Just that.

Imagine Mr. Trump is not a happy bunny today.

@TeaMistress i know she’s not popular with a lot of people but Scaramucci seemed adamant that was because she had been confined by the role of VP and unable to be herself. She was a darn good prosecutor by all accounts pre-politics and gave Brett Kavanagh a roasting during his confirmation hearing.

The optics of dropping her in favour of, let’s face it, most likely A N Other white male candidate would play horribly with the Democratic base, so in a lot of ways they don’t have much choice. I’d be interested in an all female ticket - Kamala and maybe someone like Gretchen Whitmer as VP, but I don’t know that America is quite ready for the prospect of “shock horror” women in charge!

Why not anyone would be better than the two on offer.

Yes I think anyone would be a better choice than the current two, one is obviously unwell and the other is an orange convicted felon. The difficult part might be convincing the American people that voting for someone else might be a better idea.

justasking111 · 11/07/2024 16:16

Reagan cut his teeth on California and turned it round. Clooney PTA perhaps.

So no I think he prefers behind the scenes influence.

Highly recommend listening to The Rest is Politics US, which drops every Friday.

Anthony Scaramucci was pretty confident last week that Biden will have to go and likely before the end of July. He said he was hearing in Democrat circles that Kamala Harris might be parachuted in to take control until the election and also as the nominee.

On George Clooney, I thought he’d hinted years ago that he had political aspirations.

Edited

I think Biden will have to go but I wouldn't like the Democrats chances at winning with Kamala as the nominee. I may be entirely wrong and doing the lady a disservice but as far as I understood she wasn't necessarily favoured by the electorate.

Yes but I still don't understand why closeted men get to tell us what to do, how to vote and what to think.
Why do they get to do that when they're not honest about their personal lives?

Why do they get to leave it to other gay people to risk coming out?
Why do they get to sit back while other gay people who come out have to deal with all the positive and negative attention of coming out?
It's not honest or authentic.

What’s it do with you? Or anyone else for that matter? People are entitled to privacy.

To be honest, US politics is so ridiculous anything is possible.

newnamethanks · 11/07/2024 15:05

Who cares what George Clooney does with his genitalia? Whatever it is, I expect its less distasteful than grabbing women by the pussy and graphically indulging himself with Stormy Daniels. And he isn't DT. A great recommendation.

Telephonewiresabove · 11/07/2024 14:30

What in earth has George Clooney done that could possibly make you think that this would work?

Ronald Reagan was a very successful Governor of California prior to
running for President.

Hopebridge · 11/07/2024 14:27

I bet they would prefer Clooney

There’s some really nasty homophobic nonsense on this thread.

And conspiracy fantasies. My goodness

Jog on.

Early marriage to older woman to put press off the scent - check.
Marriage to older woman fails and divorce follows - check.
Numerous much younger, random non-celeb girlfriends on two - three year contracts, one after the other - check.
Non-dlsclosures in place for all of those girlfriends - check.
Described by press as 'confirmed bachelor' - check.
Ex-girlfriends talk about how how he was a father figure not a lover - check.
Hasty marriage in middle age to relatively unknown much younger woman - check.
Twins born by IVF - check.

It's textbook.

He's screaming.

TinySmol
Great forensic analysis there!

as in
resolutely confirmed bachelor is set up with a woman with whom he would not in the normal run of things, ever encounter.

Hasty arranged marriage to Lebanese /English International Human Rights Lawyer,

IVF twins purportedly surrogate (Amal not seen for last few months of her confinement)
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

George moving into politics has been mooted for a long time, based on his perceived
integrity - remember him being arrested with his Father at the Sudanese Embassy, 2012?
then wed in 2014
his Clooney Foundation for Justice, clean cut movie image, constant gushing
over his wife, her showboating at premieres, carefully presented glamorous persona - if we look back we will see a pattern formed when we were not paying attention

Clooney into politics isn’t such a wide stretch.

Ronald Reagan won over everyone with his charm and bonhomie, including a starstruck Maggie Thatcher and a more restrained but charmed HMtQ.

When circumstance demanded, Ronnie was ready, Invasion of Grenada by request,
the famous ATC strike when he sacked the lot of them mostly his warm relationship with a liberal minded Gorbachev, ending the Cold War.
No one thought Reagan could realistically fill the role, but he did, a great President..

Would Clooney be able to fill these actor/President shoes.

Perhaps Clooney will attempt to emulate him : actor, confident public speaker, popular, charismatic, squeaky clean, appealing, wife and two kids, who knows.

Rumoured - PM Harold Holt - Australia. The net was definitely closing in on him and he took a dip from which he never returned.

Rumoured - PM Billy McMahon - Australia.

TinySmol · 11/07/2024 12:39

Yes - Ted Heath.

qwerty14 · 11/07/2024 12:28

The real scandal is that the press covered up Biden’s condition for so long and did not report on it, they covered it up.
Now they say he has been like this for over a year, but here’s a vanity fair ‘’’reporter’’’ no mention of Biden’s decline.

No thanks love, you can take your conspiracy theory nut bollocks and you can "jog on" in fact why not take a taxi it will be quicker

Why do you think you have the right to know what a person does and who they do it with it their own private life. It has nothing to do with you.

They keep alluding to Newsom who they could parachute in. He runs California.

The problem is that they would have to get rid of Camalla Harris, the vice president to install Newsom.

They both live in California and so she would have to sell her home and move to a different state as electoral law states they can’t run in the same state.

Evicting Camalla to install a white man when their most loyal demographic support is from Black and Hispanic women would not go well.

Ah ok rumours around Sir Ted Heath, before my time.

Far more openly gay MPs now though I’m sure they will experience some homophobia.

I watched ‘A Very English scandal’ a couple of years ago, it showed how absolutely desperate people were to maintain the secrecy for their careers and to be socially accepted. Desperately sad for all involved.

Yes, I think an openly gay PM could win here, but not in US
