Anyone following the Canadian election today?

We don't hear a lot about Canadian politics here in the UK, other than the topline news.

Is anyone else following the Canadian election today?

Any Canadians who want to provide any insights into what's going on?

Mark Carney seems as though he's strong enough to stand up to Trump which feels as if it's what Canada needs right now. I wasn't a fan of Trudeau's approach to women's rights and gender identity - I was wondering whether Carney would be keen to keep the same policies and if so, whether that would undo him (as I think it did to the Democrats in the US).

I'm guessing now women's rights/gender politics won't really be a factor in this election because I imagine dealing with Trump is what people are focusing on (understandably so)? From what I've seen Carney has done a good job handling the orange manchild but is that the perception in Canada too?

I love an election so would be great to hear from anyone else following it!

I know, I had to check to make sure I didn't have the wrong day 😂

This link from the BBC explains the timings but in a nutshell, they're saying Mon night/Tuesday morning Canadian time.

That's really interesting what you say about your Canadian relatives @logicisall - I do wonder if the UK is more pro-Carney because of our previous connection to him with the BoE.

I can't understand what Trump is thinking. Does he want to undermine the conservatives? Or does he genuinely believe Canadians want to become members of the 51st state? Or is this a case of 'I asked them nicely' before he ups the ante?

the only good things Trump’s done is swing the elections in Canada for the Liberals. They’d have lost without Canadians seeing the devastation populist right wing politicians can wreck south of their border. I’m 99 pct sure liberals will win.

Apparently, Trump's been at it again, calling on Canadians to become the 51st state. Both the Liberals and Conservatives have told him to butt out of their leadership contest - neither want to be seen to be endorsed by him 😂

Many Canadians felt Trudeau was in the thrall of wokedom and won't forget that Carney was one of his top advisers for years. He has also proposed spending C$130B more than Trudeau.

From what my Canadian relatives are saying, the love foreigners feel for Carney isn't mirrored in Canada. Many in Eastern Canada are fed up with Liberals and ready to vote Conservative. Though Carney's tough stance against Trump will swing it for him, I think.

I was disappointed that Trudeau stepped away but considering the abuse he got I'm not surprised.

I think Carney is by far the best option as he opposed Trump.

@Lavendersquare that was very much my thinking too. Everything he's done so far seems to back up that opinion. I hope he wins.

Watching it with interest, I liked Mark Carney when he was at the BoE always seemed to make sense so I think he would make a good choice.
