This migrant problem is going to let Reform in isn’t it?

Honestly it’s such a bloody nightmare. Reform are making a total hash of local government from what I’ve read, putting teenagers in charge of whole departments with no relevant experience. What are they going to do if they are elected to run a country!!!! I’m honestly terrified. Labour need to be seen to be actively doing something to quell the far-right momentum that’s gaining traction from ordinary folk. I’m amazed at the average, usually pretty sensible people around me who are now telling me they are going to vote Reform.

there was an interview I saw yesterday where the minister said that thousands of people were being deported regularly. The interviewer asked why there were no videos of this and she said there could be. Well let’s see it! It would absolutely help.

The idea of democratic elections is that the electorate decides who gets in . What’s so difficult to understand?

It's hardly surprising that many Labour voters prefer Starmer to the leaders of the other parties, surely? Apart from some inevitable confirmation bias, you'd hope that at least some of his policies somewhat reflect their world view more than other parties' policies do.

I wonder how many Conservative voters prefer him to Badenoch? Doubt it's as many as 7%.

It matters because Labour voters were in the majority last time, many of course were former Tory voters in 2019.

Voting intentions, this far out are meaningless, 4 years is several political lifetimes.

From another YouGov poll:

While Nigel Farage may be riding high right now, one question that should concern the Reform leader is the potential ceiling on support for his party

Labour may be in a lacklustre second place in the voting intention polls but when the public are offered the choice of Keir Starmer or Nigel Farage as prime minister, the incumbent holds a commanding lead over the challenger by 44% to 29%

Farage is seen as Mr Brexit, Brexit is not as popular as it once was.....

Better off to look at voting intention polls anyway.

Sky have done polling on Labours popularity, 50% of Labour voters regret their vote... BUT when it comes to Badenoch, just 7% of all Labour voters would prefer her as PM, against 77% who prefer Starmer.

Its very similar with Farage, 75% still prefer Starmer as PM, 11% Farage.

Thats shocking for the opposition parties, what are they doing??

We've a Reform councillor, he got in on 30% of the vote.

So no, i don't think any sensible person should write off Labour not winning in 2029.

Personally, i think the choices will be poor, so expect a low turn out, with whoever wins, having little mandate.

Depends on who they polled though doesn't it? Did they state their cross section?

Or an alternative interpretation of those same figures shows that only 51% of 2024 labour voters would vote for them again.
50% more people disapprove of the government record than approve of it.

Most recent weekly polling shows Reform are +2 on YouGov, and +4 on Find Out Now.

You sound like a modern slave trader.

Not a very nice thing to say is it?

Esp when i don't approve of taking people from 3rd World countries to work here in low paid positions at all, perhaps you voted for Govt's that have done this?

This state of affairs has arisen due to the tories/austerity and a v lax immigration policy.

Not my polling, Sky News, i was v surprised, even i don't like Starmer!

However, it was Labour vs Cons or Reform.... not Starmer against Badenoch or Farage.
My mistake on getting that wrong.

People who voted Labour last time, still want a Labour Govt, so it would appear.

No one accurately knows who they would vote for in 4 years time... its all to play for.

That doesn't match the Westminstsr voting intentions poll. Tories are out up here, it will be a choice between Reform or Labour.
I think you are wildly underestimating the anger in Red Wall areas against Starmer. He is loathed. At least around here.

In Wales it is a waste so time writing to our labour MP. They just say it's a Senedd matter.

Why failure? You cannot make people want to work in a low paid, high stress environment, with a public who refuse to pay the taxes to fund public services to European levels.

Its on us, we vote for this time and time again.

I'm starting to think that all the immigrants who work for essential services such as the NHS, care, agriculture, manufacturing etc should all go on strike for a week. Chaos would ensue, but Reform supporters might finally appreciate the contribution that immigrants make to this country.

About 19% of NHS workers are not British. Think of what would happen if they were all to leave the UK. Here's a clue - waiting times for appointments would not decrease.

I would imagine that the French would turn that boat full of migrants straight back to England.

We would then be left with: Accepting them back, firing warning shots towards the French boat to stop them landing, what it that didn't work? or taking back to France, where they would be under huge pressure to fire at us.

Quickly followed by a blockade of all French Channel ports, by fisherman, french navy, the Tunnel closed, close french air space to UK flights & the stopping of all patrols on French coasts, around 50% of crossings are prevented.

Edited

Yes it is really difficult but this constant influx of migrants is ruining our quality of life

What would happen if we did put one boatload of the migrants back on a ship and took them back to France. Perhaps the UK should do this as the French are not doing anything

I have sent this email to my MP, I have softened it a lot. I suggest that anyone that has any concerns over increased immigration does the same, it is better than doing nothing.

I am writing to raise serious concerns shared by many residents in our area regarding increasing pressure on housing, healthcare, and other public services.
In recent years, there has been a noticeable influx of non-local people settling in the area. While I recognise that population growth and diversity bring many benefits, the recent increased change of pace appears to be placing considerable strain on already stretched resources. Housing availability and access to healthcare are particularly concerning—many local families are struggling to access affordable homes, and the waiting lists for social housing continue to grow, as well as access to a GP due to the sheer number of people that each surgery has to cover.

Public services such as the NHS are under increasingly significant pressure. Access to appointments is becoming more difficult, and waiting times for treatments are increasing. These challenges affect everyone, but there is a strong feeling locally that long-standing residents are being left behind.
There is also growing unease about fairness in the allocation of jobs and benefits. While I fully support equal opportunity for all, there is a perception—right or wrong—that local people are sometimes being overlooked or disadvantaged when it comes to employment support and welfare services.
I would like to ask what steps are being taken to ensure that local residents are not being deprioritised, and that support systems are being managed fairly and transparently for the benefit of everyone.

This is not about blaming individuals or communities, but about ensuring that policy and planning keep pace with change and protect the needs of existing residents.

I would appreciate your views on these issues and any action you plan to take to address them.

Yours sincerely

I just posted this elsewhere but I think it is relevant here

Everyone on this thread should email their MP and inform them that they want the immigration controlled or that they are voting Reform if they are considering it. I'm going to do it now.

Dear
I am writing to inform you that I will be voting Reform at the next election given the opportunity of a Reform candidate in this constituency as I am disgusted by the number of immigrants being allowed into this country, changing and dividing our population,
Yours,

Include your postcode and address to prove you are a constituent.

I am just sending an email to my local MP (Scotland) now.

I live in Kent. I work in a local council but not KCC. My neighbours work for Kent CC. I’m not seeing or reading any major concerns regarding Reform running the council. Most local council functions are statutory. The staff there know their roles. It’s ignorant to think a political party can change a county council.

however more and more of my friends and colleagues are talking about immigration. It is a massive issue here. Our local town has changed. Too many young and old men hanging around. It’s intimidating. There will be an incident soon and it will explode.
