If labour wins the next GE are they likely to overturn the ban on puberty blockers and disregard the Cass Report?

I want to vote for them but I'm so scared they will jump straight on the bandwagon and risk our kids safety. And women's.

5GreenLeaves Men in transition have used women's facilities without complaint for as long as I've been adult - well over 40 years.

Really? Where do you live?

I hope so, the rampant transphobia in this gross country is putting so many trans kids’ lives at risk, it’s horrifying. I doubt they will because of the saddening number of ignorant people like your good self who froth at the mouth at the idea of trans people having any sort of rights, and also because Labour are basically Tory lite at this point. Pathetic.

Womp Womp Womp.

I support trans people living their lives and having autonomy over how they dress and present.

Anything else would be crazy.

But they're not women. There needs to be a unisex space for them.

Why should women's safety be compromised when they aren't willing to even comprise getting their feelings hurt vs women getting raped?

@5GreenLeaves

"Because years ago if a man in a dress was in the women's loos he'd get battered."

Well that's OK then. Violence against trans (presumably homosexuals or anyone different too) is to be aplauded by your recokining is it? Bring back the good old days, eh!

"Self ID is just about paperwork. There's no evidence in countries that have it of it being abused to access women's spaces."

I am sure the women and children who have been assaulted by men self identifying as women in female only spaces as well as in public spaces will be reassured to hear that.

WallaceinAnderland · 21/04/2024 13:46

Self ID is dangerous as it removes all safeguarding for women and children.

I'm older than you and can't EVER remember personally seeing a man being in the women's toilet pre 2010.

And like I said, ive heard of it happening years and years ago and usually fathers turfed him out on his arse.

It's absolutely was not accepted socially.

Self ID will create a culture where ANY man can enter woman only spaces for ANY reason

He wont even have to self ID himself a GRC as we aren't allowed to ask about it anyway.

He literally just has to say the words "I'm a woman" or "I identify as a woman" and this MUST be accepted.

I mean, we're pretty much there already tbf. But legal self ID will just make it even harder to push back.

So yes, it's dangerous.

"What risk are puberty blockers to your kids? - unless of course they've doubts about their own gender."

I'm not just concerned about my own kids. I'm concerned about ALL children.

And my daughter was transed at school behind my back so she well could have gone down the medical trans route.

And NO. Self ID is a risk.

Because years ago if a man in a dress was in the women's loos he'd get battered.

Now he gets a free pass in accordance with self ID

I don't think they will. Cass's report is from a professional perspective as a Professor in the field, although some may think she's gone too far. I don't think for a minute that an incoming government, of whatever stripe, will ignore it and reopen the Tavistock clinic etc.

Puberty blockers need more evidence. If that shows the side effects outweigh any benefit then they won't be back except of course on the black market. OTOH if they're beneficial but perhaps only short term or in particular circumstances, for example to pause changes while other investigations and talking treatment are gone through, then I guess they could be licensed.

What risk are puberty blockers to your kids? - unless of course they've doubts about their own gender.

Self ID or whatever poses no greater threat to women than the position since time immemorial when trans women, and those in transition, used women's facilities.

I feel the same.

I think the best I can do is email the Labour candidate for my area and ask them, but that's hardly a guarantee of what a Labour government would do.
