anyone seen starmer?

From what I can see, after his entirely unconvincing "position" on gaza he has essentially disappeared from view. Blair notoriously used to do this a lot when he wanted to avoid legitimate questions, leaving brown nosing slaves to face questions from the proles.
So over to the mnet net, which I know has wise tentacles everwhere

@Offwiththecircus I cared about Mr Johnson's private life because it indicated he treated women very badly. And that is just the things we know about.

Whereas with Keir Starmer, Rishi Sunak, indeed other current political party leaders, I have no such concerns and indeed agree it is therefore none of my business.

I think before we judge Keir Starmer on his appearance over the festive period (perhaps spending time with his family), we should not forget who the Prime Minister was in 2019. Likely to be spending time with someone else than his family, and for whom the current Prime Minister was happy to work with on terms dictated by an unelected advisor.

I care not about any politico's private life.
I didn't care about Berlusconi's private life.
"Concern" about that was a distraction from far more serious issues.
Are you confident that you have the inside track on Starmer's private life, that of other leading Labour folk?
As long as nothing illegal it's irrelevant in my book.

@Offwiththecircus - the Iraq war was terrible. But you'd be foolish to think he had much of a choice. Any British PM would have followed Bush in that climate & all Tory MPs voted for it too. And I speak as someone who found it abhorrent.

why did he have no choice?
I remember all too well Blair imitating Bush's swagger in his jeans and leather jacket. A toss up as to whether I found it obnoxious or just laughably pathetic.
What would have happened if he had gone another way? Plenty of European nations did as I seem to recall.

I thought it was in the news recently that "sources close to La Starmer" had intimated that he might not deliver on this. Will try to find the story, but please bear with me - am losing track of the backtracking on apparent pledges.
A kind doubtless well meaning person above did point me at a "mission statement" but I fear I wasn't too motivated to explore too deeply - if it is even possible to explore La Starmer deeply. I remember too well corporate "mission statements" from the 80s. "Mission statement" became a byword for meaningless bla. Am amazed that anyone still utters the word mission outside Star Trek.

And so short of ideas was he, as opposed to spin, that he buggered off immediately after the showbiz spotlight of him being PM somewhat faded. So ideas/ideals mysteriously deserted him when it was no longer about him. Am reading Rory Stewart's political biog at the moment - his take on Cameron on this issue reminded me of Blair.

Measuring a labour leader against someone like Boris is hardly inspiring is it? Boris of course has always been a charlatan. I wasn't remotely surprised by his lack of availability for serious questioning.
But don't expect it of a labour leader/PM in waiting.
Blair used to do the same disappearing act when things got sticky, particularly on what many folk saw as moral foreign policy issues - me and a mate noted that at such times Blair went to ground and the hapless Minister for Fish was wheeled out to take the flack/prove his loyalty/paint himself brown.

I don’t support any political party but am interested in Reform.
Many of you on here will be too young to remember ‘the winter of discontent’.
My OH was in the forces and returned from abroad to be put on standby to drive a Green Goddess as the firemen were on strike.

I’m trying to remember the rest. The binmen were also on strike and the local football fields were covered in smelly rubbish. It was chaos and I think Labour were in charge then.

The Tories are in charge now and nearly everyone has been on strike. Unheard of in the NHS or had that escaped your notice?

Starmer won't say what he'll do when Labour are in office until the run up to the General Election. Don't blame him. Why give Sunak his ideas? At least that's my thinking. Did Tony Blair give away his ideas before he became PM in 1997? It's so long ago that I can't remember!
