Women of MN - What do you like about Trump?

He couldn’t have been voted in without the support of women. As a non-Trump fan myself, I’m wondering what is it you like about him? This applies to non-US voters who favour him and would vote for him if possible.

Hes funny.

hattie43 · 06/11/2024 16:59

I like he puts his country and its citizens first , we here are supposed to be embarrassed and ashamed of being British .

Lentilweaver · 06/11/2024 16:57

Oh wow. Eyeopener. Both as a second gen immigrant and a staunch pro choicer.

I’m also interested in this.

Is it to save children from school shooters, whose right to bear arms is so robustly defended by the Republicans in the first place?

I suspect it's more to do with that phrase about keeping women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.

Superworm24 · 06/11/2024 16:48

Well I'm British and not American so what I think doesn't really matter.

But if I had to pick something I would say that I admire how open he is. I mean you never really know what's going to come out of his mouth and he really doesn't care who he offends. I believe that most people and politicians have quite a few unpopular opinions but they would never dare to voice them. They just hide it and tell people what they want to hear. So most of us don't trust a single word they say. Trump is different.

If you think he's not telling people what they want to hear and boldly shooting from the lip, you need to do a little research on his core message and the core audience that he has carefully cultivated for years.

This is the man who proclaimed his love for the poorly educated.

I héard him say that women who have an abortion should be punished. That doesn't sounf pro abortion to me.

Did you? I haven't found anything like that so if you have a link I would be very interested.

batt3nb3rg · 06/11/2024 14:25

No, I’m obviously not okay with that, but I don’t see that that is an inevitable consequence of abortion not being available, as care for a naturally occurring miscarriage, or spontaneous abortion, is not the same as a medically induced abortion. Unfortunately there are no circumstances in which I can be okay with a baby being killed even where the mother’s life is in danger. If a woman will die or be seriously harmed if she remains pregnant, labour should be induced, the baby delivered, and given every chance to survive if past viability. If the baby was killed first, it would still need to be delivered, whether vaginally or by c-section.

As to your other points - I did already say I disagree with Trump. The post asked for what women like about him, so I listed everything that I see as a positive and then concluded I wouldn’t vote for him because his headlining economic policy is lunacy.

You are wrong in your blithe assumptions about the legality of various aspects of care for a naturally occurring miscarriage.

Look into the case of a dentist who died of sepsis in Galway University Hospital in Ireland because the law at that time banned abortion. Doctors' hands were tied by the law, and they will be tied in the US states where voters have voted for bans.

I suggest you do a lot more research on the issues that can come up when pregnancy runs into serious medical danger naturally and before viability. Miscarriages are not always clear-cut events. Miscarriages can involve the death of one twin and jeopardy of the life of another. Miscarriages can be long drawn out with the risk of sepsis, as seen in the Galway case. It is not a simple "labour can be induced" issue.

And fwiw, Trump is not against abortion. His policy is that it should be decided by the states individually.

laveritable · 06/11/2024 16:51

I like that he is anti-abortion

He called for the death penalty for THE CENTRAL PARK 5 innocent Black/Latino boys, who where later exonerated after years in prison! Till this day trump has refused to apologise!

Anti abortion? Don’t make me laugh. The only way that twat is anti abortion in as yet another way to control women. He couldn’t give a shiny shit about killing babies and anyone who thinks that’s even crossed his mind for one second is an idiot. I’m sure if one of his many mistresses had needed a convenient abortion he’d not have thought twice about the “precious life” 🙄.

It is clearly not hypocritical. It’s like saying, can no one see the hypocrisy between refusing to smack a baby for crying for their nappy to be changed, but still putting a 5 year old on the naughty step. The death penalty is a consequence for anti-social behaviour that harms others. Abortion is the ending of a blameless, pre-born life at the behest of someone else. If you commit a crime punishable by death, you are yourself consenting to being executed.

I don’t know how I feel about the death penalty for shoplifting, but I think for things like murder, rape, child abuse, carjacking, burglary, it is something I am in support of. Deeply anti-social criminality will only be stamped out of the consequences are harsh and the perpetrators are never released to reoffend.

You don’t know how you feel about the death penalty for shoplifting?

How would home schooling as a rule rather than exception work when in the majority of families parents go to work - earn money, have a career etc

Stunned. A cluster of cells matters more than a woman's life. @batt3nb3rg

These attitudes are so deeply disturbing.

I am saddened by women feeling this way.

I am relieved I live in Europe with my daughters.

I think what posters like that reminds us, is that more people than we like to admit are actually not very bright. Throw in poor education, extreme politics and views given oxygen on social media, financial pressures, and just a generally unstable world and there you have it - enough people believing and perpetuating and voting for this shit. It's utterly depressing.

Except that isn't how the death penalty works, is it?

If it had any effect at all on criminality, the US would be a veritable paradise where nobody would ever be shot, raped, or robbed.

For me, you can't be pro life and also support the death penalty, and you can't support the untrammeled right to own and bear arms.

All the death penalty achieves is the brutalism of the public mind and the cheapening of human life. It goes completely against the human dignity basis of the pro life philosophy.

This is aside altogether from the massive issues around access to legal representation and institutional bias that is based on historical attitudes to race.

I like that he is anti-abortion, anti-immigration and anti-transgender. In theory I like his pro-small government claims but in practice I don’t think he followed through during his premiership. I like his proposed reduction in funding for the Department of Education as I am in support of homeschooling as a rule rather than an exception.

I disagree with his stance on healthcare entirely and think that his financial policies are demented. If I were American, I would not have voted for him due to these reasons and because of his sustained immorality, but I almost certainly wouldn’t have voted for Harris either, as prominently campaigning on the platform of “protecting your daughter's right to end the life of your grandchildren in the womb” is not something I can stomach morally. Though I think it’s more likely I would have impulsively voted for her at the booth despite my intentions than Trump.

How would home schooling as a rule rather than exception work when in the majority of families parents go to work - earn money, have a career etc

eurochick · 06/11/2024 16:27

This is what the abortion ban means in practice. A grieving husband and a motherless child.

mathanxiety · 06/11/2024 16:26

If you break down the results, it looks as if it was the support of younger (and possibly younger white) men that swung it in the key states.

I am in the US and personally would never have voted for him, even if I were a citizen, but I am GC and hope he restores the word sex and tosses out the word gender in Title IX.

Absolutely nothing. He has no redeeming qualities either political or personal.
If I was american I would be applying for asylum in the UK as it is increasingly unsafe for anybody who hasn’t drunk the trump koolaid.
God help those who tried to hold him to account for his crimes.

PenGold · 06/11/2024 16:19

BIossomtoes · 06/11/2024 16:00

Bloody hell. Suddenly today’s result makes sense.

Shocking hey? I read those posts with my jaw on the floor.

LettuceSpray · 06/11/2024 16:17

@batt3nb3rg could you quote where Trump says he is anti abortion? I don't think he has explicitly said anything one way or the other. Melania, however, has explicitly said she supports a woman's right to choose. It seems an odd issue for you to mention as a reason to support Trump.

SnakesAndArrows · 06/11/2024 16:17

Madcats · 06/11/2024 10:33

I am in the UK, but pay a moderate amount of attention to events in the US/election.

The Harris campaign just appeared to be soundbites; maybe I missed the interviews where she talked about strategy?

It clearly isn't/wasn't Biden running the show for the past year or so, but it didn't appear to be Kamala either.

My memories of her early years in office was that the press trashed her and that she was increasingly sidelined.

The newspack tried to make the campaign all about abortion. I don't think that was top of most peoples' agenda. Women=adult human female on the other hand....

None of that explains a vote for Trump though. Abstention, spoiling your ballot or voting for the Greens, maybe.

I'm puzzled by this. I've never heard him say he is anti abortion and in fact recently when someone tried to get him to explicitly say this he wouldn't be drawn.

I héard him say that women who have an abortion should be punished. That doesn't sounf pro abortion to me.

CitrineRaindropPhoenix · 06/11/2024 16:09

I'd understood that he was quite a fan of abortion himself, much like Boris Johnson. He just knows what plays well with his voters.

Yeah, he wants it to be available to anyone he has accidentally impregnated but couldn’t care less about the little people.

I suspect he doesn’t even understand that his SC judges’ actions have also made it dangerous for women to have a miscarriage, and for medics to help them.
