Of course I realise that! I know he has advisers, researchers (one of my uncles was an MP) intininery planners etc. I was commenting on how a PM must have constant demands on them and that it would absolutely overwhelm most people

I guess, as a human rights QC, he has dealt with some pretty horrible people (without retaliating or topping himself after the nightmares he must have had) here and internationally so good training for his current job. He must have fantastic self control and a huge amount of determination.

You do realise it's not just Starmer doing everything. He will have staff working for him to do research, plan his itineraries, telling him where he has to be, at what time, who he will be meeting, preparing notes and speeches for him etc.

😅I'm sat here tying to motivate myself to wash my hair and then put a chicken curry in the slow cooker! If I was PM I'd be looking at a way of shuffling into the HoC in my pjs and slippers clutching a big mug of tea!

I think that it does not take its toll on those two because they are totally devoid of empathy and compassion and see high office simply as a means to feed their egos and enrich themselves.

I always wonder this too, I think about how little sleep they must get, how many phones they need to have ( I would lose them!), all the stuff you must have to remember about so many different things and how everyone you meet naturally feels that their issue is the most pressing. Then there must be that sinking feeling everytime Trump does or says something! I know that a PM does not have to cook, clean, plan meals, do the garden, maintain a house etc, but my head would be wrecked by the endless never ending crises and I would run off crying!

Enjoying the adrenalin and dopamine hits is completely different to the physical and mental toll it takes on a person.

I've loved my (in the great scheme of things) insignificant jobs. But there comes a time when it doesn't matter how important it is, you aren't sleeping, as at best you're passing out from exhaustion, when you wake you feel as though you haven't slept for a month and your only concern is making it appear that you're fine.

They live for the thrill of being in the public eye and making big decisions. Also - all first class, the best of everything, and not a domestic worry to enter their heads. Lots of high powered lawyers/business people are the same. Nothing compared to 'our' lives at all.

This is all so true. I'm knackered just working from home and I'm really lazy doing that. I cannot imagine even doing one week in one of these politician's jobs. They should be advertising multi-vitamins.

Yes, I agree. I always think it’s very interesting (and scary) to see how much our previous PMs have visibly aged during their time in the role. The stress definitely accelerates the ageing process!

He cancelled his holiday in the summer because of the riots and he didn't get much of a Christmas holiday because his brother died, so I hope he can have a break before too long, but this Ukrainian situation may preclude that.

He’s had at least two holidays since the election that I know of. Sensibly he goes under the radar.
