Cameron for next Tory leader?

I liked him, I think making him Foreign Secretary was a great call but he’d need a by election in the next couple of weeks and frankly I think the country needs to move on from the Brexit era. I think the part not behind it can build a better relationship with Europe but still out of the EU and the next Tory government, which may not be for 10+ years needs to have left it in the past.

On a serious note, if Cameron were to become an MP, then it should be the final nail in the coffin of the House of Lords as a part of government. No need to abolish it - we all need to see what robes and furs look like "on". But they can fuck off with their power over us.

Witney constituency would have him back in an instant. He was a good local MP as well as being high profile. Robert Courts is terrible.

I actually got to see him give a "Cameron Direct" before the 2010 election at a local school. The video of this one wasn't put up on CCHQ. He was there for about 30 minutes and lost control of the discussion about 10 seconds in.

In his defence it was clear there was "something" going on, as despite everyone who asked a question having a job and a house, they all seemed concerned about people that hadn't got one or the other "because of them". The one time he got to speak about the NHS, an anaesthetist from South Africa asked why they should stay in the UK since we hated foreigners.

I think we know how that ended.

Cameron was the last Conservative MP I actually voted for BUT then Brexit, which I will forever loathe him for.

47% of the votes is actually a minority. Think the other parties need to group together strategically first the general election and put forward one candidate.

Does he? I listened to him being interviewed for a podcast a year ago and he was defending it then. Infuriating!!

The fool who gave us austerity, Brexit, hug-a-hoodie, the Big Society - aka volunteering (who ever knew that already existed!)? If he recommends one course of action, I'll probably plump for the one he discarded.

This is a man who, in the face of the debacle of his entire career, wrote a book about himself, accepted a peerage and took the role of Foreign Secretary.

His arrogance, sense of entitlement and certainty that his class of boy was born to rule give every indication that, if the chance arose, he'd jump at the chance to be PM again.

is he up for it though? He's been there, done it, got the t-shirt (and the peerage). He might not want to go back into all of that again, however good/bad we think he might be at the job.

Sorry but Cameron is an absolute idiot and responsible for the mess we have now. I can remember his big society and austerity....decades of decline to look forward to.

As long as it's not fucking Boris Johnson, I don't really care. Honestly, what is the deal with politics these days? It's just a constant rotation of the same sodding morons who refuse to go away. Are there no energetic, thrusting, young leaders rising through the ranks?
Don't even get me started on the US presidential elections - they've REALLY got problems..

It’s a very small if right now. Labour are on track for a bigger land slide than Tony Blair had when he became PM.

It’s technically possible, but practically difficult. He could be parachuted into a safe seat though.

That's a Council election in a Tory heartland. Completely irrelevant with regard to a UK-wide General Election.

If Cameron becomes PM that will mean that since September 2022. under the Tories, we've had three Prime Ministers -

Liz Truss - who wasn't voted in as PM
Rishi Sunak - who wasn't voted in a PM
David Cameron - who wasn't even voted in as an MP.

Also, during that time we've had three Chancellors of the Exchequer.

These have included the shortest serving PM and the shortest serving Chancellor (exluding a previous chancellor who died in office).

Thank goodness we have the strong and stable Tories in power otherwise things might be a right embarrassing shambles.

I think they’ll probably have to recycle a past PM or leader as they’re running out of options
