She did indeed, and human nature being what it is, lots of people jumped very quickly on the opportunity to make money from it. It was a popular move! I was working in social housing in 1997, many of us thought it would be withdrawn when Labour were elected, but it was too much of a risk

Scotland and Wales have withdrawn it, only in England, where housing shortages are greatest, can people still buy council housing at a discount. I wonder if Sir Kier will have the bottle?

Starmer is not ideal but better than the Tories. I do think it's a shame Rory Stewart has left the commons though...

Thatcher is the one who established right to buy....she destroyed the working world and created a world where millions work and can't afford their rent. I'm not sure that's something you should celebrate.... people forget the damage but remember the excess and greed that many enjoyed but now is payback

I just hope we don't end up with what Americans have....two factions at war and with every political cycle the right become more rabid and hell bent on burning down their own democracy. It's becoming an impeachment cycle of revenge.

Margaret Thatcher had some experience of ordinary life, she made a huge impact on the aspirations of so many people. I voted Labour once, for Tony Blair, his partnership with Brown in their early days worked well, and a lot of their policies were sound. Not so sound to open our borders to A8 countries before Germany, France etc in 2004.

Now? No one stands out. Whichever party is brave enough to withdraw the Right to Buy might just get my vote.

Labour grandees only like establishment men who won't rock the status quo. Starmer is ideal.

I think Rory Stewart is basically the sort of person/politician Blair tried to be but he lacked substance.

The problem is Rory Stewart is considered far too wet and liberal for the Tory Party and probably too socially conservative for Labour (he was a backer of austerity). He's a Lib Dem ultimately but we get constrained by the two dinosaur parties, it's not conducive to producing good Prime Ministers.

Keir Starmar would be so much better than the last 4 Tory PMs. Maybe not perfect but serious and competent. I want a Prime Minister not an "entertainer", fruit loop or billionaire banker

She made the fatal mistake of putting party before country & the stupid red lines with the Brexit negotiations, but I do think she was a decent person & certainly not a grifter or would have rinsed taxpayers money on schemes for her mates.

I think the regional mayors are generally impressive & have leadership qualities - I could absolutely see Andy Burnham or Sadie Khan as prime minister.

Historically Thatcher is the only sensible answer.

Still alive but no longer in politics I think Michael Portillo would do a fantastic job.

Of the current crop Badenoch is clear front runner. It is quite likely she will win a leadership contest after Labour win the next GE. I think her in opposition will soon expose the Labour Party for the ineffective mess that they always are and they will be out after a single term.

Badenoch PM by 2029. Until then we all have to suffer I’m afraid.

Clem Attlee charisma didn’t matter back then or John Smith never tested but I think would have done a good job. No one looks sufficiently statesman/woman like until they’ve been in the role a while. Like others serious policies a gift for picking and building a cohesive team then trusting it and overall competency and a respect for the rule of law would go a long way.

Andy Burnham but sadly I think that's just a pipe dream.

Andy Burnham isn't liked by Labour grandees unfortunately which is why he was shunned last time. I'll vote for Kier but he's not my choice of Labour leader... reminds me of conservative light...but hopefully he will prove me wrong.

Noone is going to have first-hand experience matching all of the electorate.

What we can look for is someone who shows a desire to understand, who empathised, who has integrity and professional standards
