It looks like Trump will be the next President, and Lammy has been strongly critical of him. Will he be put into another post, I wonder. But then, if he IS shifted, the optics aren't good on it. I'm just posting to see if anyone else is thinking this.

I do think Trump likes the British Royal family as an institution and coming over to enjoy the pomp and ceremony. Those dealing with this require tact that Lammy lacks.

I suspect he will want another state visit with Charles and will use Harry in his negotiation.

It matters to the UK a lot. If Trump implements his projected trade policy that the chances are our economy is not going to grow to current projections. We are going to need the very best relationship with the US and I don’t think Lammy is the man for that.

I don't think it really matters who is foreign secretary. Trump makes decisions based on what he thinks is best for him. I don't think the UK figures much in his thinking.

Absolutely, Lammy’s colour has nothing at all to do with this, he described Trump as a neo nazi, Trump isn’t the most forgiving person, as doubtless many in the US will find, so Lammy may not be the best placed, but we may be surprised

Trump does whats good for Trump, he doesn't give a shiny shit about Lammy, Badenoch or anyone else.

The UK has little influence in the world & so far Lammy has done a good job.

Lammy met with the Trump campaign when he was over in the US and the press reports were that they were pleased because they felt he was really listening to them in a way David Cameron didn't when he was Foreign Secretary.

Who knows what will actually happen but I don't think it's an immediate cause for concern.

Hard to say. I think this will be a real turning point, not only for the UK but also for the rest of Europe. Are we going to continue to align ourselves with the US no matter what, or are we going to try to chart a different course. There are massive risks either way...

Lammy was a poor pick for FS from the outset. Too strident and not enough diplomacy. His comments are tactless. Nothing to do with the brief, it’s him.

However, he is well connected. That moment when Starmer attended the d day celebrations and Sunak went home? Lammy got him the invite. So he’s hanging on for a while.

Ha! I did think this too. I suppose it depends on how much of an influence on a Trump administration the Labour govt hopes to have. They won't have much, whoever is in the job, but they'll have zero with Lammy in it. Trump doesn't take over until the 20-something of January, so they have time to ponder on it.
