So does "far right" mean you're concerned about the impacts of mass immigration?

Cause I'm far right if so then!

Genuinely interested to hear what people consider as being "far right". I put it in quotation marks cause the term is so over-used incorrectly, it's actually lost all meaning.

There’s always been mass migration to these islands, so it’s just your inner prejudices. Many legal immigrants come here to work, or else they’d have to leave as per immigration law. The ones I assume you’re referring to are illegal migrants.

I don't think that this is fair: so it’s just your inner prejudices

Mass migration, usually after wars or famines, does cause upheaval and people should be able to discuss.

More often than not people who are on the move, in a legal or illegal manner, are suffering the consequences of whatever drove them to make the journey in the first place, from the journey itself, and from landing in a place that often does not want them.

The tragedy of it is overwhelming.

They are never settled in middle class/upper class areas though. As such, middle/upper class moral and ethical discussions around the issue are a little abstract in their nature.

They are always settled in poorer areas with existing challenges like poor infrastructure (schools, housing, medical, child care, transportation etc), housing, jobs etc. Therefore the ethical and moral discussion around the issue will not be abstract and it needs to be heard too.

We have plenty of variety of nationalities and religion where we live, it is harmonious and there is a lot of cultural exchange.

Without the money and the freedom that brings, I do wonder how it would be.

Blaming everything that's wrong with this country on immigrants is 'far right'.

Referring to immigrants as 'illegals' and 'invaders' is far right.

Bollocks

I'm not proving any of your points.

I'm pointing out that what you said is nonsense. As @Nordione1 says, Immigration is a widespread, mainstream concern of UK citizens. Your slightly right of JC = far right is a common trope amongst the actual far right and is a parroted at length on GB News.

It's not real.

Edited

You keep telling yourself that.
And when the next election goes the way the Brexit referendum did, then don’t come whinging.

I don't believe in open borders OP, no one does. It would be great if you rebooted as you're stuck in a loop.

Ok, so why don't you believe in open borders?

Tittat50 · 03/01/2025 19:24

@Nordione1 this subject and people feeling afraid to talk about it only feeds into the genuine far right agenda. I believe one can say certain values, cultural beliefs and religious views ( across all sectors) might not align with my own. This scandal is going to feed into the far right agenda and innocent people will get hurt.

Comedycook · 03/01/2025 19:21

Yes but unless you believe in totally open borders, you are one of the people who has concerns over immigration aren't you?

I'm not continually missing your point. You keep asking the same question: do you want open borders? No one wants open borders so why keep asking the question? No government has suggested open borders and we don't have open borders.

Reform want net zero immigration, so there are people who not only want that to happen but are deluded enough to vote for it.

If the government are giving out visas to people who aren't beneficial to the country then they need to better vet those they give visas to.

We let in a lot of foreign students, NHS workers and people who wok in hospitality. Foreign workers keep wages down, so it's a complex issue that needs to be tackled if you want to give out fewer work visas.

Is it acceptable to say I'd be concerned if I lived in an area where I witnessed an influx of young men who behaved in a way that was not in keeping with my views. Could I attribute that behaviour to the culture or religion and therefore be afraid or concerned based on that?

It's a genuine question because I feel this is how alot of people think. I am not saying this view is accurate at all but is there any truth and how does anyone know that? So that's one issue of concern for people I believe before we even get started on resources.

Are there hotels full of young men from countries outside the UK. Are their cultural views and values similar to mine? If they aren't, I might be scared of that. Again this is what I think is happening in the minds of some. Does this equal racism or xenophobia? It might.

How are we to know this and which news sources can we trust? We have to be able to talk about it.

I think the rape gang scandal which is about /has kicked off again is going to be very damaging to community relations unfortunately. Particularly as in Parliament the figure of 250,000 victims was stated, and the suggestion that that is the tip of the iceberg.

Gosh yes, that's my point which you are continually missing.

The two extreme views are

Absolutely no immigration at all.

Totally open borders

Virtually no one wants either of these two things to happen.

Vast vast majority of people think there should be a meet in the middle approach.

But my point was that unless you believe in totally open borders, you will have some concerns over numbers? And you will recognise that not all migration is entirely beneficial.

Therefore not everyone who has concerns can be far right can they?

I have lived and worked in other countries and I am very open to and interested in people from different cultures. But there is so much disinformation about the topic of mass migration. My top points would be:

  1. Many people from poorer countries would love to live in the UK, USA, Australia etc. Recent surveys suggest more than 30% of people in poor countries would like to move. That would mean 2 billion people would come to the UK if they could. This would have enormous negative impact on the environment, and countryside and culture.

  2. There have now been really good studies from the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden showing that while immigrants from rich countries are net contributors to the welfare state, immigrants from poor countries are net expenses. People from Africa and Asia on average cost us British about a million dollars over their life time. There is only so much of this we can afford.

  3. Statistics clearly show that English people are now a minority in London, and white English people are a minority of children in school, and white English people will be a minority in the UK by 2040. I think ethnic English people are a really interesting and unique people and culture and for them to be replaced in their own country is in someway a loss, just the same I think having most of the the Maori disappear from New Zealand or the Tutsis or Hutus disappear from Rwanda would also be a loss.

  4. Making enormous changes to the ethnic, cultural, religious makeup of a country should only be done with the citizens consultation and consent. We were never consulted and voters have always said they are not really in favour of mass migration.

I hope these points are not too crazy or radical. I really do like and respect people from all different countries and cultures. I am happy to hear other opinions on why mass migration would really be a good idea.

Useful post containing facts.

Nordione1 · 03/01/2025 19:04

It's currently the number 1 concern of people in this country. So unless we have all become facists by mistake without realising it, I think concern about excess migration is a very main stream view to have at the moment.

Nordione1 · 03/01/2025 19:02

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/01/2025 19:00

It's shorthand for the people who have learned that 'I'm not being racialist, but...' is well known as the way to herald an incoming racist statement and have rephrased it as 'I'm concerned about...'.

HTH.

That's a very old fashioned approach though. Bit of a 90s trope. Sadly I think we are well beyond that now.

Is there no medium? Is it not possible to welcome limited immigration without having a free for all?

I know there's no suggestion of that.

My point is that unless that's your stance, you must have some concerns over immigration? Otherwise you'd be happy for completely open borders wouldn't you?

Is there no medium? Is it not possible to welcome limited immigration without having a free for all?

Nordione1 · 03/01/2025 18:58

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 03/01/2025 18:39

It's relevant in so far as the rabid right wingers (as opposed to balanced right leaning people) are all screaming about all the black and brown people coming here, taking our jobs, stealing our women... yet never consider that migration is a two way street.

It's particularly laughable when they themselves are living in other countries, calling themselves expats, voting for brexit and complaining about all the brown people taking over the uk.

Not every right wing person is a racist nutter, not by a long shot, but all racist nutters spout extreme right wing views.

Edited

Not true. Many left wing people have problems with the colour of people's skin or religion. They just probably don't happen to be the ones you have in mind.

Comedycook · 03/01/2025 18:57

username299 · 03/01/2025 18:52

I know there's no suggestion of that.

Tittat50 · 03/01/2025 18:57

I can't use the word concerned because I don't trust the sources of information available anymore.

If I can access reliable believable data on immigration then I can form a viewpoint.

I think we don't always have enough information available to us and we see snapshots. How can I know what's going on in certain coastal towns where I imagine there's a stronger view unless I'm living there and experiencing it. Maybe they have a point. Maybe they aren't all racist. Maybe it's racism.

Do I think immigration is causing all our societal ills? No. Is it possible it could make things worse? Yes I could believe that. Do I have enough evidence? No.

If you’re ’genuinely curious’, and not just in service to the crypto-fascists by means of a little light obfuscation, ALL of the info. you need on what far-right means is available on Wikipedia.

Nice try though.
