Dawn Butler racism just fine according to Labour

Well, didn’t take long for labour ministers to show their real beliefs did it. According to Dawn Butler, Kemi Badenoch is “a white supremacist in blackface” (with apologies to all for re-typing her massively offensive words). According to the lovely KS this is all just fine, nothing to see here, move along.

One rule for labour, one rule for everybody else. Again. Last time it was failure to declare gifts. This time it is blatant racism. How hideous this government is and what rank hypocrites.

Dawn Butler must have the whip withdrawn otherwise I don’t want to hear one more word from this racist government.

Some passages taken from the Spectator article on Dawn Butler. I've paraphrased a bit for brevity:

First is the apparent view that a surprising number of people on the ‘progressive’ side of politics hold, which is that a person’s politics should not be decided by their intellect but by characteristics over which they have no say. These ‘progressives’ take it as axiomatic that anyone who is not white must always vote for the political left, as should anyone from a sexual minority.

This is an unfortunate misunderstanding of the left, but it is not evidence of malice per se. Butler on the other hand now exhibits something different. Because for her, describing someone as white or as trying to be white is clearly a great insult. Butler does not seem to believe that skin colour should not matter. She apparently believes it should matter a great deal – and that her skin colour makes her superior. We have her own words to go on.

Last month Butler posted a video online that was a sort of vainglorious rap. If you too don’t believe what I am about to relate, you will just have to go online and watch it for yourself.

At the beginning of the number, Butler chants: ‘You wanted to see me broken?/ Head bowed and tears in my eyes?/ More fool you, you didn’t realise/ That my strength is powered by your lies.’ Quite who the ‘You’ is in this is not made clear but you can make the reasonable assumption that they are white. She goes on: ‘You are the wrong one./ The violent one./ The weird one./ Whereas I, I am the chosen one./ Because I am of the first ones.’
‘You see this skin I’m in?/ This beautiful mahogany brown?/ The skin you don’t like, I believe./ So why you try so hard to achieve/ By burning yourself in the sun? /For me there’s no need / Because I am the chosen one./ For I am of the first ones.’
To conclude Butler says: ‘You, my friend, don’t matter.’ Then there’s yet more stuff about being the chosen one and the first one, before she reaches the searing insight: ‘You created a structure/ That made you seem great./ When the simple reality is/ It is all fake.’
‘Weird.’

Enough. It is time to come to some conclusions about Butler’s work. If a white MP made a video describing themselves as the chosen one because they have ‘white skin’ then I think it would be fair to say that their career would be over pretty sharpish. The grandiosity would be laughed at, but the white supremacy would be the death knell.

Yet what Butler has been displaying for some time, like a number of others on the Labour left, is the exact black counterpart to that. Butler does not appear to think she is the equal to her fellow countrymen. She seemingly believes she is superior to them if they are not of her skin colour.
There is a term for that.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 14/11/2024 08:36

No, perhaps you didn’t follow the story properly @friendshipover24 .

Butler didn’t call Badenoch black or white, Butler called her a “white supremacist in blackface”.

Please stop defending her rank racism.

Just because skin colour was mentioned doesn’t make the statement racist. Do people on this thread know the meaning of the word? Just because someone says “black” or “white” with regards to a person’s skin colour doesn’t make something racist. 🙄

Thanks for the link @TwigletsAndRadishes - it is behind a paywall I’m afraid, but I am pleased to see the Spectator isn’t letting it drop even if KS is. I can see the first couple of paragraphs though… “As exhibit A I would present the Labour MP Dawn Butler…” - she’s chock full of prejudice.

I'll see if I can take some quotes from it later when i get a chance.

Hopefully you can read that and it's not behind a paywall?

Definition of racism.

"characterized by or showing prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group"

I think Dawn has easily ticked all those boxes.

Nordione1 · 06/11/2024 10:31

I mean, it's not rocket science.

Dawn has decided what people of a particular skin colour should think.

Dawn thinks all people with that particular skin colour should think that way.

Kemi has that particular skin colour. Kemi does not think the way Dawn has decided people of her colour should think.

Dawn is angry. Dawn makes an idiot of herself on Twitter.

Nordione1 · 06/11/2024 10:22

Noisylass · 06/11/2024 10:17

Nope he’s right so on that basis dawn is right against kemi who would have told him don’t worry lad there is no racism

The problem being that Dawn still can't see past the fact that Kemi is black then. So completely against what MLK thought.

Noisylass · 06/11/2024 10:17

Nordione1 · 06/11/2024 10:12

Have you really given up on MLK and the content of your character being the most important thing?

Because she's a black woman saying that to another black woman that's OK. That's the difference here that deliberately is being ignored

Noisylass · 06/11/2024 10:09

Kemi more likely to have a few on that side that would think she's an acceptable black woman though . So there is that

Is racism acceptable when it is applied to a member of your own race, in your opinion? It's a yes or no.

Noisylass · 06/11/2024 10:09

ohdelay · 06/11/2024 10:06

You realise how ridiculous you're being? There are no free passes based on skin colour, racist behaviour is still racist. Do white klan members get a pass for calling other white people race traitors when they don't behave the way they'd like. Using your logic they would.

Interesting that you used the word "difference". Nobody expects all white / men / religious / whatever to believe the same, as a mono-block. What gives one black woman the right to tell another black woman what she "should" believe.

There's another thread running at the moment about the American election and Left-wing politics generally. The consensus is that throwing insults is not a good look and doesn't convert / persuade anyone to your 'side'. We need debate, not sneering.

I am not saying they have to think the same but showing evidence to show that kemi is using white nationalistic lang i don't have a problem with i agree with dawn. The very point is Guido harris Boris advisor stated that she as in kemi could say stuff white men can't wonder what it is that they want to say

The phrase was “a white supremacist in blackface”. 40% of the words in that phrase mention skin colour. How is that not racist?

The comment was very inappropriate and insulting but struggling to see how it is racist. Getting the feeling that it is only people who aren’t affected by racism who are claiming that the comment is racist. It is not racist. Insulting and very disrespectful yes. But not racist.

Off we go again round the houses… Jenrick said, Boris said ad Infinitum. Not got
much to say about Dawn or her racism
still have you @username7891. How about you @LizzieSiddal - care to comment on the actual thread topic rather than obvious and tedious distraction techniques.

Do you both condemn DB’s racism towards
KB or not? That’s what this thread is about. How many more times FGS!

I was responding to a post, it’s called a conversation.

Try it sometime.

Again, people are responding to what you post. You said Labour are the nasty party and someone responded to that.

I've noticed that people here have been talking about unions and taxes on farmers which has nothing to do with the thread but you've said nothing. It comes across as two tier.

If you don't want anyone to talk about anything but the retweet, then post on nothing else.

You think calling the leader of the opposition a white supremacist in blackface is a three?

username7891 · 05/11/2024 21:30

LizzieSiddal · 05/11/2024 21:27

I was just thinking about Robert Jenerik tonight, you know the Justice Minister who demanded a Micky mouse murial, at a migrant centre for children was painted over because it was too “welcoming”
For nastiness the Tory’s are on 100 and Labour on about 3, so they have lots of catching up to do in that department.

You'll be told you're derailing the thread. Anyone who criticises the Tories is 'derailing' the thread. And besides, that happened more than five minutes ago, so it doesn't count.
