Reform are getting a shitload of voters

Germany have the benefit of specific anti-Nazi legislation. They might make mistakes but they'll struggle to go far right again.

And luckily DH has an EU citizenship (which I realise not everyone does).

You do understand that it's now quite well accepted by economists that movement of labour - immigration - has indeed affected the job market for lower income people, and affected things like housing availability for the same people, in a significant way?

I'm nervous about this (I am not white) particularly as they seem to be rather an unknown quantity at the moment.

Hmm. I don't think that is a safer bet. In fact I think it would be worse. They have even bigger problems than the UK with immigration.

I'm not saying that sarcastically btw because I agree with you about being better off out of it. But obviously it's not just as easy as packing up and going now it's a long process to become an EU resident.

Talking about " these people" it's divisive. We need to work together, all sections of our society need to feel heard. It's actually not the boomers which worry me, it's the male youth vote. Reform reaching parts other politicians can't reach. Dismiss this at your peril it's chilling.

I don't dispute that there are graduates who remain and more ethnic diversity. I'm certainly not suggesting that everyone who is left behind is a right-wing voter. But the fact remains that if 10,000+ students who tend to be more left-wing have gone home to their leafy Tory suburbs, that will reduce their impact on the vote in their university constituencies.

There are no other true 'right wing' parties. Conservatives have headed too far to the left which means for those that have different views on the keeping the NHS, taxation policy and the funding of public services have no real alternative to select. Hopefully after this the Conservatives will realise that they need to realign with their traditional voters and stop trying to be everything to everyone.

Hopeful thought: The Brexit party didn't survive long after the referendum. None of these far right parties last long.

A lot of it is nostalgia. I hear a lot of conversations about the good old days, especially from older generations.

I see numbers of Reform leaning people, but I don't believe there are enough to gain political power. They are discontented Brexers, strongly right-wing, mostly Conservative defectors, and almost invariably of, or above, retirement age. There is practically no support among the young.

Farage can see the clusters of such voters, and picked the biggest one for himself.

Scotland. Things are just as shit here. Every party says they'll fix it. Anyone who believes that Farage of all people will are thick. Anyone who believes that asylum seekers automatically get a lovely house and lots of money are just as thick. It's not divisive to call them what they are.

@Fantapops where do you live? I'm in the North. People can't get appointments, they can't get dentist appointments, they are experiencing homelessness because there aren't enough council properties available, they can't stay in emergency temp accommodation because it's all full (asylum seekers stay there) , people are poorer than ever, crime is rife, parts of towns are no longer safe, the town centres are full of pound shops. These people feel forgotten, they are politically homeless. They switch the tv on and see asylum seekers arriving "on the boats", getting houses and cared for and it solidifies their point.

Then Nigel appears saying he'll fix it all.

If you don't live here you won't understand. I'm watching it happen with my own eyes. The people I know who have voted Reform aren't racist, I don't have any racist friends or acquaintances. They've simply watched their towns be decimated resulting in a miserable existence for them and Nigel is telling them it's all the fault of the boats.

Sneering at them and calling them thick will only cause more division.

I think blaming the Reform vote on people who call them out for what they are is ridiculous. People who are stupid enough to vote Reform won't have their minds changed. They're more than happy to make stupid choices (Brexit, voting for Reform) because at the root they think it'll make all the non-white people go away.

Anyone who actually thinks that will happen or is logistically possible, needs to give their head a wobble. There's nothing clever about that line of thinking and they certainly haven't been disenfranchised given that the Leave voters literally won.

Oh don't be bloody ridiculous. I'm just commenting on what ive been witnessing on TwiX. I'm not a Reform voter. The success of Reform is, as others have said is that pp are fed up with the current system and don't feel that either of the main parties care about them.

I'm a lifelong Labour voter but spoilt my ballot as I'm disgusted with their attitude towards women, especially my own MP.
