If there was a GE today who would you vote for?

Bit cheeky but I’m curious to see if there are genuinely any Tory voters out there at all following another disastrous week for Rishi Sunak.

So who would get your vote?

I‘ll go first, I would vote Labour. As much as I would love to hear more on policy and a firm grittiness from them, I do understand that Keir Starmer is doing the best he can, in that he can’t alienate a large proportion of the electorate so needs to toe the line.

I'm in Scotland... what I vote means practically nothing in the grand scheme of things but on principle I'd vote Greens.

Exactly, the Labour party has for the past 13 years eroded the rights of women and indeed everyone else with the policies they have implemented.

I'm voting Tory. I can't see Labour doing anything even vaguely helpful to anyone but as they're currently tipped to win the GE I suppose people will need to find out the hard way.

Tory party were canvassing here today. DH opened the door to them, said "not in million years" and calmly closed the door again. Summed it up for me too though I'd have probably argued with them on the doorstep.

Exactly. I've seen people on 3 times (or more) the average saying their income is "modest". Some people have no idea.

I'd vote for whomever would get rid of my Tory MP. Right now I'm not actually sure whether Labour or Lib Dem would be that party in my constituency because it seems to be close.

How can you say they are not real policies?

Sunak promised that he would bring honesty and integrity to politics and so if he says he is scrapping these bonkers policies then why would you disbelieve him.

Old George down the pub was telling me all about these kind of woke policies the other week.

@LyndaLaHughes where I live is lush actually. My bank balance is very healthy too.

Public services have been dreadful for ages: we removed our dc from state education in the early 2000's, in the late 90's the NHS refused to provide either of our children with grommets. We had to pay under the Blair government. Blair initiated PCTs and grew PFI beyond all reasonableness.

And saying we don't vote for the PM is just the bollocks people tell themselves. Technically you vote for your local candidate but realistically people vote for a party and therfore the leader of the party.

I would spoil my vote. Don't know what Labour stand for, dislike the Tories and will never vote Lib Dem due to stance on self Id.

I’m not voting tories btw, but the state of cost/standard of living isn’t just happing in the U.K.

it’s not just happening in the UK. But ideological implementation of right wing policies since the 80s has meant that the UK is feeling the heat a lot more than your average family in say France or Germany.

Have you not been made at least 20% poorer in other ways during the Tory tenure? With real terms cuts in wages and the cost of living? I've certainly lost way more than that.

Without raising taxes for better quality of staff that won’t leave in droves due to micromanagement, bureacracy and working hours? Without raising taxes for fixing broken classrooms and missing resources? Without raising taxes to deal with a failing society and antisocial behaviour that has made teachers jobs impossible?

How about Labour just promises a free unicorn for each voter which kids of wealthy parents can ride onto their amazingly good school of choice.

It would depend on the quality of the candidates in my local constituency. In this country we don’t vote for a party or a prime minister. Instead we vote for a local MP. And there are some excellent ones of different political persuasions that it would be a shame to lose from parliament.

There just aren't the resources to help everyone.

Dont believe this, almost offended by the suggestion. I feel confident if we redistributed wealth, everyone would have enough to be comfortable. Whatever that means. Wealth inequality is quite a global problem which adds to the complication, but not buying that there isn’t more the UK can do.

There are the resources.

Total wealth of UK billionaires
• 2013: £246 Billion
• 2023: £684 Billion

How has this been allowed to happen? Whilst ordinary people cannot pay the rent, feed their families or heat their homes. The Tories have wilfully enabled this and anyone who cannot see that is deluded.
