Just watching the news here and feelings are ranging from "meh" to despair. How the H-E Double Hockey Sticks did we get here?

Canada has been ripping us off for a very long time on trade;
we defend Canada for nothing;
they don't pay us to defend Canada;
who's the worst to deal with on trade? That's easy - Canada. They feel entitled.

I see SK is imposing at 50% reciprocal tax on US alcohol. 👍
it's the least that can be done considering we made a concession to re-stock US booze before negotiations broke off.

I think the biggest stick is travel, though. No Canadian should set foot on American soil.

And no money should be spent on non-essentials from the US, so no online shopping from US retailers.

Yes, but Trump is still in charge and his party is happy to support him. I think some ideas are his and some are the party's. They're all f'ing crazy, but equally terrifying.

I think 6000 pairs of electric shock gloves have been order for ICE. What kind of society is envisioned? Dystopian is the only answer.
The changes in, and aggression by, the States have far-reaching implications.
The joking about Trump has allowed people to just write him off as a nut and make excuses and justifications for his behaviour, but, again, his party is behind him and I think their vision for their country is deeply troubling and dangerous.

my absolute hate for american's and all things american grows by the day.
they voted in this absolute nutcase of a president who is so undiplomatic rude and simply uneducated he must be a true reflection of american's because they certainly are not rallying against him.

That's what's so fascinating.
In their last election the R's and many D's made Biden out to be so completely incompetent pushing people to vote R or abstain from voting. Trump was just as vile as ever and had been impeached! The D's helped get him re-elected, ffs. 🤦‍♀️
The R propaganda machine was in full gear and was helped by the D's and celebrity D's like George Clooney among others. 😵‍💫🙄

DT has or had some interesting concepts but his execution is aggressive and childish.
He has really opened my eyes to the meddling and corruption blatantly obvious in US politics.

He doesn't have any interesting concepts, they are reused concepts from a time forgotten. It was called the Munro Doctrine. It was an Imperialist policy and very aggressive.

It's something that we should never pursue and rightly so.

This is going to end up in war... Denmark, Canada or the Falklands....it's coming and everyone knows it.

well @dwordle i too would like to see canada reshore some of it's lost employment and similar to many countries see ongoing immigration accountability.
but his approach to these and many other issues has been aggressive, confrontational and undignified.
