Do you think that George Clooney is testing the water?

Just that.

Imagine Mr. Trump is not a happy bunny today.

I assumed other Dems were basically asking/using Clooney to say what they think but don't feel they can say openly yet.

justasking111 · 10/07/2024 22:17

There's rumours they'll parachute Michelle Obama in last minute. Her husband still meets with world leaders on the down low regularly.

This would be a disaster for the Dems, much like Hilary was too. They need a candidate who can turn the head of people who are thinking about voting for Trump, not one that speaks to their own base.

EverybodyLovesString · 10/07/2024 23:31

Clooney fell out with the Biden administration months ago after the White House criticised the International Criminal Court case his wife worked on. He called Biden aides to complain about it.

Michelle Obama is not running. She’s said consistently for years that she doesn’t like politics, wasn’t happy when Barack ran and will never go into it herself. I don’t know why that rumour persists so strongly. Wishful thinking maybe?

So not a fan of Trump, then?

I really hope this happens!!!!

I just assumed he's said what he did because he's a democrat party funder.

It was his conversation with Mr. Biden at the latest part fundraiser that made him realise that something was very wrong with Joe.

I thought it was only 3 weeks since Clooney did the fundraiser for Biden. So has he changed his mind in the last 3 weeks ?
I always thought when he married it was with an eye on the Presidency.

I think that the night of the fundraiser people met Joe in person, spoke to him and finally realised the scale of the deception that the democratic party had pulled on them. There was no hiding it.

After the party the gossip started and grew legs. Clooney as the host was made to look a fool for hustling people for donations.

He'll have thought long and hard about the article he was in. He's not an impulsive man.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 10/07/2024 22:57

I just assumed he's said what he did because he's a democrat party funder. Otherwise I can't imagine why he thinks his opinion is relevant.

It hadn't crossed my mind he might want to run at some point !!

TinySmol · 10/07/2024 22:46

No, I don't think he would.
He's deeply closeted and running for the presidency might expose that.

What a strange observation. Could he not perhaps have just loved her? What on earth does his choice of partner have to do with anything, anyway?

(FWIW, I’m an heterosexual woman, married 35 years. I love Amal too! Who wouldn’t?)

I mean Reagan was an actor...

Yes but he had also been Governor of California and a pretty successful one at that. He didn't step straight from the film set to the White House..

I personally think it's too late. Biden should have stood aside as a future candidate months ago. Now it would be Kamala and she's just not very popular with the swing voters. As a Democrat, it is infuriating.

FinalCeleryScheme · 10/07/2024 22:29

Clooney’s intervention is big, and welcome. But I very much doubt he’d stand and he’d lose if he did.

A pp mentioned Reagan having been an actor. He’d also been the Governor of California. Which has a larger budget than many nations.

Dabralor · 10/07/2024 22:29

Well, that confirms it - we have officially been living in an immersive 5D Hollywood movie since 2016 🍿

They voted Ronald Regan in and he was an actor turned politician so why not?

They voted that mad orange twat in too!

Yeah, I've heard that - would seem so dodgy though, not only has she never been elected or had any sort of political experience but her husband has been one of Biden's biggest supporters. For him to have been insisting he shouldn't stand aside and then at the last moment suddenly say ok yeah, Biden is past it actually and I just didn't notice; no real time to find someone better now, best just vote for my wife instead! It's already looking like Obama is rather more involved in the presidency than he really should be... I really hope Biden stands aside asap and they find someone more suitable - who is probably not Harris.

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/07/2024 22:21

Why not? A very smart lady.

How TAF can anyone think that Trump is fit to be President? It’s insane.

If the world ever needed a little bit of sabre-rattling, surely it’s now? 😁

Oh amazing if true....save the world George

You know, I think he actually could. Literally. Just imagine if Trump gets in for another term? Providence help us all.

On the surface, it’s a cliche but think it through. 4 years without Trump as President and time for the Democrats to get their act together.
