I agree. The far right are actually gaining traction in Europe and it's very concerning. I would however put Braverman on that trajectory given some of her views. I also wonder what chaos would ensue if Reform were given free reign. I believe they're being very circumspect.

What do you call 'far right' and 'centre', though? Where would you put Margeret Thatcher on that graph? I don't think the Tories will ever be far right. Even Reform are not far right. It's an over-used and mis-used descriptor.

They’ll go through the same trajectory as Labour did. They’ll vote in a far right leader, lose the next election and only then will they realise that you can only win from the centre and return there.

I think that would be a mistake. They are by far the most successful political machine in the last 200 years & there is a strong natural conservatism about the British people which no democrat would ignore. (I'm Labour just for clarity).

I disagree. I think a huge part of the problem has been that for most Tory voters they haven't been right wing enough.

It was obvious that Sunak was a better politician than a lettuce Truss, but when it went to the party membership selection they chose Truss. I would suggest sone element of racism within the membership would explain that.

Moderates are normally the GE winners so if they try and out reform reform then they will be out of power for some time. Of course it will also be interesting to see if Labour can make any inroads on the issues that the hard right/reform do battle on e.g small boat crossings and processing asylum claims.

Not true. For any government to be most effective, they need a competent opposition to keep them focussed and stop them believing their own press.

I’m no Tory but did think Braverman was delighted with the result. BBC fixated too much on her and other Tories on election night, I watched live and the green leader won Bristol and yet we were stuck watching a Tory. Anyway

I think the tories will pander to reform and right wing populism when they lost far more to the LDs which suggests they need to moderate themselves. They could end up in the wilderness if they can’t figure out what they stand for.

I think Patel will get it as more of a interim measure, scary to think she’s a more moderate candidate.

I like her. I think we need more Suellas and I don't have a single issue with the Rwanda plan either, not that it counts for much now. Your 'divisive and aggressive' is my straight talking and no nonsense. I don't think we'd be calling her aggressive if she were a man, by the way.

I don't like her as much as I like Kemi though. She's my heroine. I literally cannot wait until she is head of the Tory party. In fact, if that happens, I think I might join as a party member and start helping at a local level with the campaign for 2029. A fresh start with fewer incompetent men and a brilliant, strong and sensible woman at the helm, who takes no shit.
