Apparently, this is highly likely to happen according to someone I know. He’s been right about a lot of things. I hope he isn’t right about this.

He doesn’t work for the government but is close to various sources. If you don’t believe it, that’s fine. But if you even Google you, will find it linked to Liz Truss as PM. There have been rumblings about it from the conservatives since at least 2016.

I can't see teachers accepting this. We've already voted to strike in EIS union over the 5% pay rise offer. That's the vast majority of primary teachers. I'm not sure of the SSTA/EIS breakdown at secondary.

They are slowly unpicking lots of rights that we had. And will continue to do so. Nothing would surprise me with these awful clowns. But still think that’s a step too far.

Exactly. He’s the one behind the ‘paid holidays are not a right’ rhetoric. He’s an awful man who would bring back workhouses.

Those saying this is scaremongering, let’s hope that you are right and this idea doesn’t have time to come to fruition.

As others have said, nobody will notice until it’s too late if it all happens gradually.

I don’t want to be outing but let’s just say I work pretty closely with government on policy issues. I can categorically say this is not going to happen. I mean, Truss is as mad as a hatter but she is not that bonkers.

You realise that she wants to win the next GE? Can you think of a single policy that would be more unpopular than this? 😆

The Brexiteers I know (which luckily isn’t many) were saying nothing bad would happen as a result of leaving the EU and it was all scaremongering. Now that bad things ARE happening as a direct result, they have shifted their position to ‘Oh well, the Illuminati runs the world so my vote didn’t do anything’.

Nobody gets paid leave? Most people get paid vacations. Usually starts at 2 weeks a year but the longer you work some where the more you earn. People also get paid holidays (like your bank holidays). I remember as a kid my father had 8 weeks paid vacation a year.

Lots of people in the US get less than that, and there's pressure/expectation from employers for people not to take the holiday they're entitled to. It's helpful to the employer that there is "no fault" dismissal - so you can lose your job for any or no reason with almost no notice and no compensation.
We sometimes hear from MNers in the US that they get a few weeks' holiday a year, negotiated a good deal, yada yada. These are the privileged few. Try that approach if you work at the local cafe or factory.

People have also shown they are willing to strike for higher pay. They sure as eggs is eggs will strike if there is any move in this direction.

Companies are allowed to plug strike action with zero hours workers. Companies don't have to pay you when you are on strike. Win win for them.

I mean all you'd have to do to win is be the party who will re-instate paid leave! Nobody would really care about your green policies, tax brackets and NI, the working class will just want their holidays back and won't give a fuck about the rest of the manifesto produced 😂

Not sure it makes political sense, labour would obviously put it back in, so unless the Tories want to actively loose leadership I'm not sure why they would.

Labour could just have one promise in their manifesto. Re-instate paid leave for workers and that would be it.

Truss backtracked on the “no handouts” rhetoric fairly swiftly. I wouldn’t take too much notice of her silly words. It’s a pose. She’ll crumble like a Norfolk cliff at high tide.
