How can any Donald Trump fans think that he is intelligent?

Have you ever met a Trump supporter? They are absolute morons and want a president who is as stupid as they are.

Social media is full of a 'civil war' between conservative and 'techbro' Republicans right now. Trump is obviously out of his depth. The MAGA implosion will be fascinating to watch.

Does thinking you can buy Greenland and the Panama canal make you intelligent? Are bears Catholics, does the Pope sh•t in the woods? Would Canada like to become a US state?

Do they really think he's intelligent though? I don't think they do. The fact is he represents all they believe in - anti-woke, anti-immigration etc. That's all they care about.

Trump is rich (from inherited wealth) but unintelligent but an overconfident showman.

Vance is rich (self made) and highly intelligent but doesn't have the publicity profile or showmanship of Trump.

Because he’s rich- so he must be intelligent. Not unscrupulous, not vile, deceiving or manipulative but rich- rich is all the west aspire to.

Trump is definitely not the most intelligent however JD Vance is by far the smartest guy in the room.

People get tired of being told everything is going to shit all the time, regardless as to whether it’s true or not, and someone coming along saying “I’m listening to you, I have answers” will be given a whirl by people who feel they are not on the other politicians priority list. Most probably don’t fully believe him. I think there will
be people giving up on politics entirely if they feel this does work out for them either.

You're being ridiculously simplistic there. And actually, labelling people stupid because of their support for Trump is part of the reason the Democrats lost.

He's smart enough to tap into those voters who feel ignored and belittled, making them think he understands them and can relate to them. He obviously can't, but managed to get them to believe he did.

I don't think of him as intelligent per se, but I do think he has a certain animal cunning and charisma which unfortunately gets him far.

This is such a ridiculous statement to make. The idea that only educated people would ever vote blue is nonsensical.

I didn't say I find Trump relatable. I even said he wouldn't be my choice. I'm masters level educated in a professional role and I think he's ridiculous but I thought the Democratic campaign was an absolute nightmare based on little more than keeping the status quo and amping up identity politics.

That's what's unrelatable to the general population. People are worried how they'll continue to put food on the table and keep their jobs. They're worried about gas prices and 'woke nonsense' in the education system. They're worried about high levels of immigration and crime. Trump promised them a solution to that in layman's terms they could understand and the Democrats simply didn't.

Add in that many of the vocal Democratic supporters were very publicly linked to scandals like P Diddy or very famous wealthy millionaires and billionaires and you've got yourself a powder keg of 'they're not like us'. They didn't prioritise the giant swathes of the general public and ran on a campaign of keeping things as they are (which many Americans don't like).

I think you're running with an idea that isn't true. If you profile Republican voters, you won't hear them saying Donald Trump is intelligent or more intelligent than others. He's not even as intelligent as his VP. But Presidents are showmen - they're there to make speeches and rouse the masses and to be a figurehead.

He's a figurehead for grass roots, ordinary, God fearing folks. People who, if told they are making a daft or wrong choice, will double down and say "don't tell ME who I should vote for..." very clever campaigning technique, gets around educational differences between "the people" and the people who want to run things.

We in the UK voted Boris Johnson in, we voted Brexit. Both were "oh don't be daft" choices as touted by the media. People push back with "Don't tell me how to vote!"

@Workingclasslass any electorate who voted for person A who has been convicted of sexual offences vs person B who hasn't, is already on thin ice in the thinking department.

Couple that with the self interest of many Americans who believe (incorrectly) that Trump will facilitate more dollars in their pocket.

Lastly, and as others have said above, he taps into the populist view. Farage does that over here. There is no credible substance or plan to either of them, but because they spout rubbish in a manner that sounds credible (I concede that this is a skill, even though I can't believe how stupid people are to fall for it), people vote for them.

If you look at the state of America you'll see that people don't want politicians because they all deliver a variation of the same thing. They want a rabble rouser, someone to shake things up a bit which Trump will most certainly do.

People don't want intelligence, they want soundbites. They want 30 second messages on TikTok and for people to say what they want to hear.

Trump has said "Drugs are bad". Who could disagree with that? He hasn't got a plan for how he'll deal with America's catastrophic drug problem or national health care but people can nod along to "Drugs are bad." It evidently works.
