North Korea has sent about 10,000 troops to Russia to train and fight in the Ukraine war within “the next several weeks,” the Pentagon has said, in a move that western leaders say will intensify the almost three-year war and jolt relations in the region.

Some of the North Korean soldiers have already moved closer to Ukraine, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said on Monday, and were believed to be heading for the Kursk border region, where Russia has been struggling to push back a Ukrainian incursion.

Earlier on Monday, Nato secretary-general Mark Rutte confirmed recent Ukrainian intelligence reports that some North Korean military units were already in the Kursk region.

The South Korean president, Yoon Suk-yeol, said the developments posed a global security threat.

“This illegal military cooperation between Russia and North Korea is a significant security threat to the international community and could pose a serious risk to our national security,” he said.

This is really bad news.

This agreement probably stems from around last autumn when Macron was announcing 10,000 French troops would be sent to Ukraine.

You are kidding right, we have funded this war even before Russia crossed it's borders.

Can you distinguish this invasion and Israels invasion of Gaza and Lebanon...we support one invasion but against the other....I can tell you Israel have killed more civilians than Russia have.

The Ukraine should have been settled by the west and the disputed territories should have been handed to Russia to avert war.

Russia is on the verge of collapse which will cause major problems for countries in Europe as it will bring huge instability and the threat of more regional wars. Ukraine has had it's internal wars for decades but no one talks about it. Simon Reeves investigation pointed this out many years ago...

I don't support the Ukraine although I pitty the poor souls caught up in it. Is Russia right absolutely not but I struggle to find any reason why it wouldn't it invade...

I think many of you need to wake up to the reality and Russia will always protect it's strategic interests

Russia has absolutely no right over any of the territories of Ukraine it has tried to take over. It has breached international laws. Bringing in Gaza is whataboutery.

@dubsie

"..I can tell you Israel have killed more civilians than Russia have."

That's impossible to state given the Hamas Health Ministry figures do not distinguish between Hamas and civilian deaths - they just give one figure.

It’s a training exercise for the north koreans isn’t it. Feel sorry for them, doubt many are volunteers.

Yeah, North Korean forces on European continent really weren't on my 2024 bingo card.

Kim is literally selling his people out and the West still concerned to not help Ukraine too much

With the situation in Georgia too, I do think that the West is being complacent. Add the potential for Trump to be re-elected and it will increase the instability.

I do wonder though how many will defect and seek asylum, especially if they have no family in NK.
