I suppose a good question to ask really is, which party does most for women and people of colour across the nation in terms of employment law, equality law, and in terms of childcare, opportunity, the environment and health? Also, looking at voting records of parties and MPs - who votes in favour of women's rights and freedoms?

MPs and PMs are the minority of our country. Their actions affect millions of people in all aspects of their daily life.

What Dawn Butler retweeted is not acceptable to me or representative of the way all/many Labour voters think.

I did originally include in my post that this didn't apply to all Labour supporters or indeed all Labour MPs but deleted it for being too long. I will retract that deletion. I fully admit that the Labour movement overall aren't bad people. But Keir Starmer is the current leader of it and all his actions (rather than words) since becoming PM have shown that he has some sort of chip missing. He's making cruel decisions and is favouring one group to the significant detriment of another. He obviously despises certain groups (farmers, pensioners, the middle classes, business owners, young workers, the white working class for example) and has chosen people in his cabinet that share his social world view. This is not a party that rules for the whole country. It is not good for the country.

However as the Tory’s voted for a man who wrote and said many deeply racist comments, to be their leader, and then the country voted for him to be PM, I doubt most people will think Dawns comment is punishable.

Keir didn't care all that much when Angela Rayner called the conservatives racist, homophobic, misogynistic scum so i'm not surprised.

366,000 people are members of the Labour party.
Nearly 10 million people voted Labour at the last election.
There are lots of very good people amongst those groups and many Labour MPs devote their whole careers to working for their communities.

Angela Rayner has to have panic buttons in her family home (she's had death and rape threats) because of the kind of hatred directed towards politicians. This kind of division from either side is harmful to our democracy and gets us nowhere.

There's still some trade unions that would not back a female Labour leader. It's not an official refusal, it's not written down, the membership just wouldn't vote for one. Misogyny is rife in certain unions.

As you're aware, the Labour government has more women in the cabinet than any other government, has more female MPs and more people from ethnic minorities than the Tories. Rachel Reeves is the first female chancellor in 800 years.

Well obviously I agree. But I'm not left wing and into performative politics. The left generally see someone's skin colour or sex before they see the character. We all know this.
