Elon Musk to give $100m to Reform

The Sunday Times reported that Elon Musk is considering giving $100M to Nigel Farage as a political donation.

Is this even legal? The Trump team got huffy because a bunch of Labour party members went over to volunteer for Harris. This would be a whole other level of outside interference.

I’m not at all pleased with the Labour government, but this seems wrong as a matter of principle.

In four and a half years, I am not sure they'll be anyone left on Twitter in the UK who isn't already a potential Reform voter.

I doubt it. At the GE the Tories were at a historic low point not seen in generations. Labour were hardly convincing either, and yet all Reform managed to achieve was 5 seats. This will represent their high point.

The support just isn’t there. If it wasn’t at this election, it certainly won’t be by the time the TP are able to regroup. I know many quite RW indeed Tories, and none of those would lend their support to Farage the slimy opportunistic grifter- they see him for who his is.

His money, his choice. All political parties are corrupt as hell and get their millions donated under the counter/off the books. It's going to worry the main parties though and the lefties. So many people disenchanted with both Labour and Tories, and the only barrier to Reform doing better is insufficient funding. Let's have a level playing field and see how it plays out.

This story was on the radio this morning and they had Nigel Farage in and he said he's heard this rumour but Musk has ever mentioned to him anything about giving him or Reform UK money. He did say Musk liked his policies though and they are both friends of Donald Trump.

Do you really see Reform fading out within four years? the Conservatives keep extending their ongoing leadership car-crash, western politics isn't showing much of a slowdown in the rise of alternative right-wing parties. I'm not convinced that the west has yet hit the bottom of the barrel. It's cheaper/easier for the tabloid media to shout inaccurate/incomplete stories to stir up emotions than it is for them to explain that things are complicated, and not every story is a binary Right vs. Wrong.

The real worry is that a cash donation of $100m is relatively insignificant, compared to putting a thumb on the scales of the Twitter algorithm. Which it's clear Space Karen is already doing in favour of his preferred right wing parties and candidates.

Reform is a political party registered with the electoral commission. The fact that it is internally constituted as a limited company is irrelevant.

There are restrictions on amounts of money that can be donated and also who can donate. I would hope this would mean it’s just not possible.
