I was ready for change, but fucking hell.

I agree with Freedom of Speech for regular people, but politicians (as opposed to activists) should be expected to show a modicum of common sense and future thinking and not emote everywhere for attention and likes when it can affect their jobs.
I'm disappointed in the lack of professionalism. I remember Labour in the Blair days being full of professionals and strategists, this lot seem to have been dragged from a JCR and asked to make decisions and talk to grown ups.

Actually I think it is quite an interesting question regarding David Lammy’s 2017 tweet vs now.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk pretend they are the defenders of freedom of speech. We certainly know they are very happy to troll and trash talk themselves. If they are defenders of freedom of speech, they won’t care one bit! If they are not, then I might worry a bit more.

Freedom of speech and independence of the judiciary are fundamental principles of democracy. Let’s see what happens.

I’m sure you could find more of Labour politicians being honest. It’s one of the reasons people wanted them in power rather than the lying Tories.

Edit: I’m ignoring the second ‘examples’ in your reply as they aren’t really relevant, what with not being on Lammy’s twitter.

It’s called diplomacy. It’s perfectly possible to consider Trump a dangerous racist (and misogynist as it happens) but also recognise the role he is now in. The second tweet congratulates him on the win and then says positive things about America - as is convention (and necessity) for a politician who has to work with American interests. What it doesn’t do is say that Trump isn’t racist, or is a nice person.

OK well I am neither camp Labour nor camp Torie. But one thing I have learnt from Starmer, is that he is perfectly capable and master at playing both sides. He will just sleaze up to Trump and it will be fine. How he deals with his spat with Musk is another matter. However, note that Philipson has been happily using Twitter to spew hate against private schools so clearly they are going to slime up to Musk too.

There was also a direct tiff with Elon Musk who seems to be quite powerful and directly endorsed by Trump. Anyone else wondering what if any future roles Musk might have in the future?

So, as predicted looking kind of dumb. Anyone think "LabourforKamala" have learnt their lesson on picking favourites in another country's election or are they more likely chirpily preparing for their 2028 campaign.

I also wondered if Labour just do this for the US or do they lend their know how and virtue to political campaigns all round the world. Did they travel for the French election as well?

Voting for local reasons or based on the candidate rather than a national party is a sensible approach.

That way you have a greater electoral impact on local issues or local MP that has the most political impact on your day to day life.

Also if the new Government doesn't turn out as hoped for then at least you still have a good local MP focusing on local issues.
