From what I can see, after his entirely unconvincing "position" on gaza he has essentially disappeared from view. Blair notoriously used to do this a lot when he wanted to avoid legitimate questions, leaving brown nosing slaves to face questions from the proles.
So over to the mnet net, which I know has wise tentacles everwhere
Has the famous SIR dropped into your church fete/tombola recently? Selfies welcome.

@Firefly2009 I see the Tories are concerned enough to be making up a lot of rubbish about Labour on here . Can't wait to vote them out!

Should we measure him against Truss, who crashed the economy? Or Sunak who seems more invested in his wife's family's businesses than the country he's supposed to be running? I didn't think anyone could be worse than Johnson and yet here we are.
Who's next? Braverman? Farage?

LOL. I can see the election posters already:
"Starmer: not as awful as some."

Such a vote winner!

OP why didn't you put in your original post what you really think? instead we're getting a drip feed of counter arguments about why Starmer is shit.

Your original question has been answered. He's with NATO troops, flying via RyanAir. Okay?

I thought my initial post pretty clear to be honest. If in answer to my question I had been pointed to a genuine public appearance where he was answering questions/making clear statements I would genuinely have been more than pleased/encouraged.
As for troop appearances, low marks to whatever PR wonk suggested that ever so original stunt.
I would love to be a fly on the wall when squaddies are told that yet another British politico is flying in for a photo opp.

How many interviews did Johnson do when he was actually PM? Even when campaigning he only spoke to client journalists like Laura Kuenssberg who was so far up his arse her ankles were brown. Never went near anyone who challenged him. Remember the fridge?
Stunts like driving a forklift into polystyrene and waving kippers around were more his thing.
Of course honours should only be given to has-been ex-pms/sons of KGB agents or daughters/ex-shags of the PM (who is she?) rather them because of your job.

Measuring a labour leader against someone like Boris is hardly inspiring is it? Boris of course has always been a charlatan. I wasn't remotely surprised by his lack of availability for serious questioning.
But don't expect it of a labour leader/PM in waiting.
Blair used to do the same disappearing act when things got sticky, particularly on what many folk saw as moral foreign policy issues - me and a mate noted that at such times Blair went to ground and the hapless Minister for Fish was wheeled out to take the flack/prove his loyalty/paint himself brown.

Assisted dying is hardly a core electoral issue is it?

Not to you maybe.

ah I see from another post that it is a big issue for you personally. Very sorry to hear. I was of course speaking more generally.
happy christmas/new year.

maybe because they are still reading the tea leaves to figure out whether La Starmer is actually/even vaguely left wing?

So what - you'd rather keep the Tory shit show than have a more centrist Labour Leader?

centrist you say?
Can you outline these policies that make him "centrist"?
His "centrist" alternative to the "shitshow"?
Just so we know what degree of shit he might find acceptable?

The Opposition have no need to make any pronouncements about their manifesto plans until a general election is announced. Obviously a general direction can be deduced, but they don't have to say a word.

As others have said, Starmer has been doing something with the military, and is presumably now at home with his family for Christmas, the same as everyone else whose office has closed for the Christmas break.

well I meant putting himself in front of the public and making himself available for interviews - not transparent photo opps with "our boys". Thatcher looked far more fetching in her tank and goggles.
On public appearances, I couldn't help but notice that the Monday after her resignation Jess Philips was due to speak at a lecture in London but her appearance was pulled a mere three hours before the scheduled 6pm to 7pm appearance. Not criticising her as such, but call me cynical in my middle years - couldn't help but think La Starmer had told her not to appear in front of the untamed public in case certain questions were asked. Apparently she had had an "orthopedic incident" over the weekend which stopped her getting back to London. Starmer was unavailable for comment on any role he may or may not have played in this "orthopedic incident".
anyone any idea what his top tip is for the christmas number one - and his views on?

Is this a distraction from the current and former Tory PMs lying under oath at the COVID enquiry? Factory reset my arse.

MissyB1 · 21/12/2023 20:23

Offwiththecircus · 21/12/2023 17:04

Yep I read that. Well assisted dying is hardly a core core electoral issue is it? On the gaza tory thing there have been certain statements from the Tory side - notably ex defence minister. Starmer schtum/following as usual. I went on one of the marches - Starmer, Sunak and Braverman were equally mocked/derided/despised. But at least Sunak didn't appear on LBC and then lie about what he had said&&
&& correction - Mr disappearing didn't have the nerve to step forward and "reinterpret" what he had said - he got minions and mysterious spokespersons to do that for him. And I have barely seen him since - photo opps and obligatory parliamentary appearances don't count in my book.

So in other words Sunak is doing sod all about Gaza.

Offwiththecircus · 21/12/2023 18:36

>>So why on earth do you expect Starmer to take a view on what he would do?

Because it is entirely reasonable for Joe public and any reasonable interviewer to ask "what would you do?".
Entirely reasonable.
Anything else is just a a circus.

Oh you are very angry, aren't you? I hope life gets better for you very soon.

oo an attempt to patronise.
I have simply logged back on so am addressing lots of things at once.
Anger?
I think that's something Sir Keir could do with - genuine anger and focus.
Jess Philips has a fair amount of reasonable anger I think - tend to think that's why it was thought "politic" that she didn't appear. In front of some folk who quite probably had a certain anger of their own. And intelligence and perception.

I have no idea where to vote in the next election.
Starmer was interviewed on tv a few weeks ago and asked what Labour’s stance was on the GP’s strike and he replied that it was the Government’s problem and refused to provide any alternative plan when Labour came into Government. How can I vote for a party who can’t give me any clue about what they would do when they were elected?

Err there isn't a GP strike, you don't appear to know what your talking about.

There is a "Junior" Doctors strike and it will be long gone by the time of the next general election, which could be over a year away.

So why on earth do you expect Starmer to take a view on what he would do? thats down to the current Govt to resolve, Sunak could resolve it if he wished, the money involved is relatively small, after all, he has just reduced the govt tax take by £21 billion.

BeadedBubbles · 21/12/2023 18:20

well will wait but not at all hopeful for the glossy brochure on current indications.
I fear I may have to POUR some bodily fluid over it. (not IT's).
I do hope the proof read it.

You tried proofreading your own stuff op to make sure it makes sense?

That's really not what I said at all.

This

The Tories have form for stealing Labour’s plans.

Does Keir actually have any ideas?

Surely he can't be any worst than the state we are in now??? NHS is totally screwed, no NHS dentists to be found, economy is screwed need I go on?
