So does "far right" mean you're concerned about the impacts of mass immigration?

Cause I'm far right if so then!

Genuinely interested to hear what people consider as being "far right". I put it in quotation marks cause the term is so over-used incorrectly, it's actually lost all meaning.

No. Far right just means that you're too blinded by the racist rhetoric surrounding immigration to be able to approach the subject rationally, and to understand the considerable net benefit that it contributes to our society.

Upstartled · 03/01/2025 19:59

Was it the more in common or the yougov poll the other day that reported that 70% of people in this country think that immigration is either too high or far too high? If the left paint everyone who is concerned about immigration as far right, or only a talking point of the right then they will completely shoot themselves in the foot.

Why are you posting reports from the Netherlands?

We're giving people visas who either study or work in the UK. Universities depend on foreign cash and we have many thousand NHS vacancies amongst others.

Should we stop filling vacancies and universities with foreign workers?

Don't allow dependants of students automatic residency.

The NHS worker argument is relevant but self-perpetuating. Those additional incoming workers will need looking after eventually.

excellent post - I think the problem is most people have no clue that before the middle of this century, white Brits will become a minority. We are sleepwalking into becoming like the Balkans, with all of the associated social and religious issues.

Agreed. You can already see issues such as Gaza affecting the election of MPs and their subsequent behaviour. The fact we now have someone standing up in the H of C requesting the return of blasphemy law and the PM saying he will give it consideration. No thanks. I don't fancy living in a country with any Islamic law affecting me, particularly being a woman.

In a newly released annual report, the Danish Ministry of Finance revealed that the net cost of immigration from non-Western countries, after tax contributions had been deduced, amounted to €4.2 billion ($4.8 billion) in the year 2018.

A team led by mathematician Jan H. van de Beek at the University of Amsterdam estimates that the Dutch government spent approximately €17 billion per year on migration in the period between 1995 and 2019, meaning that more than one billion euros went to migration-related issues every month.

The study digs deeper still: annual net costs of non-Western immigration amount to €17 billion and the annual net benefits of Western immigration total one billion euros. Distinguishing between Western and non-Western migration patterns, the study comes to a startling conclusion: if immigration remains at 2015-2019 levels, the annual budget burden will increase from €17 billion in 2016 to about €50 billion. This is an increase that the welfare state would most likely not survive.

Diversity is our greatest strength.

I was induced and kept in labour for six days because there were empty labour rooms and no midwives. Most had returned home after Brexit and Covid.

So my concern is that there are actually not enough immigrants.

Yup that’ll be the problem 😳

I have lived and worked in other countries and I am very open to and interested in people from different cultures. But there is so much disinformation about the topic of mass migration. My top points would be:

  1. Many people from poorer countries would love to live in the UK, USA, Australia etc. Recent surveys suggest more than 30% of people in poor countries would like to move. That would mean 2 billion people would come to the UK if they could. This would have enormous negative impact on the environment, and countryside and culture.

  2. There have now been really good studies from the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden showing that while immigrants from rich countries are net contributors to the welfare state, immigrants from poor countries are net expenses. People from Africa and Asia on average cost us British about a million dollars over their life time. There is only so much of this we can afford.

  3. Statistics clearly show that English people are now a minority in London, and white English people are a minority of children in school, and white English people will be a minority in the UK by 2040. I think ethnic English people are a really interesting and unique people and culture and for them to be replaced in their own country is in someway a loss, just the same I think having most of the the Maori disappear from New Zealand or the Tutsis or Hutus disappear from Rwanda would also be a loss.

  4. Making enormous changes to the ethnic, cultural, religious makeup of a country should only be done with the citizens consultation and consent. We were never consulted and voters have always said they are not really in favour of mass migration.

I hope these points are not too crazy or radical. I really do like and respect people from all different countries and cultures. I am happy to hear other opinions on why mass migration would really be a good idea.

No. It means they're a bigoted twat dressing up racism as concern.

Not ever heard a far righter campaigning for white Australians or white Americans or any other English speaking and white people to go back to where they came from.

Funny that concern comes with a colour chart.

@Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast Slightly off topic, but one of my friends is married to a white American, lived in the US for 20-plus years and then decided to move back to the UK. No problem for her and her teenagers with dual citizenship, but it was so difficult getting a visa for her husband. Reams of paperwork and they even had to produce photos showing them together over the decades. It wasn’t an easy process at all.

I’ve done the reverse, moved to the US with my American husband, but moving to the UK with a spouse sounds even harder.

There literally has not ALWAYS been mass immigration to these islands?! What utter nonsense

Absolutely correct. Migration on the scale we have now has never occurred before. We are importing people who we cannot integrate and assimilate as we need to in order to ensure that our society stays peaceful and cohesive.

BlueSilverCats · 03/01/2025 19:43

Ok, so why don't you believe in open borders?

Crime for one, and this includes anything from drug running, sex trafficking, human trafficking , kidnappings, terrorism etc.

Shit infrastructure that is unable to cope.

These are the two main ones for me as an immigrant.

No one believes in open borders because we wouldn't be able to control the population, we wouldn't have the infrastructure and we would sink under the weight of people.

Quite.

Virtually everyone would agree with this...ergo we all have concerns with immigration.

Because they may not be useful, whats the point in accepting anyone into your country unless your country better off? Why would you take for example 5 million people who will always need financial subsidies. You are burdening the rest of society rather than improving society.

Why on would you just take anyone. I thought we all agreed that open borders is not a good thing.

Asian covers a lot of different people. Educational outcomes and crime rates are also different.

Household income

In the 3 years to March 2021, black households were most likely out of all ethnic groups to have a weekly income of under £600.

@Nordione1 this subject and people feeling afraid to talk about it only feeds into the genuine far right agenda. I believe one can say certain values, cultural beliefs and religious views ( across all sectors) might not align with my own. This scandal is going to feed into the far right agenda and innocent people will get hurt.

Completely agree. It's very scary and I feel very sorry for anyone innocent affected of which there are many and probably will.be many more.

I also think this might lead to the downfall of Keir Starmer's government. If there's one thing people hate more than racism it's paedophiles and (obviously for the avoidance of doubt Im not accusing anyone in government of being one) anyone that is involved in not stopping the attacks or turned a blind eye or just did not do their job needs to be held to account. I saw a clip from the Times journalist that had been investigating the Rotherham rapes for four years and it's harrowing. I think it will or should stand head and shoulders above anything else until a proper investigation happens. It's a shame it's already being covered up. But it will affect the UK people's view of immigration without a doubt.

No nonsense. I have concerns about immigration, specifically numbers. For example even if labour hit the housebuilding target 1.5 million over next 4 years if immigration continues as it is, we won't even stand still on housing.

I don’t think wanting controlled immigration is extreme right wing. If someone wanted zero migration and also wanted to repatriate all the non whites then yeah I’d say they are a racist.

I’d be delighted to take any high skilled worker from any country in the world. I think if you get into a top ten university to study or are a brilliant scientist then we should be standing at the front door with a bunch of flowers begging you not to leave us. I consider myself to be extremely pro immigration, I think it can be wonderful and helpful to society as a whole to have extremely capable people make the UK their home.

I just don’t think taking absolutely anyone who wants to come is sensible. I think only very unserious people would suggest fully open borders.

Very few people believe in totally open borders. The great economist Milton Friedman said pick one: welfare state or open borders. But in practice we have open borders because we are not willing to deport people who come here illegally and also we operate large-scale rackets to bring in people who on average end up being net costs to the economy and do not contribute to the communities who have been forced to host them.

I say "on average" because that is what statistics show. The more multi-cultural a community is, the lower is the wellbeing and happiness of people living there and people from low-income countries in Africa, the middle east and Asia cost British taxpayers on average a million dollars over their lifetimes.

Of course there are wonderful people from all countries and cultures.

Not true. Many left wing people have problems with the colour of people's skin or religion. They just probably don't happen to be the ones you have in mind.

I can only speak to my personal experience on that.
