Reform did far better than most were expecting. I certainly didn’t think they would get any seats. Labour need to think very carefully if they are planning massive tax rises for working families who are already struggling with the cost of living and a raid on people’s pensions and savings then people will end up feeling disaffected and they they could be in for a shock at the next election. Look at what’s happening in France at the moment.

Reform Have clearly said in their manifesto that essential workers are ‘mainly healthcare workers’.
If you think we are importing 750,000 health care workers you are out of touch with reality.
The 10’s of thousands of Indian IT workers coming in are suppressing salaries in IT. Exactly the same as the massive influx of builders from EE did. Exactly the same as the massive influx of lorry drivers did.

The areas with Reform MPs are all pretty deprived and represent areas with the lowest achieving group in the UK - white working class men.

But if the problem was with the party in power then why didn’t these people turn to Labour

Labour need to worry that ultimately they didn’t win this landslide victory because huge numbers of ex Tory voters turned to them but because the disenfranchised Conservatives turned to Reform and split Tory vote

Interesting to know how many seats would Conservatives have won if the Reform votes were added to the Conservative vote.

The TV in front of me says that Labour have 410 seats out of 650.
Labour are a centre left party.
Previously the largest party was a right to far right party.

Historically by taxing working productive people.

Maybe this time Labour will have the balls to increase taxes on unearned wealth, such as more punitive inheritance tax, a proper wealth tax, and a redesign of council tax. Maybe a proper Land Value Tax, where someone in a £ million house pays a lot more than someone in a £80k flat.

Why? Because a citizen's value is wholly determined by the amount of in tax they pay?

There are an awful lot of minimum wage workers propping us all up by cleaning hospitals, emptying bins and wiping bottoms for a pittance. Not to mention admin and retail.

The last Labour government did pretty well. General quality of life was a lot better.

When there was money available to the government because the economy was doing well (on shaky ground, as it turned out).

You will also note that Labour lost the 2010 election, so it looks as if the electorate were less than impressed with the way they were dealing with the aftermath of the 2008 crash.

The UK has just voted to get rid of a much discredited right wing government who are friends with many of the far right parties in the countries you mention.

I would suggest that the UK is ahead of the curve not behind.

Immigration is a huge and growing issue. The majority are escaping from poverty not war. More people die from poverty than war. But there are 700 million people worldwide living in extreme poverty and we cannot sustain them all. With climate change migration pressures are going to increase. It is incredibly naive to simply say ‘we should be supporting people from war torn countries’

But it didn’t because people were too busy protesting and wanting to overturn the result and calling people who voted leave racists and unintelligent. Almost like the posters calling Reform voters racists and bottom feeders.

There's an urban, MC tendency to just assume that the Reform/UKIP/Brexit voters are thick/racist/hopeless/vile, but that's the opposite of constructive, and it's just mutual incomprehension.

Then you’re in the wrong profession. You shouldn’t assume anything. Surely being a teacher is about taking onboard what children think, why they think what they do, and not allow your own opinions to cloud judgement on why they feel like they do. If a teacher, you’re in an ideal position to speak with your pupils on this subject, and give guidance, not close them down by just assuming.

The anger and frustration is quite obviously with the party that has been in power for 14 years. This both-sides-the-same schtick is utter nonsense.
