If there was a GE today who would you vote for?

Bit cheeky but I’m curious to see if there are genuinely any Tory voters out there at all following another disastrous week for Rishi Sunak.

So who would get your vote?

I‘ll go first, I would vote Labour. As much as I would love to hear more on policy and a firm grittiness from them, I do understand that Keir Starmer is doing the best he can, in that he can’t alienate a large proportion of the electorate so needs to toe the line.

That's a really interesting POV.

I've always been a swing voter and not affiliated to any party. But yes I'm feeling it's time for a Labour government right now.

Not at all, different opinions are fine and needed this isn’t a pro-labour only thread I was just shocked how many people said Tory! I genuinely can’t understand it, I get why people won’t vote for labour but I don’t get why anyone would vote Tory after what they have done 🤷‍♀️

People can vote Tory if they like, its the contortions to try and justify it that entertain me.
The party that has done more to erode womens rights in their time in government must be voted for because they know what a woman is.

If either the Tories or Labour win the next election then I will fear for the future of my children.

Economically we are screwed so it doesn't matter who forms the next Government.

Presumably the Tories will campaign on this as it is the legacy of their 13 years in power.

Am I being unreasonable to point out that this part of their legacy disproportionately affects woman? Is this one of the advantages of knowing what a woman is, that some posters are so keen to repeat?

parents at my DC’s school are openly saying now that they cannot afford any more. Ours went up 5% this year. 20% is a lot more than that. Maybe if we’d not had huge increases in the cost of living people would have been able to weather the storm. Lots of kids in my DS’ year are taking the 11+ for the nearby super selective grammars, many more than usual. Most pupils usually stay on for seniors as it’s an all through school.

A vote for labour, Lib Dem or green completely ends any safety or dignity for women. At least now we can still debate it and win in the courts. Vote left wing and we are stuffed.

It’s an existential matter. If men can be women we have no recourse or protection in law or in society. Life then becomes very dangerous for girls and women and once that becomes enshrined in law it’s the devils own job to reverse it. I can’t believe any woman would vote for a party that is going to reduce her to a crude stereotype without protection from male privilege and all that entails.

Why the consistent need to avoid this important question?

Labour. To rebalance and bring the country back to more central ground, politically. Because the current Tories are not conservatives. They have moved far too far to the right. They have messed up badly and are too easily persuaded by vested interests which are not in the public interest. Our country is poorer and more divided after 13 years of their being in power. Because they gave us Liz Truss as PM.

Frankly the second they voted in Liz Truss they became unvotable. What an utterly absurd decision that was (and I say that as someone who would generally consider themselves more aligned with conservative politics)

I think the country has a very poor choice. I can't vote labour because they don't know the difference between men and women and neither do Lib Dems so I won't vote for them either. I really dislike Sunak he's a snake. I probably won't vote it's just so depressing.

But I genuinely don’t see how voting Tory could possibly be right? I get that Labour aren’t perfect, far from it but from the limited options we have due to the outdated and flawed voting system I don’t see a any other viable option, so not discussing why I am right more like discussing why people would possibly vote for another shambles

Traditionally Labour, but I can't vote for Starmer's absolute wolf-in-sheep's-clothing right wing takeover of the brand, combined with his love of corrupt authoritarianism and refusal to address the glaring unfairness and absurdity of our electoral system. And I honestly can't see how his "Labour" government is going to help, as it seems intent on following the same program as the Tories anyway, and will be answerable only to a toxic combination of Big Money interests and social conservatives who got us into this shitfest in the first place.

I might vote Green or Lib Dem as a show of support in principle (they won't get anywhere in my constituency) for parties willing to support PR. Best we can hope for is a minority Labour government requiring such parties' support to govern.

Well this is a depressing thread, what a selfish, incompetent and insular nation we have become!

I am shocked how many are openly admitting to voting Tory and even more shocked at the reasons, the most irritating being the ‘real woman’ issue. This government degrade women on a daily basis, reside over sexist institutions and hold draconian beliefs but yeah sure Labour are the real threat to women!

as possible debating points, : people wonder why after all the struggles to get the vote for all, this is what happens, people seem to forget the country as a whole or they vote on a whim then wonder how x party got into power etc
