Anyone else watching US dems implode?

I'm not intentionally watching it but sure, the discussion and dissent about whether Biden should be the Democratic candidate is in the media. Nothing will really be worth reporting until Congress is back in session, though.

I don't see what's happened so far as being fundamentally different in nature from what the Republicans did with Trump in 2016 when they pulled out every recognizable Republican name to theorize about how the nominee could be someone besides Trump even though the normal process for selecting a nominee had been followed and Trump was the clear winner. The big difference is that Biden is both sitting President and presumed Democratic nominee for the 2024 Presidential election; claiming he's unfit is a completely separate process for each and one must necessarily impact the other.

I think focusing on whether Biden can beat Trump, rather than whether he's fit to see out his current term and/or another one, is a tactical mistake. Trump's capacity was officially called into question because of his affect and behaviour during his Presidency - Biden's, more than four years later, still has not been. I don't get the Kamala Harris bashing at all - like her politics or not, she's certainly competent - but no one can ever coherently explain that. And as circuses go, I'd say UK and French politics are making US politics look pretty tame these last few weeks!

The right, pretty much everywhere democratic, is typically a broad church which accepts a wide range of shitty views. The left tends to be more puritanical, demonstrative of values and expecting more outward expression of those values. Judean People's Front, anyone?

Well if you watched the debate it was quite obvious that the candidate isn't all there anymore. I don't know if it is a brilliant move to unite behind a candidate who is showing clear signs of dementia. Neither of those two should be anywhere near the nuclear football, IMHO.

They are - or at least some of them are - belatedly trying to deal with something that has seemed obvious for some time. Joe Biden should not be running for President this time. He's too old and not really firing on all cylinders. Someone should have told him this about two years ago. Or more than one person. That they let it get this far is a terrible failure of political courage that may well hand the presidency to Trump, which is an awful thing for the whole of humanity.

The Tories did just that, gave a masterclass in losing an election.
