Arthur Scargill shouting on the news on the telly when I was really young. I thought he was a baddie as he was so angry and shouty.

I think the miners strike of the early 80s. Remember the footage of the picket lines on the news, plus my grandparents lived in an affected area so I remember mobile soup kitchens for the miner's families driving around their estate.

My Mum taking me to see Harold Wilson speak at a Labour Party rally in Brighton Dome when I was about 6! I still remember the hugely enthusiastic audience clapping and cheering. Don’t know what the occasion was or the exact year. Must have been a party conference or pre-election rally? Neither parent was a party member, but both were staunch Labour supporters!

Power cuts in 1977 - just started my first job and often went home early due to scheduled cuts.

I was 17 and prior to that had absolutely no interest in any politics.

Being told to be quiet when my Dad was watching President Nixon resign on live tv. I was 6. Also remember Harold Wilson resigning in 1976.

Same for me as my dad was a miner. Not that I really understood it at the time as I was very young, although I knew it was something important.

The power cuts in 1974 due to miner’s strikes and energy crises. I was about 2. I just remember the candles really!

After that, a mixture of John Cole reporting on the Troubles in NI and that lovely lady who challenged Thatcher live on Nationwide about the sinking of the Belgrano.
