I suppose this would worry me, in the sense that I would be worried if an arsonist suddenly started warning us that there would be a terrible fire.

I despise Trump, but he very much is against US intervention abroad and is one of the least likely people to drag America (and the rest of the West) into an all out war. His comments around this are largely criticism of the current President.

Am I the only one who feels the UK is vulnerable due to supplying weapons to both Ukraine & Israel?

We aren't doing it to be nice or to just be doing a favour for them, its in our interest to support the people we do. Security at home is affected by a delicate balance of circumstances abroad.

I think Trump is delusional about most things but he's not wrong about this. Biden's just declared support for the Israeli government.

@baroqueandblue

Lots of countries supply arms to warring countries and factions. It's not something I could condone even for a moment, but it generally doesn't result in military reprisals against those supplying. Terrorist attacks sometimes, but, relatively speaking, even those are rare.

Trump is implying that the Democrats have contributed to the current state of play between both Russia and Ukraine, and between Israel and the Middle East countries they're attacking. He's hoping that voters will be swayed to vote for him in the hope that he can avert a third World War if he becomes President again. It's just scaremongering. His crystal ball is no better than anyone else's, and his grasp of history is very questionable, just like his passing acquaintance with The Truth 🤷‍♂️

This is true, and there are usually supply chains for components among countries.

Trump is playing politics here, OP. He wants US voters to believe that the world is toast because of Democrat policy, and only he can save them. This is nonsense, of course. Can you imagine throwing Donald Trump into the Middle East mix right now? That esteemed diplomat? No.

Copenhagener · 02/10/2024 02:50

Were you this concerned about the 2006 war between Lebanon and Israel? Or the 20-year southern Israeli occupation of Lebanon?

Or the Intifadas in Israel / Palestine?

If not, I wouldn’t be too concerned.

You’re also forgetting our allies in Saudi Arabia and the opposing Islamic faction - massive blocker to Iran wanting full out war.

It‘s a delicate system of checks and balances that flares up every decade. Many, many countries are contributing to support for both sides (supplying Israel and the Lebanese Army - separate to Hezbollah).

I feel truly sorry for the many non-Hezbollah residents of Lebanon, that country has suffered far too much.

Trump is a populist who will say anything for publicity/ effect.

But this is the first time in my lifetime that the possibility of World War III has crossed my mind.
Israel's actions are reckless, and they genuinely scare me. People often talk about Putin being insane, but I believe Netanyahu seems more unhinged.

Further escalation and increased military responses from Middle Eastern countries deeply worry me.

It's rumoured that Israel possesses nuclear weapons, and I believe they are the most dangerous country in terms of recklessness.

I agree that the UK is at risk of increased terrorist attacks.

Edited

Israel has nuclear weapons; it's common knowledge, not a rumour.

Ger1atricMillennial · 02/10/2024 01:21

If Trump turns out to be correct it will be by luck or his own instigation, not by intelligence or insight.

This conflict has been going on for a very long time and seems to be localised to the that area, unlike the European conflicts that expanded globally. I would be more concerned about the ongoing attempt of Russia to expand especially if they win with Ukraine and then go for a different country.

I think many people will be shocked into immediately realising WW3 is here, much sooner than we’d like to think. What’s coming is going to utterly destabilise life as we know it for so many people around the world. Stay safe everyone.

No it isnt. Any type of conflict destabilises the lives of the people directly affected, but thats just scaremongering.

Trump is going to inflame the rhetoric around us 'being close to WW3' because it suits him politically, he likes to cultivate an image of being a tough guy who would sort it all out (!).
I dont think we're near Ww3. There have been full blown wars previously in the middle east (Israel/Egypt) and they weren't world wars.

ToBeDetermined · 02/10/2024 00:55

Calmomiletea · 02/10/2024 00:39

Technically, by definition, we are already in WW3.

Which definition are you using?
I think this is a good overview of the difference between a war and a world war

2MargerinesOnTheGo · 02/10/2024 00:49

There is nothing we can do about it if it is. We are infinitely fortunate that most of us here live in reasonably safe countries. The best we can do is to take each day as it comes, give of your time and money if you can to charities you support. Love those closest to you. Be mindful. There may be a day when we’re all killed in war, it may be soon, it may not be in our natural lifetime. Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it wont get you anywhere.

Vulnerable to increased terrorist attacks on UK soil for one.

No, I don't see how supplying arms to anyone makes us any more vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

It's not something we just started doing a couple of years ago when Putin invaded Ukraine the second time.

BeatsAntique · 02/10/2024 00:28

Don’t listen to him, he’s just trying to feed his war mongering base.

Lol, I take it you don't realise trump is actually an isolationist.

World war one and two became world wars because of colonialism. Lots of countries not originally affected by the war were dragged into it.
This will not be world war three. It may be war in the Middle East though.

Who were the US and Soviet Union colonies of in the Second World War? Or Japan?

Livelovebehappy · 02/10/2024 00:17

Whitenoise1 · 01/10/2024 23:23

I do feel things in the Middle East are escalating rapidly & we do provide Israel with weapons as do the USA

What, and you think that’s causing things to escalate? I don’t think tin pot countries like Iran need an excuse. If Israel didn’t have arms, they’d still be attacked by the idiots they have the misfortune to live alongside.

Whitenoise1 · 02/10/2024 00:09

It's a lot more likely if he becomes president again.
But no I don't think there will be a world war
