Why do people in the UK support Trump?

I've even seen MAGA flags (ok, maybe the owner was American). But Trump's focus and ONLY thing he cares about is America. He couldn't give a shit about the UK and would happily see the UK in ruins if it benefited America.

I think some people like him because they're actually fascists.

I think others like him because he uses short, easy words that they can understand and offers very simplistic views on incredibly complex subjects. That's probably very appealing to people who find that understanding complexity and nuance is a bit beyond them.

That's exactly it. Even when people suffer under Trump, Brexit, Reform etc. they will still be brainwashed into thinking all their problems are caused by people in small boats. They'll think if we can just get rid of all the brown skinned people everything will be OK.

Exactly this. Meanwhile very wealthy people grow even wealthier, the middle class disappears and poor people become more numerous.

But let’s blame foreigners. Immigrants seeking a better life. Those people who contribute significantly to the GDP. Let’s blame them.

Yes it is a form of misplaced penis envy. They long for a British version of Trump to sweep into power. Then , as their homes and jobs vanish , they could cry into their pints of Doombar in the local Spoonies. And say : ' I didn't vote for this. Mind you Mr Trumpington isn't to blame. He was doing his best but the EU messed it all up. Bleedin foreigners'

Likely to be the same type of people who support Farage

Someone who supports a racist, xenophobic, homophobic, sexist and pig ignorant leader is likely to share the same traits...

Utter nonsense . Trump won by a thin margin . Trump appealed to billionaires and those who thought his populist campaigning was sincere . They will find out now as one of his mantras was the price of eggs but he has done nothing yet in his first signed documents to help the little guy . He did take away the affordable medecine and healthcare in one of his first acts .

He also appealed to a very large percentage of white male voters and quite a substantial percentage of white women voters. The dog whistling was intense.

Yes, Trumps win margin was very thin. He won by less votes than Hillary Clinton lost with in 2016.

Many of his followers did not seem to understand that Obamacare was pretty much the affordable care act.

It seems to me that MAGA-ites do a lot of magical thinking. That if they just think something is the way they want it to be, it will be

Jacquettes · 05/03/2025 08:30

Vance referring to the UK as a ‘random nation’ and not been to war in the past 30 years. The man is an idiot, but a dangerous one imo.

Apparently he’s backed down from his statement but running off at the mouth like that is so very unwise and stupid.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 05/03/2025 06:22

Because, like their American counterparts, they lack understanding about the implications. For example, the fact that their tariff programme will be so expensive for Americans as well as others. Here is why

The biggest nutter is Starmer but I assume you think he’s great !

That's so funny. Given what we have seen from DT and KS in the last week this statement says a lot about you. Even arch Tories have praised KS this week.

Petuniaspetal · 04/03/2025 19:41

Trump appeals to some because they think he is a crypto president and that his radical 'cleansing' of the government and their land is what they want.

If project 2025 principles were implemented into the UK eg no unions no overtime and no workers rights the same people would be on the streets rioting.

As for crypto, while his impending presidency showed some hope of a better crypto environment fir the money men his overall policies are simultaneously tanking the economy and now by extension dampening the crypto market.

The only group likely to really benefit from his policies are the billionaires and their tax breaks.

Oblomov25 · 04/03/2025 19:40

Eh? Who supports him? Everyone I know is horrified and thinks he's a nutter. And are saddened and puzzled that Americans vote for him.

He’s wasted no time in reversing Biden’s bill to lower extortionate prescription prices for life-saving drugs, such as insulin.. They’re fucking fools if they thought he was going to do anything for anyone but the rich.

www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna188555

That article says the $35 a month cap on insulin won’t be affected.

So being a multiple times convicted felon and sexual abuser who separated children from their parents, kept them in cages (many never to be reunited with their parents), along with the racist, disablist displays etc. didn’t make Trump unelectable? I can’t think of a scenario in which he would ever be a reasonable choice. It’s hard to imagine, if you just have any type of basic decency.

"nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people"

It's going to be a tragedy for a great many Americans.

Yes, it’s terrifying. Trump reversed it before it could even fully go into effect. They are truly turkeys voting for Christmas.

Yes I'm glad someone jumped on it. The Democrats made themselves unelectable. They gave it away. He just took it off them.

“So some people feel trapped between a rock and a hard place, so pick the person who they think will put food on the table and more money in their back pocket, however accurate that decision may be.”

They must be concerned today, I did not hear Trump address any of the issues in his inauguration speech that currently seem to worry most US citizens, such as housing, health care, food prices, education, and the minimum wage currently being 1/3 the living wage, nor did he address the climate crisis and the recent unprecedented big weather events that so many states have had to grapple with only just recently.

I think some people support Trump because they feel he gives them permission to say whatever the fuck they want, regardless if it is true or not, and whether it imperils other people or not. It won’t end well for any of us - is my opinion.

@Jingleballs2 You do know some of us campaign to stop women being separated from their babies in the UK?

In the US border babies and young children were separated from their mothers and all family members and put into group institutions. There was zero reason not to keep families together, except to punish people. It made the babies and children very vulnerable as they had no adults looking out for them. And there are documented cases where some of the children were sexually abused. If you think those babies and children do not matter, then just be honest.

Why do you not care about the thousands of children that have been trafficked into the US as a result of Biden’s open border policy. These children are unaccounted for and lost. Perhaps because the BBC and The Guardian don’t cover that?

This was horrifically cruel. Trump supporters usually respond to this by saying it never happened or the democrats made up tapes of crying children to make Trump look bad. Or some such nonsense....

Because he wants to end
1 illegal immigration
2 net zero nonsense
3 gender ideology

Same as Farage
