Any other Canadians on here wanting to comment on the trade war (US friends welcome)?

Just watching the news here and feelings are ranging from "meh" to despair. How the H-E Double Hockey Sticks did we get here?

Because the extreme right/maga uses the flag and the term patriot as their symbols. If you don't fly the flag, or wear a flag pin etc you aren't a patriot. And only the right are patriots.

Yes. I think flying a flag in the USA is a way of life. It means more there. However others are patriotic and also care about their countries. The flag rallies the numerous Americans with roots elsewhere so has a different use.

I do think America First is something to worry about though. It’s not remotely considering others who are affected: even your supposed friends.

One little green shoot: Tesla (of all the companies) has said it will be short of parts with a trade war. The message is unsigned I heard but they can see dangers ahead giving them supply issues.

Can any other Canadian Costco shoppers comment on price increase across the country? I bought Kirkland coffee in January at $23.99. Yesterday the price was $29.99. That's a 25% increase which would seem to match the tariff's we're applying to US products.
For reference, Kirkland coffee is widely known to be made by Starbucks for Costco. I'm in Vancouver.

I am pretty much asked weekly 'where in America are you from?' and I don't hate it. I am a Cdn in the UK.
Also. You don't have to fly a flag to be patriotic. Personally I think it's overkill when I'm in The States to see them flying from every corner, it's all a bit much, but that's me.

Meanwhile, Portugal has cancelled buying US planes and AUS reconsidering a US submarine collaboration. Canada as well reviewing our fighter jet contract with the USA. Big $$ contracts being lost due to lack of trust.
Not only elbows up but arms up.

AUS is also on the receiving end of tariff issues with Trump.

@Mumtobabyhavoc Sort of. I was born in the UK but lived in Canada from the age of 2. Sadly, I don't have an English accent but at least rarely get asked if I'm American (Canadians hate being mistaken for Americans). So yes, we are retired, though young retirees.
Canadians are also not particularly patriotic. I don't think I've ever seen a Canadian flag on someone's porch. But the recent "pulling together" and yes, patriotism, is doing my heart good ❤️

It might be sensible given Trump rolls over weakness and indecision.

I am a fan of Doug Ford for his threats over electricity - he just needs to implement it.

I think that military support in the worst case scenario will be part of the conversations with the UK and France.

I think Canada (and WmEU/UK) thought it was electioneering to fire up his base and that there would be bumps in the road but not volcanos.

Pretty much everyone in my circle (and conversations with random people) were of the opinion that the US would be much closer to dystopia, a la Handmaid's Tale, under Trump. I think there are many factors that made it impossible for American voters to see that possibility.
it's much easier to see it from the outside. And the GOP machine is relentless in its messaging.
