Should the U.K. just buy back America?

After the Supreme Court decision mostly favoring Trump, that ruled that presidents mostly have immunity, it's clear that America has abandoned the basic idea that America didn't want a king, that no one was above the law.

Well, if that's gone, maybe the U.K. should just scoop up America again.

No way who the heck would want that be a part of an uncivilised place like the USA

Laurmolonlabe · 29/01/2025 17:06

Why should buy what was stolen off us by force-spin on it.

In my experience, no, it's not reasonable to expect everyone to laugh at a joke. Some jokes are for niche audiences. Some jokes are dependent on the kind of knowledge that comes with maturity. Some jokes are dependent on people having certain kinds of shared information. Some jokes are dependent on a willingness to find humor in tragedy.

In the U.S. there are a batch of comedians hosting late-night television shows, and some of the jokes are hilarious. However, since the hosts tend to be liberal Democrats, I rather doubt that Trumpers would find them funny.

I watch those late-night shows.
They’re generally pretty funny.
I enjoy them, anyhow.
But then, I’m a former Republican.
And I never never supported Donald.

A joke is when everybody laughs, OP.

@knitnerd90 I was thinking more along the lines of outlook/thinking/ideas & religion than politics

I wouldn't be surprised if the USA had broken up into two, three or more separate countries by the end of this century.
A country on the West Coast (Cali, Oregon & Wash St), a country on the East Coast (New England, NY St & New Jersey along with DC & some bits in between), and a country that has the middle/southern states or Texas becomes an independent country.

If you ever look at more detailed breakdowns of the US, it's much much less simple than that. States look "blue" or "red" because that's the majority, but people are divided not only geographically but by race, religion, class, and educational level. There's a reason the conservative strategy has been to subvert institutions from within.

The US is so divided internally that the only thing that would bring the country together would be a foreign invasion. The thing is, what country would be stupid enough to take on American problems...

Exactly, @CanadianJohn. Or, alternatively, an invasion from outer space, like, appropriately, the movie "Independence Day.

Hmmm. I mean I’d want the Hollywood movies and the massive burgers but not the guns and the politicians. Can we buy it and sell it for parts?

capitanaamerica · 02/07/2024 08:09

I heard that Gavin Robinson is planning to buy it with the proceeds of the investments from the Magical Money Tree he got from Theresa May.

cheezncrackers · 02/07/2024 08:09

Good God! Don't we have enough problems?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 02/07/2024 08:08

We don't seem to be able to afford to fill in pot-holes in our roads and, I think off the top of my head, America would probably cost a tad more.

Lalalacrosse · 02/07/2024 07:55

I’m impressed that you think we could afford it. (Spoiler: we can’t)

CroftonWillow · 02/07/2024 07:53

It's overvalued.

California alone has a higher GDP than the entire UK (3.9 vs. 3.3), so good luck with that.

Edited

Yep you might need to get a bigger credit card op

Can’t get my head around Borden’s family though, you think they’d want to protect him.. he should be pottering round with a pair of secateurs.

Borden? .. Biden.

Borden was a totally different kettle of fish!

Zonder · 02/07/2024 07:38

I think we have enough troubles of our own. Gve it back to its original people.

OhYoko · 02/07/2024 07:35

Da da da da da, da da da da dey a da....

Should the U.K. just buy back America?
Meadowfinch · 02/07/2024 07:32

No thanks. All those loonies, conspiracy theorists, flat earthers and guns.

I can think of a million things we could spend our money on and have much more fun.

Nah, what we need is a full scale alien invasion. Then Samuel L. Jackson can be president and they”ll all pull together to save the world.
