Playing Trump like a fiddle, knowing his weakness for flattery and star power. Starmer begins by presenting a letter of invitation from Charles III.

He says he has been chosen by god and is going to take Greenland

That's not at all like invading a separate country. He probably thinks Greenland will be delighted.

Trump is more dangerous than Hitler, that twat has a red button and is stupid enough to push it!

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2025 22:31

Vance compared him to Hitler

Some might take that as a compliment these days!

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2025 22:31

Zonder · 04/03/2025 22:27

He did also once describe Trump's views as repugnant.

Seems fair to me!

Convicted felon?

Considering the terrible names Starmer called Trump in the past he has used the invitation for Trump to meet the King as a sweetener, otherwise he’d have a LOT of grovelling to do!!

I laughed out loud at “really special”. Like if you’re giving small children something and one of them has to have a different colour cup…”no, this is the SPECIAL one” 😂

It really is like dealing with a toddler, isn’t it! The other day I was idly pondering why his hair colour varies so much, so I googled it and it turns out it’s because he won’t sit still properly for the hairdresser. My immediate thought was, why don’t they get him one those special barbers chairs that’s in the shape of a horse or a motorbike?

Me too - agree that a calm measured lawyerly approach is what we need. I also agree that his job is very very hard right now. Some of the media have acknowledged that, others haven't. People don't have to agree with his every move but they could admit there is no great solution to any major problem at the moment and give his approach a chance.

Gosh can you imagine our very own orange t£@t meeting Trump to discuss Ukraine? What a disaster that would have been

What does the UK want from Trump then?

For him to disappear?

No one believes that the RF are more important than anyone else. But they do have a job to do and they are good at it. You only have to look at Trump's body language to see that he was very pleased with the invitation by the King.

The discussion has on. Charles is hosting Zelensky today.

Ownedbykitties · 02/03/2025 17:54

Sleepington · 01/03/2025 12:02

You keep telling yourself that. You’re not convincing anyone else

I don’t need to convince anyone. I’m not in a bubble in the UK. I am looking in from the outside. Apart from gossip and scandal, the British Royle family are no more relevant outside the UK than the Romanian or Dutch royal families are. It is simply a fact. But believe if you will that the British royals are more important to non British people than any other other royal family.

The soft power of the Royal family really does exist.

Sticks in the craw, though, doesn’t it?

Doesn't stick in my craw. Good on our head of state and government for getting Trump engaged in conversation.

Wildflowers99 · 02/03/2025 15:04

We basically need Verys from Game of Thrones.

I’m actually really glad it’s Starmer in charge at the moment, whatever you think about him at least he is measured in his responses and won’t go making any rash decisions and maybe he’ll be able to restore some sort of dialogue between Ukraine / US.

I’ve always liked Starmer, though I think he has an almost impossible job to do both domestically and abroad.

Dervel · 02/03/2025 12:33

I think we need to tread very very carefully. Putin is the bigger danger than Trump. We need to fix relations with the EU, and ensure a security shield around. We all need Ukraine as much as they need us. In fact if anything as they are fighting they are keeping us safe and giving us time to plug NATO resource shortfalls.

I think this diplomatic deployment with our PM, King Charles is all we can do for the time being to try and lessen the impact, Macron played a blinder too with Trump. However these measures are only going to buy us time. We have to get our ducks in a row and learn to rely on America less and less.

I’m very sad to see it, as America was a nation founded on some solidly noble values, but in some ways it has become a victim of its own success, but a lot of those principles have become lost now or at best largely misunderstood.

it is a solemn and weighty thing to see liberty die in America, but those values are alive in the nation of Ukraine and Europe. That is where we must place our hopes and support in the immediate future.

bombastix · 02/03/2025 12:27

Charles is known for his unusual correspondence- I can well believe he's been writing to Trump. He writes a lot of interesting letters.

MikeRafone · 02/03/2025 09:53

Jacquettes · 02/03/2025 05:12

The source?

Very unlikely since a letter Prince Charles, as he was sent a letter to DT in the 1990s and he was gong to publish it - against the Kings wishes as a private letter. He is therefore unlikely to have been sending letters to the very same person.

Whats more Trump tried desperately to woo Diana, the Kings late wife although DT rejects this claim. Diana was bombarded with floral gifts from Trump?

TizerorFizz · 02/03/2025 09:20

The king has to act in our best interests. We don’t have anything else to offer. We would like to ensure our safety and peace as far as we can and we have hoops we need to go through. Might be distasteful but we cannot ignore the USA .
