Dawn Butler racism just fine according to Labour

Well, didn’t take long for labour ministers to show their real beliefs did it. According to Dawn Butler, Kemi Badenoch is “a white supremacist in blackface” (with apologies to all for re-typing her massively offensive words). According to the lovely KS this is all just fine, nothing to see here, move along.

One rule for labour, one rule for everybody else. Again. Last time it was failure to declare gifts. This time it is blatant racism. How hideous this government is and what rank hypocrites.

Dawn Butler must have the whip withdrawn otherwise I don’t want to hear one more word from this racist government.

Because according to some, the Tories are the most progressive party because of their leadership. The Tories therefore will have had progressive policies. They were in power for 14 years, and I didn't see any evidence them. However,I'm sure you have a list, given their progressive credentials.

I think people are just holding Labour up to Labour's own self-professed standards of being non-racsist and hugely progressive, and pointing out they talk the talk (a lot) but don't walk the walk. The leadership is an easy example

A list of policies won't help you assess things as it will be far too long. Also my view of a progressive policy will be different from yours. For example RR has put employers NI up. This will penalise workers that might work part time for childcare reasons and who might be the ones more easily let go or their hours reduced. I wonder who that will affect more...

TwigletsAndRadishes · 04/11/2024 11:15

She's an absolutely appalling woman. But Labour have a problem. Since KS has been in charge he's already had to remove the whip from/suspend Diane Abbott, Apsana Begum, Rupa Huq and Zarah Sultana. Can anyone see an awkward pattern there?

I mean it's bad enough for Labour that the Tories, this allegedly increasingly 'far right' and 'racist' party according to many, have already had an Indian heritage Prime Minister and former Chancellor, 2 female Indian heritage Home Secretaries, 3 female prime ministers, a female of Nigerian heritage now leading the party and likely to be the next PM, plus a Chancellor of Pakistani heritage and one of Ghanaian heritage, plus James Cleverly and Nadim Zahawi.

Dawn Butler absolutely should be on that list of suspended MPs. It's not her first offence yet she's been let off the hook. Plenty of black and ethnic minority people in Labour (as well as several Guardian journalists and left wing bloggers) have used unforgiveable language about Kemi, as they previously did for Suella and Priti in particular, Kwasi K and others, in relation to their ethnicity apparently being out of line with their politics.

But frankly if KS suspended every ethnic minority MP who indulged in 'black and brown intra-communal language or forms of critique, satire or compliment (e.g. coconut, Uncle Tom, Aunt Kemi, house negro, choc ice etc.)' or said something anti-semitic, he'd risk having no ethnic minority MPs left.

Again - "horrific, racist, offensive" sounds frantic.

You are using the word “frantic” to diminish and reduce the OP’s comment that what Dawn Butler tweeted was horrific, racist and offensive.

Id agree that saying KM is “a white supremacist in blackface” is all of those things. You obviously disagree!

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 04/11/2024 11:11

Some have sought to deflect, in a vain attempt to avoid open criticism of the tweet.

I have openly criticised the tweet. RTFT.

The point of 100% APR/BPR is to stop part of a farm having to be sold each generation to pay death duty. 85% of family farms will fall into the IHT trap. I assume you don't own and run a farm yourself being so relaxed about it.

Cold.

Food security is a massive issue that we ignore at our peril. Have a look at how few big players control our farming and food resources.

Do you not think her retweet was horrific, racist and offensive then @Queensguide? Fair enough, you do you.

Oh dear oh dear. If you've read my comments you know I do not condone her comments. I have been only constructive in my posts here.

Your passion is making you argue with someone who agrees with you.

Sarahconnor1 · 04/11/2024 09:15

It was pretty appalling, whatever your views on Kemis politics.

But, Dawn Butler has form for posting nonsense on twitter which she later deletes.

And that is totally the point. Racism isn’t just for people we agree with. I certainly don’t like Diane Abbots politics for example but respect she has the right like anyone else to have them (not anything racist or anti on her part though!) and will defend her no matter how much I dislike her from racism comments.

KindQuail · 04/11/2024 11:08

Oh, so we should we be saying the Labour party are racist against Hindus and are anti-semites because of Jeremy Corbyns past comments?

You can evidently say whatever you like. But with a blatantly racist, very popular leader like Boris Johnson at your helm, don't pretend the Tories don't have a problem with race.

Wasn't Jenrick saying that colonised countries should be grateful to the UK in a discussion about the slave trade?

CroftonWillow · 04/11/2024 11:11

It's just another example of the blindspot of many on the left. It's more than just rejecting others' beliefs - They simply can't comprehend how certain people have the beliefs they do.

I’m not quite sure why posters need to provide a list of all progressive conservative policies over the pat 14 years in order to be able to call out Dawn’s awful bigoted tweet?

Has anyone on here condoned her tweet?

Doubt it if your MP happens to be a Labour one. Keir's in charge of them and he hasn't sacked Dawn yet.

Defeatist attitude. All constructive action contributes.

Many Labour MPs have condemned Dawn's tweet....so you might get a better response than you hope.

Deflection and gaslighting. The op doesn’t sound “frantic” at all - just opening a discussion into whether this comment is a sackable offence or not.

Id think most people would agree it is and she should be sacked. Rightly people expect our PM to deal with the matter accordingly.

I won’t hold my breath though.

Read my previous posts. I'm not deflecting or gaslighting, I've engaged postively, openly and constructively in debate here. Suggesting someone takes positive, constructive action isn't deflecting - it's enabling.

Again - "horrific, racist, offensive" sounds frantic.

Nordione1 · 04/11/2024 11:03

Why do you need the list of Tory progressive policies? Labour are in power now. It's clearly harder than they thought, as they are being held to account for some very questionable activities now. And their words matter more. Every day there's a new disaster!

No problem at all with you bringing it up on MN....but it will have no impact.
If you take it to your MP you might be part of the solution.

Doubt it if your MP happens to be a Labour one. Keir's in charge of them and he hasn't sacked Dawn yet.

porridgecake · 04/11/2024 11:05

Dawn Butler really isn't the sharpest tool in the box. She went on live TV and said babies are born without a sex. I have no idea if she is a good MP or not, to be fair.

Dollybantree · 04/11/2024 11:03

Queensguide · 04/11/2024 10:57

Have you written to your MP or taken any action other than raging on here about the comment? You sound frantic about it and some positive action might be more helpful than repeating yourself on MN.

If this thread is only about Butler, why are you talking about the Labour party being racist? Why are you talking about Labour leaders?

If you're going to talk about racism in political parties, expect to be challenged if you're a Tory. Am still waiting for your list of progressive Tory policies btw.
