If there was a GE today who would you vote for?

Bit cheeky but I’m curious to see if there are genuinely any Tory voters out there at all following another disastrous week for Rishi Sunak.

So who would get your vote?

I‘ll go first, I would vote Labour. As much as I would love to hear more on policy and a firm grittiness from them, I do understand that Keir Starmer is doing the best he can, in that he can’t alienate a large proportion of the electorate so needs to toe the line.

There just aren't the resources to help everyone. The number of people claiming disability benefits is soaring hugely and those on lower incomes and lone parents have to be supported. Also the number of pensioners increasing hugely and all the costs of disability benefits for them as they age .I doubt any party will help those in the middle , there is just no money. It's a bit of a ticking time bomb I feel.

I agree with this, it’s difficult. The one thing Labour would bring is a fairer society, youth workers back, more police presence, more creative curriculums in schools, community based hubs like the surestart facilities that helped so many families. All of this surely creates a more encouraging environment for people to live in.

Conservative. I believe Labour would be worse, far worse, and I cannot reconcile the freedom of choice with the hard left.

The public voted for Brexit, including many solid Labour voters.

I could vote Labour or Liberal but the Conservative majority here is so big that a donkey wearing a blue rosette would win.

Same. And my MP doesn’t even live here and isn’t contactable outside of snail mail. May as well vote for a hamster.

I think I would actually have to vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party, I now appreciate their completely valid and serious offering.
I am 68 and would all my life have rather ripped my own head off than voted Tory, which was fine as long as there were viable alternatives WHICH THERE NO LONGER ARE.

Totally agree with you. It's like some people don't equate the cost of living crisis with our political leaders.

All I can say is please vote. As I said, the chances are the Tories will still get in. If you're not an active Conservative supporter then the best thing you can do is make sure they have the smallest possible majority.

Anything about his policy compared to the tories? Being a ‘drip’ doesn’t really cut it, he is much more credible than Rishi, Boris and Liz surely? He was the the director of public prosecutions, a real and very important job, I think he could be more gritty, but I’m so fed up of ‘personality’ politics. Look what happened with Boris Johnson when people voted on a false character that was purposely created to fool the general public!

The thing is, those on lower incomes being supported in reality means that there is no real benefit to being a middle income family. At the end of the month you are left with the same amount of disposable income, but are more burnt out from working and see less of your kids.

Genuine questions...Is there any party that will focus on the middle earners in the south east , where both partners work full time, who are struggling juggling mortgages, cost of childcare and self fund everything and are over threshold for any help or subsidies ie child benefit, cost of living payments, free childcare via universal credit?

We are just so sick of paying into the system and getting nothing back! The amount of tax we pay is insane, certainly not anywhere near value for money.

Labour just seem to want to focus on single parent families and those on universal credit.

If Starmer thinks Europe will let us back in on good terms, he is deluded.

As a business owner, I couldn't vote Labour.

I also think Education and Health/NHS should be devolved from government to a cross party Committee. Education is still suffering from Blair and his everybody should go to university idea.

There really is little choice.

It's a tough choice round here.. it's a historical Conservative stronghold but with Lib Dem support increasing at the grass roots level. I'm a natural labour voter but prob lib dem to hopefully finally push them out..

One of Labour’s 5 missions is to make Britain a clean energy superpower creating jobs in the process, that’s innovative and ambitious. This along with reforming education systems and childcare - just that alone is more than the tories have done in the past 13 years. Yes Labour aren’t perfect but they have a big job to swing votes from the far grubby right of politics to the centre left.
