Don’t buy American goods

It would be nice if Canadian products in the UK carried a flag or prominent label. I'd buy them to support Canada against the US tariffs.

It shows my ignorance but beyond maple syrup, I'm struggling to know what to look for.

No thanks. I don't want to plus I don't think my contribution (and we're travelling to the US this summer too)will affect Trump.

He's not trying to end a war, he's trying to profit from it while also trying to look like the hero. It's a business deal to him, but that doesn't come across quite as well in sound bites.

Capitulating to a dictator, outright rewriting history to name the invaded country as the aggressor and the elected leader a dictator while refusing to acknowledge Putin as a dictator and the aggressor, then rinsing the invaded country for an incredibly valuable resource worth more than any security given with no guarantees to actually provide proper security in the future, isn't "ending a war". He showed his hand with his "you don't have the cards" diatribe. He thinks he's playing a game. Ukraine is trying to survive. Exploiting that for gain is despicable.

But what do we know, the UK hasn't fought in a war for 30 or 40 years 

I've thought about this but struggle to act as boycotting will directly affect British and Irish people's own incomes. For example I don't want my local Macdonalds to close as this would directly affect the employees of the restaurant, farmers and manufacturers. This in turn will directly affect every tax payer.

I am open to suggestions though, especially imported goods that aren't made or sourced in the UK.

Tesla sales are falling as they are expensive. Far more options on the market. Several Chinese makers making inroads. Price is king. Many people will switch from one monster to another.

Half the time people don't know what's American. On another thread a poster from Canada says she's buying Cadbury chocolate. It's British! No it's not. It's USA owned. We have little notion of parent companies. Just a vague idea. Ford and Vauxhall are USA owned. Vauxhall is Stellantis who also own Fiat, Peugeot and Citroen and Jeep amongst others. So always look behind the brand.

I'm doing what I can to boycott anything american! Unfortunately my husband is american so can't boycott him, but I will not be going there to visit his family in the next 4 years

Whatsapp and facebook - most or many people use them. So I guess in that case it would be a boycott.

Tesla on the other hand I guess it's more likely that people who were planning to buy an electric car won't buy from them. Less likely for most people but the boycotts are still making a difference - sales are down something crazy the last month.

It's not about being perfect. It's about choosing not to spend money where you possibly can practically avoid it.

Such as no longer buying on Amazon is an easy one.

On the other hand not using your Apple phone or Oyster card or whatever is entirely impractical.

People are encouraging others to make small changes where they easily or relatively easily can. Not be saints.

It's a bit tricky for me as a Tube employee, or anyone who uses a barrier on London's TfL services, to boycott the USA. The Oyster card, the barrier, and the software comes from the United States. The ticket machines are also American. Should I quit?

I also use a Google phone, a Ninja Foodi, PS4 (yes I know I'm out of date) and I love American food. Soz.

Here in Canada we're fighting back by boycotting as many American products as we possibly can. Trump is trying to destroy our already weak economy with his damned tariffs. Fuck him! 🤬

It's quite easy to boycott what you don't use, I will boycott Facebook, WhatsApp, Microsoft and Tesla as an example.

It’s certainly sobering to realise how dominant American companies are particularly in the tech/online sector. And often the only serious competitors are Chinese which is not exactly inspiring confidence either.

And it goes deep - I don’t think people think about the fact that virtually all modern websites are hosted in “the cloud“ - sounds nice and nebulous but it just means “other people’s computers”. The biggest cloud providers? Amazon (aws), Google, Microsoft Azure…
This includes UK government websites btw.

I seem to recall many posters whole heartedly agreeing with posters who suggest boycotting Israeli products, yet the suggestion to boycott American products is laughed at or sneered at

I will be doing my best to ensure that I dont buy American products, it wont be wholesale because of the infiltration of their products to everything in our lives in the UK but it will be something

In one of my jobs, I get paid in Amazon vouchers. A bit difficult to boycott them!
