She's definitely outside the norm of American First Ladies.

The Unsolvable Mysteries of Donald and Melania’s Marriage
By Frank Bruni

“He reserves fear for one person, Melania Trump.” That’s what Kellyanne Conway said about Donald Trump in her testimony before a congressional committee in 2022. But is that really true?

“At the end of the day, she could probably make or break him.” That’s what Stephanie Grisham, Donald Trump’s former press secretary, said about Melania to Katie Rogers of The Times this week. But is that because Melania has command of his heart or of his secrets? It’s a mystery, like so much about their marriage and about the former first lady herself.

Melania was tugged back into the news this week as her husband went on trial in Manhattan on charges stemming from his supposed dalliance with the porn star Stormy Daniels. Journalists wanted to know what Melania Trump was thinking. The judge presiding over the trial said that she could theoretically be called to testify.

For her to have become involved with him in the first place tells me all I need to know about the woman

sunnywithmeatbols · 15/08/2024 23:01

That photo is from 2016. Barron was about 10 years old. It's just a little boy and his mum.

Lalgarh · 15/08/2024 22:47

It's Getty Images and (if the Princess of Wales pics fiasco is anything to go by) if it is AI it'd be a major reason to withdraw as it's not labelled as such

MassiveSaladEater · 15/08/2024 20:30

This is a strange image. I can't work out how it's possible/if they are doing something inappropriate. Is it AI fake?

missdeamenor · 14/08/2024 17:57

Ivanka Trump calls her the beautiful statue. I remember someone saying they attended a dinner party with the Trumps and Melanie didn't say a word. Is a personality necessary when you're a great beauty? Sadly I'll never know.

Canalboat · 14/08/2024 17:42

If she can just get on and lead a mainly separate life, isn’t she better just waiting for him to die rather than divorcing him? I’d like a chat to her, she must have some stories to tell.

I have no idea whether she would be super lovely as a dinner party guest or super boring as I have not met her - but if she wants to pop by for dinner I would happily seat her and see how the conversation went before I formed an opinion

I love this reply (as long as she doesn't bring her husband)

She’s a trophy bride - happy to put up with anything if her lifestyle is maintained.

Shes not interesting - she just follows a pattern.🤷‍♀️

Well I have a highly intelligent Aunt who tied herself to a pretty ignorant and very young man to get herself out of Germany after WWII. Sometimes you takes what you can get and get out.

There's a novel there !!

You would have thought Melania could have found someone less dreadful to marry? Especially given his actual wealth appears to either to fluctuate wildly or have been drastically overstated.

I would love to read her autobiography. She must know a lot about the family.
I did read that at an international summit she didn't need the earphones for simultaneous translation because her French is good from the fashion world.
Or maybe she just didn't care.

Well, she has a new supposed "autobiography" just about to be published. But I'd be more interested to see what she says after he's dead.

Melania is supposed to have met the Donald on the super rich party circuit

https://lithub.com/five-surprising-things-i-learned-from-partying-with-rich-people/

To distinguish itself as a high-end place, a club needs a so-called “quality” crowd which comes down to two indicators: men with money and women with beauty. The goal is to have significantly more women than men at all times. To that end, clubs hire party promoters to recruit women with a very specific sort of rarified beauty: fashion models who are, thin, predominantly white, and typically young.

Promoters take pains to find fashion models, recruit them, and bring them to the clubs, usually enticing them with free meals and bottomless glasses of champagne, sometimes also free transportation and accommodations in jet-set destinations like Cannes and St. Barts

My impression was that he met her at a restaurant, but I suppose it could have been a club. What I remember is that I think he was with someone else at the time, which is pretty damn rude.

If so it will be ghost written and terrible.

A memoir is coming

Well said

MollyButton · 25/07/2024 18:55

See I can't condem a woman who has done what women in tricky times have done throughout history. She married Donald to get American citizenship and security for herself. I'm sure getting it for her parents was part of the deal at least once she went to the White House. And I think she went with her eyes wide open (unlike Ivana).
She could be compared to a Faust who knows what compact she has made and is going to live with it but also make sure she gets what is owed.
And the Obamas seemed to find her easier to be with than her husband.

BustingBaoBun · 25/07/2024 18:29

I think she is an awful woman. She enables Trump. She had done some pretty bad things herself (the coat) and my opinion of her plummeted when her first speech was a direct plagiarism of Michelle Obrama's word for word.

Then she said how fucking boring it was to have to decorate the
WH and she hated it. I think she is a thick airhead who only hooked up with Trump to gain citizenship for herself and all her family. Oh and money.
Dreadful woman.

Five Surprising Things I Learned from Partying with Rich People

In 2010, I began going out with club promoters, that is, people who set up parties for the world’s “very important people.” Over the next few years, I interviewed 44 promoters by day and followed t…

The man (Trump) got on television last night and declared that the opposing party kill new born babies.

He did this by claiming that they (the opposition) want to have legal abortions right up to nine months, even after the baby is born.

Think about that.

I am not sure about « reflexive snideness » but God above, listen to what he actually says.

Now that you mention it, @yesmen, I'm surprised he didn't add that Dems drink babies' blood, as used to be said about Jews.

I imagine they live quite separate lives in their enormous mansions . She gets lots of dosh wnd does what she wants. He gets to say he has a wife.

mollyfolk · 29/06/2024 01:28

I’m a bit fascinated by her. She seems to hate him. There is video where he touches her and she brushes him off. She also seemed to have zero interest in being a First Lady. She was clueless about the role and seemed to have a poor team behind her so she often messed up a bit, like her Christmas decorations. And was attacked online/in the press which she seemed to hate. She doesn’t display any part of her personality in interviews and seems to have little to say about any topic. She’s mostly expressionless.

Why doesn’t she leave him? Sometimes I wonder if he has some kind of hold over her.
