I don't disagree with much of what you write about the Tories OP. But the Tories being Tories is not a good enough reason for me to vote Labour. Women like me have been insulted and told that Labour is not for people like us. Why would we vote for them?

Yes this is the problem with labour - they peruse their own agenda while ignoring the feelings of voters. Therefore they stand for nobody.

Their continued support for remain after the referendum result was the epitome of arrogance and stupidity. You can't ignore your core voters and still expect them to vote for you.

What they should have done is come up with a left wing Brexit - then they might have had a fighting chance. In fact, Corbyn was a life long eurosceptic but had his hands tied by the labour thought police.

Being 'less bad than the Tories' isn't good enough. Labour need to reform.

I used to vote labour but I've abstained lately.

Labour are a bunch of champagne socialists who actively sneer at the very people who form the core of their voters, the working class! Until they reconnect with that section of voters then they stand absolutely no chance of being re-elected. Yes they will do better in the next GE but that's simply because this Tory government is such a shower of shit not because Labour are saying anything worth listening to.

Yes, I think that labour will do better in the next GE, but I still think that they are disconnected from their working class voters, and have been for many years.

I still cannot get over the complete and utter stupidity of labour supporting a second referendum in the last GE. Regardless of personal feelings, a simple algorithm looking at voting patterns across constituencies could have told them that this was a losing strategy. And as a result, labour and Lib Dems have been kicked out of seats in working class communities all across the Midlands and north. This is entirely their own fault. They have lost the trust of their working class voters.

Labour need to remember their purpose and stop the endless purity spirals.

OP, I'm a floating voter. My views are pretty middle of the road, some a little left leaning, some a little right. My standards have dropped so low over the last few years in terms of what I expect from a government. I'm now just hoping for a government in the next GE that doesn't irrevocably fuck up the country even more. The current government most certainly weren't 'ready' for government though. A different party can't come soon enough.

Labour didn't lose the GE because of Corbyn, Corbyn did pretty well in the GE prior to last. Labour lost the GE because they refused to support the Referendum result, which many, many traditional labour voters voted for. They came across as the arrogant political class who simply wouldn't listen to the people. As someone said up thread, you can't call people thick racist bigots and then complain that they aren't voting for you.

I'm sure there are many labour voters who voted Tory in the last election simply because the Torys were prepared to honer the referendum result. This is where labour always falls down - they simply will not listen to the people.

Whether the Torys borrowed labour voters return to voting labour in the next election remains to be seen, but I suspect that a number of them will. This has nothing to do with Starmer vs. Corbyn, but everything to do with the handling of the Brexit referendum in my view.

She's widely disliked on left and right. One of the reasons Labour are unelectable in their current form.

KS saying that only women have a cervix is 'something that shouldn't be said' was the final straw for me. If that's not telling people what to think on this issue I don't know what is. For me, it's like watching them insist that grass is purple. Bizarre and unsettling.

The right seized an opportunity to divide. However Labour could have easily avoided making themselves look divorced from reality by not making statements that are divorced from reality.

I don't think calling her vile specimen of humanity is fair. She isn't my cup of tea and guilty of much of the intolerance I have described in my posts above, but she's hardly going round kicking kittens or gun running.

at least she is capable of making the Tory front benchers squirm though and attract attention to what she is saying. Even if you don't agree with what she has to say she is very effective and passionate in opposition.

For that reason it always makes the news when she stands in for Starmer.
