I should think all of that, @MrsBennetsPoorNerves , plus racism in selection processes when people do have skills.

I real hate that it's fuelled by people we pay to know better. It disgusts me.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 26/02/2024 12:53

I live in a very diverse and multicultural part of the country. Multiculturalism can work very well in some places.

Rather than leaping to the conclusion that it simply doesn't work, perhaps we should be investigating why it isn't working in some parts of the country, given that it works really well in others. E.g. is there an impact of poverty? Low levels of education? Other factors?

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/02/2024 11:07

That isn't to say that there are not nut jobs and troublemakers all over, in every ethnicity and religion. Some white middle aged men who hang around on conspiracy websites are prime candidates. I was in central London for a graduation ceremony when one of the first Palestinian marches was on. Those older skinhead types were roving in gangs looking for trouble, and the police were trying to separate them off.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/02/2024 10:59

I think multiculturalism is preferable to not having it. In numerous ways actually, apart from ethical -CIPD says that a multicultural and inclusive approach in workplaces is actually more productive in financial terms.

I think that the far right of the Tory party is whipping up Islamophobia for its own populist purposes, taking lessons from Bannon etc in America. Competing with the Reform party (limited company) whilst flirting with it. Fuck them.

Baileyscream · 26/02/2024 10:00

I feel that multiculturalism doesn't work. I like the idea of a big melting pot of cultures, religions, beliefs and ideas but I think the practicality is that we are a divided community. I do worry that the UK is becoming a pro anti Islam split. I wish the marches and protests would stop. They must scare the hell out of Jewish people in the UK and causing more znd more divide. I live near Rochdale and our politics seems split between voting for pro palistine or voting for local matters, people are talking locally and there is a clear split.

I think what is happening in Israel/ Palestine to average people is horrific but I have no skin in the game. I'd rather UK politics focused on issues here. If we have to get involved in a war or spend more money on one I'd rather we help Ukraine that get back involved with the middle East.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 26/02/2024 09:37

I think the general intention of @Beautiful3's post was pretty clear.

noblegiraffe · 26/02/2024 09:22

They were wittering on about far right Great Replacement conspiracy theory bollocks.

It is helpful to know (and particularly evident on this thread) that a subset of racists think that Muslim immigrants are deliberately coming here with the aim of ‘replacing’ and pushing out good old white folk from the U.K. and Europe.

1dayatatime · 26/02/2024 09:16

@noblegiraffe

"That article discusses Christianity now being a minority religion (I.e. practised by under half the population). The proportion of Muslims is far lower than this (under 10%) and is definitely a minority religion."

In which case then I have no idea what point @Beautiful3 was making.

noblegiraffe · 26/02/2024 08:52

I think the point that @Beautiful3 was trying to make is that that Muslims are no longer a minority religion in the UK:

What Israel are doing is illegal and wrong, people should boycott Israeli products but that's a choice. It's called freedom to choose and selling a brand should not mean you are effectively closed down.

Debate and peaceful protest is where it should start and end. I can understand that feelings are running high because of the suffering we are witnessing but riots won't stop it.

We need to pressure government to do something to stop Israel....stop selling arms and importing products would be a start

1dayatatime · 26/02/2024 08:40

@PinkTeaForMe

"Daily Mail doing what they do best and stirring the pot. Mumsnet closet racists all over it.

For the record, protests against the genocide are attended by thousands of British Muslims and non Muslims alike who stand together in peace. U. The idiots in this article don't represent the thousands of UK Muslims who are opposed to the illegal occupation."

So right now there is full on ethnic cleansing going on in Pakistan of 1.7 million Afghans but nobody seems to care.

www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2023/11/22/whats-wrong-the-silence-of-pakistanis-on-expulsion-of-afghan-refugees

Right now there is a full on genocide going on for over 10 years of Muslim Uighurs in China but I see no marches.

www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-22278037.amp

Even though Christianity is the largest religion worldwide, it is also the most persecuted religion worldwide, yet this rarely makes the news. This is especially the case in countries with larger Muslim populations., moreover these countries are characterized by their authoritarian nature.

www.statista.com/statistics/271002/persecution-of-christians-worldwide/

amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jun/25/left-persecution-christians-meriam-ibrahim-sudan

So what makes the situation in Gaza so different that it warrants the regular and large protests? It seems that genocide, ethnic cleansing or persecution slips by with barely a murmur when it is done by Muslims against fellow Muslims or by Muslims against Christians.

Could it be that it is not just the terrible events going in Gaza but the point that it is being done by Jewish Israelis that creates such outrage compared to the above.

Or to paraphrase your comment: "Anyone who doesn't want to see the real agenda ..... needs to have a word with themselves".

But rather than address the above points and double standards your stock answer is to dismiss them as either closet or overt racism.

Also, what's your evidence regarding the Muslim leader of the SNP intimidating the speaker? This is just made up shit.

If there are 3.8million Muslims in the UK, and they are no longer a minority, are you saying that our entire population is now less than 7.6million? What happened to everyone else that was here before?!

Or are you actually just saying that you don't really understand what is meant by the term "minority"?

@AndThatWasNY You have described the issue. When laws are broken by citizens, there should be consequences. It’s not racist say the Rochdale gangs weren’t pursued as they should have been due to race. It’s well documented and something we steer away from as being “racist”. It’s not. Fair and equal treatment of all is required and I would say the same if white people were given the benefit of doubt. Race does not matter if you break the law. If laws are broken by any group, and of course that included CofE employees(!), then we use the powers we have to prosecute. We must treat lawbreakers equally. If we don’t, society breaks down as we now see.

The racism on mumsnet has absolutely spiralled in the last few months.

Indeed.

What I find bizarre is that blatantly racist posts are often left standing while other posts get zapped for no apparent reason.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 26/02/2024 07:24

AndThatWasNY · 26/02/2024 07:20

Don't worry we have our own home grown cunts too. Look at the fools that attacked a paediatrician as they thought he was a paedophile. All the centuries of hidden child abuse within the church (still ongoing and being horribly covered up).
Your post comes across as racist despite your final sentence.

Agreed.

What do you mean by "we" exactly, and who are you claiming is a minority?
