If labour wins the next GE are they likely to overturn the ban on puberty blockers and disregard the Cass Report?

I want to vote for them but I'm so scared they will jump straight on the bandwagon and risk our kids safety. And women's.

my feminism is the type to include trans women (to give you an idea of my belief system) but I would not support a U-turn from Labour on this and I honestly don’t think they would anyway - it’s not a concern for me.

That’s not feminism then is it?

Wes Streeting has given a statement on official Labour position, in his role as shadow health Secretary:

"My response for @UKLabour underlining our support for the Cass Review’s evidence-led recommendations and our determination to put children’s health and wellbeing above the political fray"

https://twitter.com/wesstreeting/status/1777835770184634751

I don't think there is any danger at all of them reversing the decision on puberty blockers.

There is no self ID but this stuff happens, mostly below the radar. That's my point.

A man with a GRC is considered legally a woman. But no one is allowed to ask if he has a GRC. Therefore, a man exposing himself in a female changing area is protected by self ID.

WallaceinAnderland · 21/04/2024 14:22

I do - but only in gay clubs and they NEVER said they were women

Even Eddie Izzard never used to say he was a woman. Yet now he feels emboldened to use female toilets just because, what, he wants to?

This is what self ID does. It gives men an open invitation and leaves women with no protections.

This.

EI used to be my favourite comedian. I watched Dressed To Kill countless times.

I admired his honesty greatly and the fact he openly said he was a transvestite and that he didn't wear women's clothes, he wore his clothes. I agree with all of that and would happily be great friends with any person with a similar attitude and appearance.
But then he started calling himself a woman because of the movement.

He let go of his own beliefs and convictions and got pulled into something problematic and lost mine and alot of other women's respect and support.

We needed more people to be like Eddie not Suzie.

Until Labour are able to give an unequivocal message about the rights of children to grow up without being pressured into gender conformity and medicalisation, I can’t see it being a safe vote. There are plenty of people trying to undermine the Cass report and claiming it’s invalid.
Until they give an unequivocal message about women’s rights to single sex spaces being prioritised above a man’s right to affirmation, it’s not a safe vote. There are plenty of people wanting men accepted as women for some purposes.
Until labour give unequivocal messages about prisons, toilets, NHS and every other bloody battle line, it’s not safe.

Bromptotoo · 21/04/2024 14:14

It's quite ironic that until Johnson poisoned the well in 2019 reform of the process for obtaining a Gender Recognition Certificate was broadly a matter of consensus across all the main parties.

IncompleteSenten · 21/04/2024 14:12

They will look at what is likely to get the most votes and do that.

Bromptotoo · 21/04/2024 14:12

I'm not getting in a debate with those of a GC perspective.

There's no point as there's a more or less binary divergence of view.

RedToothBrush · 21/04/2024 14:11

Don't trust Labour

But

Medical insurance and liability is deeply affected by Cass and this won't change with a new government.

@5GreenLeaves

"I also said 'noone should never be subject to violence or feel unsafe using the toilet' but you'll ignore that part..."

No, I'm not ignoring anything. Twice now you've used violent descriptive language so it wasn't a mistake or error of judgment. I would be disturbed to hear affirmative views on "battering" people or "turfing them out on their arse" pouring from the mouths of tiny children so your diminuitive size is irrelevant.

I'm older than you and can't EVER remember personally seeing a man being in the women's toilet pre 2010.

And like I said, ive heard of it happening years and years ago and usually fathers turfed him out on his arse.

It's absolutely was not accepted socially.

I do - but only in gay clubs and they NEVER said they were women (even the fella who used to wear a red ball gown and heels, and used to chat to me about where I got my jewellery from).

"And like I said, ive heard of it happening years and years ago and usually fathers turfed him out on his arse."

For someone who is supposedly anti violence, you are using very violent language. You've already said (with conspicuous approval) that someone in a dress would get "battered" and you're now talking about turfing them "out on their arse".

Regardless of your views on the trans issue, you sound quite unpleasant. I sincerely hope this isn't the sort of rhetoric you use in front of your children.

Oh, you're one of those 'words are literal violence' 😂

I'm 5ft2 and 110lbs and I've never hit anyone in my entire life but I'm a threat to biological men twice my size because of the words I use. Okay.

I think Kier Starmer understands how toxic this debate has become. He certainly won’t want to do anything that alienates swathes of voters, equally he will want to be seen as inclusive and tolerant and be seen to be listening to his party. It’s a poisoned chalice and no one will ever be happy.

@5GreenLeaves Men in transition have used women's facilities without complaint for as long as I've been adult - well over 40 years.

Self ID is just about paperwork. There's no evidence in countries that have it of it being abused to access women's spaces.

There is plenty of evidence. Even in this country.

Men can't be women. EVER! and ...
Men are a danger to women, therefore...
Men need to stay out of women only spaces

I hope so, the rampant transphobia in this gross country is putting so many trans kids’ lives at risk, it’s horrifying. I doubt they will because of the saddening number of ignorant people like your good self who froth at the mouth at the idea of trans people having any sort of rights, and also because Labour are basically Tory lite at this point. Pathetic.

You do know it's grossly irresponsible to talk about suicide and self-harm in this way, don't you?

WallaceinAnderland · 21/04/2024 13:51

my point is that somebody who is doing a proper job of transition wouldn't present like a bloke in a dress

Regardless of how they 'present', they are actually a bloke in a dress. Transitioning doesn't change his sex.

Bromptotoo · 21/04/2024 13:50

@5GreenLeaves my point is that somebody who is doing a proper job of transition wouldn't present like a bloke in a dress.

I worked for a period of time with somebody transitioning male>female in their mid sixties. If I hadn't known their history I'd have assumed they were born female.

That's very transphobic, to suggest a transperson needs to 'pass' in order to be valid.

@5GreenLeaves

"Because years ago if a man in a dress was in the women's loos he'd get battered."

Well that's OK then. Violence against trans (presumably homosexuals or anyone different too) is to be aplauded by your recokining is it? Bring back the good old days, eh!

Edited

Absolutely not.

But the point is they shouldn't be there. In the 'good old days' as you call it, people took direct action as they knew it was wrong.

We need to protect trans people and women by setting clear boundaries so NOBODY is subject to violence.

Trans people and women should not be scared to use the toilet in 2024.

We all need safe places. And that is with sex segregated spaces.
