what was/is your parents preferred political party?

Fucking Tories.
We can't discuss politics. It just descends into an argument. I tried to discuss it once when I was in my 30s and my Dad just took the piss and called me "Red Minikievs" for weeks.
They read the Daily Mail.
I love them but they are blinkered, stubborn, and have absolutely no idea of how the modern "real" world works.
And they mix with like minded pensioners at the golf club, who all agree with each other.

One was a Tory the other Labour

Mum is a floating voter, so SDLP, Sinn Fein or People Before Profit.
Dad has never said but I think he votes Sinn Fein.

Every election day I they each call me separately to see if I need a lift to the polling station. At the bottom of my street. Voting is really important to them.😁

Both Tory every time (although they both liked Tony Blair). My Dad is no longer with us, and i'm so frustrated with my Mom - she is constantly moaning to me about the Conservatives (she watched the Boris doc recently and couldn't believe how he behaved, and has been incredulous at some of the antics of the party in recent years, yet will probably still vote Tory as Starmer as she thinks he's too boring. She admits he seems decent etc, but she will revert to how she's always voted despite all the evidence pointing to her having more in common with Labour this time round. She recently started volunteering at a foodbank and can see that the narrative about benefit scroungers is false, but she'll still vote Tory (she worships Thatcher). I despair

My dad was Tory although he thought Margaret Thatcher was quite Liberal. If he was still around he'd probably vote BNP. He wasn't nice.
My dm always refused to say how she voted, saying she placed great value, as a woman, on her right to a private ballot.

She was probably avoiding the ear bending he would have given her if she'd voted any other way than his.

They never said. Dad now does not vote as is apolitical / thinks they are all crap. He does have a point

We were firmly a Labour family when growing up, which wasn't easy in a staunch Tory village. My Dad nigh-on worshipped Neil Kinnock and used to swear at the telly if Thatcher appeared.
In later years my Dad turned Tory and then (boak) towards anything associated with Farage. I have no idea why. Mum shifted to Lib Dem but neither of them bothered to vote in the last general election.

My dad would vote Tory but, rather hilariously, they've made voting with ID only. He hasn't got a passport (hated travelling) and never got a driving licence with his photo on and retired his car a few years ago now. Makes me laugh that they think they're just hurting homeless and lefty students wheeling out the photo ID when their main voter base (who would never vote Reform) are my dad's age and older! I keep seeing the TV advertisements and smiling!

Mum and dad are swing voters. Neither of them are voting this time round.

Dad - Labour. He despises the Tory's.

Not sure about my mum but I assume she was Labour too.

My ds is voting for first time this year and says he'll vote Labour.

I'm a swing voter. I'll be voting Labour this time round. Despise current bunch of Tory's and where the party has gone.

Liberal although they’ll vote labour this time just to get the conservatives out.

I also remember him being completely charming towards my 5yo self - physically getting down to my level and really engaging with me.

Wasn't allowed to know,I suspect Tory because that allowed them to buy their council house.

Always had a soft spot for Tony Benn! I think modern politics really lacks people of principle and formidable intellect.

I'm pretty sure they both voted Conservative until they experienced Thatcher's first term as PM. They refused to vote Tory after that and switched to whatever the Liberal party was called at the time.

My Mother was a Tory, racist and a fan of Enoch Powell 🙄 My Father was Labour and not racist at all. I’m a left wing Feminist!

One of my earliest memories was of meeting Tony Benn at a rally when I was around 5!!

My parents were always Labour, it was like a religion for my dad for many years, but they have been disappointed in them of late. I think my dad will probably vote green at the next election. Not sure about my mum - probably green as well, but she might go back to Labour if she thinks it is the best shot at getting the Tories out.

Both my parents were staunch Labour voters. I was taken to see Harold Wilson, then leader of the Labour Party, giving a speech to a huge crowd in the Dome, Brighton, when I was about six. Although I was so young, I still remember the atmosphere being electric!

Labour. And my grandparents. And great grandparents. Trade unionists.
