What's your predictions for the White House in November 2024.

@LipstickLil I don’t disagree that a Whitmer/Newsom ticket would be excellent, but I have serious doubts that Newsom would be happy if he wasn’t the headliner. Personally, I wouldn’t be happy if he was foisted on me, but could live with Whitmer.

Also, the primaries have begun and none of these people are currently on the ticket and it’s too late for them to get on now. In order to change the nominee, the DNC would have to engage in all kinds of shenanigans at the convention, and I’m not sure how well that would go.

And to quote @NoCloudsAllowed , Trump is indeed an abomination.

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/02/2024 17:21

Jill Biden really needs to have a word with her husband

while I agree, surely its highly likely she already has? It’s quite clear to anyone that he’s no longer up to the job, I assume he is so stubborn he is just refusing to be persuaded not to run.

on a more positive note an American (democrat) voter was on telly earlier and said his view was yes, he’s clearly past it, but it’s the people that the president surrounds himself with that matters more, not the actual president. True to a large extent.

NoCloudsAllowed · 19/02/2024 17:12

I don't think Biden is senile, but he should let someone else stand. Most people would crumble under the pressure of being president, I don't think you have to be senile to be not quite up to it and get wrong footed a bit.

Trump is an abomination who threatens global stability, so I'd still prefer Biden.

EasternStandard · 19/02/2024 17:00

I think it will be Trump but then change my mind

Not sure

@dubsie
Biden is too old and what America really needs is another Obama.... purely because of the intelligence he brought to the Whitehouse....for me he was by far my favourite president.

Biden has been FAR more effective than Obama ever was. Obama's main accomplishment was healthcare reform and he made the strategic decision to go for it, but the person who actually got it done was Pelosi. Obama himself was a pretty face and a great speaker, but notoriously disengaged with Congress. I doubt he'd do any better in average today - probably somewhat better at mobilizing the youth vote, but OTOH the mere fact of his racial background sadly helped mobilize the right wing Christo-nationalist vote as well and thus assisted the rise of He Who Shall Not be Named.

OP - just too close to call at this stage.

I am amazed that more isn't being made of the good Biden has done. It is fascinating isn't it?

Tracker1234 · 19/02/2024 16:56

Biden is senile and appears to have walked out of a care home wondering where and who he is! He honestly is embarssing and yet his wife seems to wallow in being the First Lady. She apparently blames all the people around him for putting him in certain positions but FGS he is the President of the United States.

This situation surely cannot continue. He honestly gets worse and worse and still no one steps in. I suspect he thinks he is doing a jolly good job despite the way he appears and what he says. He is that far gone...

Trump will win. The Democrats have just left it too late to do very much about it. This is on them. Shame on them.

LipstickLil · 19/02/2024 16:41

I was listening to the BBC's Americast podcast at the weekend and Justin Webb was saying that the situation for Democrats with Biden as their candidate is really desperate and I agree after that report last week (highly partisan though it was), saying his memory is too bad to get him in court to answer questions about missing govt documents that were in his garage. That plus several public gaffes in quick succession - confusing Merkel and Kohl, Macron and Mitterand. The great irony, of course, is that US economy is doing great and 'It's the economy, stupid!', except this time no one seems to be focused on that at all. They're too distracted by Biden's cognitive decline and the disaster at the southern border.

DH and I think that a Whitmer/Newsom ticket could win it for the Democrats, but Jill Biden really needs to have a word with her husband. I don't think he'd take the advice from anyone else. Right now, I'm really worried that, of the two Trump looks the stronger. But he's a deranged, dangerous narcissist who almost stole the 2020 election and who encouraged his supporters to storm the Capitol, plus he's also clearly suffering from cognitive decline. He stumbles over words, rambles, repeats himself, talks nonsense - if he was standing against someone young, eloquent and dynamic it would really stand out how incoherent he is. But so far his opponent is going to be Biden, who's even worse 😩

LR42 · 15/02/2024 16:23

I don't think anyone has said Biden is perfect, but Trump is evil.

How anyone can think he is the solution is beyond me. Why people can be so blind to his clear stupidity, illegal activity and scare mongering is beyond me.

The saddest thing is that these are the two candidates that the country has ended up with.

Trump makes G Bush Jr look a genius.

Hecate01 · 15/02/2024 04:48

Do all of you who've said Biden genuinely believe that it's him making decisions after the mistakes he's made publicly lately? From what I've seen he doesn't know where he is half of the time and he's getting everything mixed up.

Honestly I'm not goading anyone I'm just very interested in what people think about his capabilities and how he's making decisions.

MsAmerica · 15/02/2024 02:17

Biden. The problem is, unless the polls start to show this, and unless it's by a substantial margin, there is going to be an uproar of Trumpers. There have to be polls showing a Biden win is likely, making it harder for Trump to lie (or at least harder for people to believe him), and it has to be a big enough win so that re-counts will make no difference.

I'm not a fan of Biden but I sure would not want Trump to replace him. I honestly think America is in the middle of a identity crisis and the dollar is losing its leverage....which might explain all these conflicts.

For such a large and prosperous country they have made such a mess of things. They should be focused on health and education not wars

I bloody wish the UK would focus on health and education instead of wars!

dubsie · 19/01/2024 10:18

My personal opinion is this is the end of America, the nation is crumbling. Biden or Trump it's fate is sealed as another failed empire. The big difference if Trump gets into power is the state of the union....trump is likely to widen the gulf and lead to a civil war and could see states becoming independent.

MsAmerica · 16/01/2024 02:07

Biden. It was sensibly pointed out that many Republicans have left Trump, but almost no Democrat would be willing to switch to Trump, even if they are unhappy with Biden.

Even apart from Trump's ignorance, bullying, laziness, mendacity, vulgarity and viciousness, it's puzzling that so many of his followers don't care about his lifelong criminality.

dubsie · 19/12/2023 22:07

He will trash everything, the man has nothing good to say about anything.

What happened to the golden days of optimism in America.....for such a successful civilised country there is too much negativity. And Trump is nothing but negative.

Look at the growth of the American tech sector.... powering ahead....producing some of the best technology on the planet and most of the wealth.

America needs to progress not regress ....Trump represents the past and he shouldn't run.

Lizzieregina · 19/12/2023 18:56

Biden if he runs. He has accomplished a lot, but I agree that he has aged out. I’d love to see a new face and would definitely prefer Whitmer over Newsom.

I hope Trump is in jail, but it’ll never happen. I don’t know that I’m convinced Trump will even be the candidate. I know the polls say it will be so, but polls have been wrong. I’d prefer Haley over DeSantis but I’d never vote for her.

Lalalanding · 19/12/2023 18:53

I cannot stand either of them. They are literally as bad as each other. Biden throwing women under the bus and Trump throwing everyone under the bus.

Tracker1234 · 19/12/2023 18:53

Biden is senile and looks confused and should retire gracefully. What on earth is it still doing in post. Trump methinks

Linzi2377 · 19/12/2023 18:51

Trump..and i think he will do a decent job

Hopefully Trump will be in jail. I feel very "meh" about Biden. I don't mind that he's old, but his stance on the war in the Middle East has turned me off a little bit.

medianewbie · 19/12/2023 11:28

I too hope Trump will be jailed before the US election. I hope Biden steps down for a younger candidate. The Obama years seem so long ago now :(

MissyB1 · 19/12/2023 11:11

dreamingbohemian · 18/12/2023 22:56

If Whitmer or Gavin Newsom ran for the Dems they'd walk away with it

As it is I have no idea

Hoping Trump will be in jail before the election

Agree.

pd339 · 19/12/2023 11:09

Biden won’t run. The Dems will select a decent candidate who will win.
