If labour wins the next GE are they likely to overturn the ban on puberty blockers and disregard the Cass Report?

I want to vote for them but I'm so scared they will jump straight on the bandwagon and risk our kids safety. And women's.

Since folks today think words are ‘literal violence’ …

@5GreenLeaves

"I also said 'noone should never be subject to violence or feel unsafe using the toilet' but you'll ignore that part..."

No, I'm not ignoring anything. Twice now you've used violent descriptive language so it wasn't a mistake or error of judgment. I would be disturbed to hear affirmative views on "battering" people or "turfing them out on their arse" pouring from the mouths of tiny children so your diminuitive size is irrelevant.

Edited

I'm using violent language because eit was a violent act.

Men found in toilets were battered.

They weren't politely asked to leave with a pat on their head. They were seen to be wrongdoing and physically hurt for it, often badly.

Why would I sugarcoat an act of violence against someone with 'soft language'?

Describing a violent act with factual language doesn't mean I condone it.

You won't get a straight answer to that question....

This is interesting though.

Does anyone know the statistics of rape, sexual assault or violence perpetrated by transwomen?

He went to school dressed like that. He was a teacher. It's a public fetish. Why some people think it is acceptable to make children participate in things like this is beyond me.

Well, I get why some people do, but women? Women who call themselves feminists? Why do they support public fetishes like that.

It was a very interesting case.

  • Trans women are women.
  • What, this one? [picture of Isla Bryson, convicted rapist, in skintight leggings showing the genital area]
  • Well, no, obviously not that one.
  • Why not? How are we supposed to tell that Isla Bryson is not a woman but any other obvious male who dresses in stereotypically female clothing is a woman if they say they are?
  • Because they say so. They know their own gender identity.
  • Have you heard of lying?
  • No one would lie about anything so serious.
  • Isla Bryson did!
  • That's a very exceptional case.
  • What about this one? [picture of 'teacher' with his enormous prosthetic breasts]
  • Emmmmm.......

Cross post with you saying you don’t want to talk about it. Sorry.

I think the Cass report is really important. It absolutely needs to be listened to and I would not support Labour if they disregarded it.

My feminism is intersectional thank you.

i didn’t come here to discuss that though.

Oh look a buzz word!

@valensiwalensi thank you for being prepared to listen to the Cass report, at least.

Can I ask, do you think transmen share all the qualities of men and so can be treated just as men are?

I’m trying to understand why you would include transwomen in feminism when they have little in common with women.

If it means in anyway considers the desires of men who declare themselves women - it is just something else stolen from women.

It's quite ironic that until Johnson poisoned the well in 2019 reform of the process for obtaining a Gender Recognition Certificate was broadly a matter of consensus across all the main parties.

Not at grass roots level, I think. Some women and a handful of men were trying to get senior people in all parties to listen to their concerns and they were being ignored (at best). I've been paying attention to this issue for the best part of ten years and the concerns about the huge and very sudden rise in the numbers of children being referred to GIDS and to gender clinics in other countries were already building. It was already clear there was very poor research evidence for any benefit from gender-confused children taking puberty blockers, and there was emerging evidence that there were many ways in which it was harming their health. When clinicians, researchers and concerned parents, teachers and youth workers around the world tried to raise the alarm about the very sudden rise in teenage girls presenting with gender dysphoria, which used to be vanishingly rare, they were labelled as bigots and right-wing Christian fundamentalists, which in most cases was obvious nonsense.

The Labour Party has been amongst the worst offenders at ignoring these concerns. They have lost my trust. I won't vote Tory, but I'm not at all sure I can vote Labour without very strong assurances that they won't go ahead with gender self-ID and they will tighten considerably the safeguards around NHS and private treatment for gender issues.

Just like men can believe they're women but reality says otherwise.

Feminism does not prioritise men.

How many men dressed like this 40 years ago?

@ginasevern off the top of my head, two recent prime ministers have been able to define woman, the baroness has led discussions in the HoL and Kemi Badenoch gave a great speech clarifying the protected characteristics in EDI and the responsibility of schools to provide services accordingly.

I’m neither political nor attentive, but labour have done sod all but equivocate. Wes Streeting was lack lustre in the recent discussion of the cass report, I think it was.

WallaceinAnderland · 21/04/2024 14:42

@PineappleTime and 3) men now have the opportunity to use women and children as props for their fetishes

We did not consent to this.

my feminism is the type to include trans women (to give you an idea of my belief system) but I would not support a U-turn from Labour on this and I honestly don’t think they would anyway - it’s not a concern for me.

Why would you include men in feminism?

PineappleTime · 21/04/2024 14:38

Bromptotoo · 21/04/2024 13:42

@5GreenLeaves Men in transition have used women's facilities without complaint for as long as I've been adult - well over 40 years.

Self ID is just about paperwork. There's no evidence in countries that have it of it being abused to access women's spaces.

It's just dishonest to pretend that a) the numbers of men pretending to be women and using women's facilities is the same now as it was 40 years ago and b) that men 'transitioning' in 2024 actually make anything like the effort to change their bodies or present as feminine in any way as they did 40 years ago. (Not that it changes the issue, but it's apples and oranges)

Until Labour are able to give an unequivocal message about the rights of children to grow up without being pressured into gender conformity and medicalisation, I can’t see it being a safe vote. There are plenty of people trying to undermine the Cass report and claiming it’s invalid.
Until they give an unequivocal message about women’s rights to single sex spaces being prioritised above a man’s right to affirmation, it’s not a safe vote. There are plenty of people wanting men accepted as women for some purposes.
Until labour give unequivocal messages about prisons, toilets, NHS and every other bloody battle line, it’s not safe.

Not a goady question but what are the Tories doing (or what have they done) to make you assured of their support for your views. So far as I can see, just about everything relating to the issue has happened under their governance, which is now 15 years. They've also had four PMs during that time (which is probably a record for a UK Government) so they haven't been shackled to one ideology. That's a very long time and a lot of PMs, as well as cabinet reshuffles, but they don't appear to have materially addressed anything.
