I saw an interesting thread on Twitter that said Reform UK is now providing an option for those who previously felt they had nowhere to go.

Does this apply to you? Or have you decided to just 'hold your nose' and vote for someone you'd really rather not (best of a bad bunch)?

@Livelovebehappy I'll repeat what I said upthread.

I never said it was( racist to be concerned about uncontrolled immigration). I get your concerns over immigration. I get for some people it's numbers not race. I get some people feel the impact of immigration way more than others.

But Nigel Farage is a racist and no one should support him. Find a better way of expressing your legitimate concerns.

Yep. Definitely Reform for me. And many others I know. Labour and the Tories are both incompetent. I dont want the Tories, and I think once in, Labourr will revert to type and the far left will start having more say. I look at people like Rayner, and think no thanks. There's a reason Labour haven't been in power for more than a decade. I think atm theyre the lesser of two evils for a lot of voters. Obviously Reform arent going to get in. This time.

You don't want the far left but will vote for the far right....

If enough people vote reform, they get in, simple as.

& if they do get significant MPs, thats down to Labour, i spat my coffee just now, a labour guy said "Yes there will be tax rises under Labour because these are the policies we've inherited from the Tories"

FFS change them??? You'll be in power, stop the Threshold freezes..... what the fuck does "Change" mean if its just more of the same????

If you vote for Reform you condone racism. Simple.

Nope. That line has been trotted out time and time again. It's not racist to be concerned about uncontrolled immigration. What part of that dont you underdtand? If you just spout out these one liners, then at least back it up with why you think that. It's just a lazy assumption.

I feel politically homeless and have done for many years. For me it has been who I have the least objections to.

Reform is not the answer though.

Similar. I voted Tory last time because Corbyn horrified me so much after years of being Labour. (And our Tory MP is really good and engaged with the community and a really decent guy).

This time- no idea. Tory MP is still the same person, but christ on a bike. What a shit show it's all been.

Shortfatsuit · 08/06/2024 10:04

I am politically homeless in many ways. No party adequately represents my views. I will be voting Labour though, as the best chance at getting our awful Tory MP out.

I absolutely despise anyone who chooses to vote reform. You have to be a pretty shit human being to stoop that low.

WestEndWindy · 08/06/2024 10:04

That was for @spuddy4

As a socialist I'm still politically homeless. Will probably vote Green and accept it's just a statement of principle rather than a meaningful vote.

I don't understand how Reform provide "an option for those who previously felt they had nowhere to go." Surely it's only an option for the minority of those people who happen to be racist idiots? I'd rather kill myself.

You would rather kill yourself than vote Reform? Really? I'm still undecided but definitely not voting Green now as it obviously attracts dramatic idiots.

If you vote for Reform you condone racism. Simple.

It's attitudes like this that will push people to reform and they'll be silent about it because they fear people judging them.

It's not racist to be concerned about how many people are coming into this country and how it's affecting public services.

lovelysunshine22 · 08/06/2024 09:59

@Lifeinlists in the SE not far outside London.

lovelysunshine22 · 08/06/2024 09:58

@SuePreemly hmmmm just because this hasn't affected your middle class life doesn't mean it doesn't affect others! Being sneeringly obtuse doesn't help anyone.

I agree to a certain extent with @lovelysunshine22 in that for example in last night's debate, nobody addressed the immigration concern with any seriousness with the exception of Reform. Maybe I see it too simplistically but for me it's not a race issue, but a numbers one. Too many of anything can be a problem and it certainly seems that overpopulation is causing problems for everyone living here. You can't expel those already living here so surely the only solution is to limit extra coming in. I hope that doesn't make me a racist? People are people in my book, but they all use resources and resources are finite.

Many of the politically homeless were I think Conservative voters who think they've done a shocking job over the last few years (mostly down to Boris Johnson during the pandemic imo). Reform seems like the nearest place to give a vote to.

I agree it is a numbers issue not race.

I used to vote Conservative but I could never vote for Sunak. I'll be voting for Reform UK because actually they offer some sensible views on how the UK should move forward. Our infrastructure simply can't cope with more immigration. It can't cope with the immigrants we already have. We don't have enough houses, hospitals, prisons, GP or dentists appointments for the people already here. I don't want to spend billions on housing and supporting more immigrants whilst the money we do have should be spent on education, getting more teachers and classroom assistants in our classrooms, building more social housing and getting more nurses.

Thats Labours policies you ve listed there on skills etc

Reform is a vote for policies that would lead to diplomatic disaster & death, their plan is to tow migrants back to France, with or without their cooperation, how do you think the migrants will react? or the french/EU and these boats are very fragile.

Would lead to trade sanctions, zero policing of the channel on the french side, extreme customs checks, the ripping up of any agreement with the EU on anything, might even lead to our navy clashing with French warships.

Very sensible.....

spuddy4 · 08/06/2024 09:50

I can't vote labour because I've done over 20 years of labour madness in Wales and it's getting worse. When Starmer called Wales his labour blueprint I thought Jesus wept.

I don't know enough about Reform, I do agree that we have to have some sort of cap on people coming into the country because that's what's causing the problems for the NHS, local councils etc, but I'd rather try a system similar to Australia where you have to have so many points.

I don't agree with funding Ukraine anymore because it's never ending and I don't see why we are getting involved in that particular war when there's lots of active wars happening.

I'm also disappointed that apart from the SNP I've not heard one party speak out against what's going on in Gaza, for me war is an important topic because I'm pissed off with old men sending young men to die for them and innocent people getting killed in the process.

I don't really know where I am politically because whilst I do believe we need a tougher approach to immigration I also don't believe in war but I also believe a woman is the only gender that can have periods and give birth.

I don't think there's a party out there for me but I do know I can't bring myself to vote labour so I'm open to any other alternative. And I've just read my post back and realised how screwed up my beliefs are so I don't need anyone telling me 😂

Has anyone come across this bunch? I thought the SDP fell away when LibDems formed?? Claims centre left but I don’t get that from them. And a bit Brexit for me.

But I would prefer a move away from the 2 party dominance and I am in favour of some form of PR which would allow other voices…

Migrants from SE Asia covered head to foot??? are you sure about this?

Why should a devout Muslim change religion because he/she lives in the UK?

Where do you live? This is my reality too. No one is suggesting anyone should change their religion but integration is important for wider society too. It cuts both ways.

We have a candidate whose sole platform is justice for Gaza. While this may be a laudable aim, the candidate hasn't addressed a single domestic issue, despite the constituency having many serious problems. Nonetheless, he is likely to receive many thousands of votes judging by the recent mayoral election.

lovelysunshine22 · 08/06/2024 09:37

@Alexandra2001 they shouldn't change religion but islam is also not the default religion in the uk! When you move into a different society/culture its on YOU to adapt not on the country/ society to adapt to you ( and i say that as someone who has lived abroad). When i visit an islamic country for instance i am mindful of the way i dress and behave to make sure i am respectful at all times! There are areas of the UK where it feels uncomfortable to be a white British female and that is so so wrong! It simply shouldn't be happening! When people voice concerns such as this they are shouted down by screams of racism!

I live in a very white area of the country and whilst i agree, migrants shouldn't expect society to change for them, there are also plenty of white areas that are unsafe for anyone to walk into.

Maybe the real reason, isn't so much migrants but that we are no longer police our streets and rape has virtually been legalised.

Most people in the UK do not practise any sort of religion, so i really don't see whats the issue with Islam, which certainly doesn't condone attacking white british women.... thats criminality.

@InWithPeaceOutWithStress and its comments like this that don't help! Yes your friends may have been wonderful but that doesn't mean that everyone has that experience!

TidyDancer · 08/06/2024 09:38

I'm leaning towards spoiling my ballot paper for the first time ever. I won't vote Tory, and the Labour candidate is anti women. Can't bring myself to vote Lib Dem or Green and the only other options here are Reform and two other dreadful right wingers. Would vote Labour if I had a decent Rosie Duffield type of candidate.

My vote or spoiling is pointless though, I'm in a classic permanent Tory area (they'd vote for a steaming pile of shit if it had a blue rosette on it etc).

@InWithPeaceOutWithStress im not talking about people blaming immigrants for social issues! Im talking about people who are being made to feel like outsiders in their own towns because of high immigration! People who see the areas they live in turned into what are effectively ghettos! I live just outside an area that has had massive amounts of immigrants from SE Asia, it is very unusual to see a female not covered from head to foot and you very rarely hear anyone talking English. The English children are in the minority in school and islam is very much the default religion! This should not be happening in the uk! Immigrants need to integrate and the government needs to ensure that happens!

You know where I posted about looking on the mirror and that Armstrong and Miller sketch.

Yeah.....maybe do a bit of reflection.
