Crime and drug dealing are rampant and most people are rightly realising who are committing the crimes. The majority of immigrants come here to work and very hard but the fact of the uncontrolled borders to screen people properly imported whole gangs. People should start for acknowledging this. Then you have the elephant in the room of the predominant religious immigrants taking over whole areas and communities. They are alienating locals as you see they’re not integrating that much.

Well not the completely inadequate one-in-one-out fiasco. What were Labour thinking?!

I've made plenty of achievable suggestions just a few posts up. Most of those wouldn't even need new laws. It just needs political will. It would need some money, but that would be an investment, given how much illegal immigration costs us: £4bn per year currently, and only going up.

Edited

There is no will with Labour that’s the trouble. Just tinkering at the edges. Extraordinary when they must know this issue will cost them the next election.

Like a bilateral deal with France?

What voting?

EasternStandard · 29/07/2025 09:24

AzurePanda · 29/07/2025 09:03

Trump has done it and so have Australia.

Yep. Australia did a while back. It’s the voting so far that has stopped similar. It could change.

What do you think bilateral means?

I understand what bilateral means, thank you.
You haven't answered the question.

Why can't the government employ boat busters? Ex military, police types whose job it is to monitor the movement of an imminent boat and bust it.

Duh... I meant to add before I posted that the boat busters would be on the French coast before anyone got in it. They track the movements and ensure it is destroyed.

I don't think anyone has said that theres a single solution? Even Farage.
Would you prefer to just ignore it? Put it in the 'too hard' box?

Sure, there's no single solution. That doesn't mean we shouldn't identify and implement the many achievable things which will improve matters.

There are countries that have done it, so this caps stuff isn’t really true. It just takes a mandate via votes.

And which government is going to sanction the RNLI or even the Navy to stand guard and allow kids to die or worse sink the boats which would be sanctioning the murder of civilians. They can’t slash the boats on French soil as that’s not our land. The only way to solve it is to stop the people smugglers or cooperate with Europe to stop the travel of people across the landmass or of course stop the people from wanting to come by burning down hotels and talking about mass deportation.

Edited

Transfer them into Royal Marine landing craft and dump them back on a random French beach. It would only take a couple of weeks of that before they realised that attempting the crossing was dangerous, expensive and pointless.

Did you see the press that Farage was apparently talking about sending our worst criminals to reside in El Salvadorian jails? How the hell does he think he’s going to make that happen?!!! Its completely bizarre.

It's quite simple. We abolish the human rights act and pay El Salvador to take them. The Americans are already doing it.
