A Christian sermon is now more controversial than a nazi salute! WTF!

Republicans' reactions to Rev Mariann Budde include calls for her to be booted out of the US due to her sermon reminding the congregation (which included Pres. Trump) that the Christian message features some very basic principles such as treating others with humanity and respect. Georgia congressman Mike Collins Budde, a US citizen, “should be added to the deportation list” because of it. So, is the US now a place where people will condemn the basic tenets of Christianity but celebrate a nazi-saluting notorious proponent of trans-humanism (why doesn't Trump call out this frankly creepy and downright wicked pursuit and picks on vulnerable people instead?)? What of freedom of expression? A one-way street? Those who branded the Reverend 'leftist' and closed their ears to her message should not be calling themselves Christians.
One of my good friend lives in Georgia. She told me that one of her local church ministers got told off by his congregation for talking about the ten commandments because 'too leftist'. I shit you not. I don't normally pray - at least not publicly- but really, God help us all!

And the Germans certainly recognised it for what it was. They would know.

Again he pumped his heart then arm out not a nazi salute at all 🤦‍♀️ did you post about Kamala doing it ? What about Obama ? What about Taylor Swift ? No ? Didn’t think so. This is getting tiresome and people really need to start using their critical thinking skills.

And that was not the time nor the place for the so called sermon.

@Whoknew24 Are you seriously unable to appreciate the significance of moving versus still images in these circumstances? And you have the audacity to lecture on critical thinking skills 😆

Interesting. So the Jewish academics who believe he gave a nazi salute have half a brain? Nice.

She was wonderful wasn't she? I had the service on tv but wasn't really paying attention until she started with her plea for mercy. I was transfixed! And delighted to see that Trump was clearly furious! He thought it was a disappointing service ... The sheer hypocrisy of claiming to be an instrument of god but implementing such cruel policies. I don't know how Trump and his cronies have the audacity to set foot in a place of worship.

Yes she was and I too was delighted at her courage and faith. Mariann Budde, Bishop of Washington carried out her Christian duty with grace and humility.

Well done that woman.👏👏👏🤎

StandFirm · 22/01/2025 12:27

Not the time or the place? A church? After the most controversial figure in modern American history has re-entered the White House? Talking about unity and respect at that time is wrong?? Have you been to the US recently and seen how extremely divided it is? I've recently been to both blue and red states. It really quite obvious.
Only through calm and respectful influences like hers can we survive the coming era. Those values might move underground but they'll never die off and I love that she voiced them whilst she could.

😂😂😂

Now I have heard it all. A church is not the place for a sermon?

It wasn’t Christian at all, she was rude, patronizing, pathetic and lied.

Of course it was Christian. What she preached was all that is good about Christianity.
Jesus forgave and was tolerant and merciful. These are the teachings of the bible.
I’m an atheist but was moved by what she said.

Actually, all the autistic people I know (myself included) are steaming mad about the "but he's autistic" defence. Magical how many of us manage to not look like we're doing Nazi salutes.

Well said. He seems to roll out that diagnosis whenever it suits him - it is apparently also responsible for his harassing women and bullying people. Of course, with the money he has you can buy anything.... including diagnoses.

Floppyzebra · 22/01/2025 12:22

This is what happens when you start with a lie (that he did a nazi salute), you end up pushing people away and losing them.

I would say that nobody with an actual brain thinks it wasn't
Anyway, I am not a Christian and don't generally like sermonising BUT whatever your view this woman is very brave and principled.
It took some courage to do that and she is being true to her faith.

Would love to know what fraction of a brain you’re in possession of…

It’s obviously not a Nazi salute. Some people are calling it that because it suits their bias that MAGA must be fascist.
X have lots of videos of left wing people doing the gesture eg AOC and Obama but it’s not considered a Nazi salute because they aren’t right wing.
If this was a MN’s son on stage then people would be saying disability discrimination as EM has Asperger’s and his body movement can look awkward and exaggerated to NT onlookers.

There’s going to be at least 4 more years of extreme dead cat politics so brace yourself.

StandFirm · 22/01/2025 12:14

She talked about common ground, respect and unity!

It's the worst parts of Puritanism, which is an especially unforgiving brand of Protestantism.

Preaching basic tenets of Christianity in a polite and gentle manner during a church service is hardly rude.

And how exactly did she lie?

DemonicCaveMaggot · 22/01/2025 12:11

Right wing Christianity in the US seems to run along prosperity gospel lines. If you are rich it is because you are living as God wants and if you are poor and unfortunate then it is because God is punishing you for something. It is very convenient if you are rich and like judging people.

EmmaMaria · 22/01/2025 12:10

Zonder · 22/01/2025 11:57

It's absolutely shocking. And somehow the American Christians will defend him.

Brave woman.

She wouldn't be the first person to be crucified for reminding the powerful about their obligations to the poor and disinherited.... I am sure she believes herself to be in good company.

Telling people it’s impossible to change Sex and stopping illegal immigrants at the border isn’t cruel, it’s basic common sense. If he can smash the drug cartels, even better.

This is entirely missing the point I am trying to make.

He just pardoned the founder of 'Silk Road' so I guess some drug dealers are OK in his book, just not brown ones.
