One of the MPs who resigned was interviews after the Liason Committee in the HoP lobby. He said in the interview that they all knew what Boris was like from the start, but it suited them to have him as Conservative Leader and PM.

It's utterly despicable - The Conservative Party is despicable.

I agree. I am no anarchist but it feels like the whole political system is broken. I can't see how the public can recover faith and trust in politicians.

I want Boris to stay so long term damage is done to the Tories and their reputation.

I heard an interesting take on this on the radio earlier.

It was basically, yes everyone knew he had no personal morals, everyone knew he wasn't particularly competent, but that was OK if it got him (and them) elected, but despite all the sleaze, outright lying is actually really rare in politics. Questions are avoided, truths are distorted, but the straightforward lie is one thing that's still not accepted.

He is not being allowed to veer away from the answer, he is being made to answer.

Lots of ‘getting on with what the public voted me in to do’. Pity he isn’t - he’s too busy with all of this.

Resignations coming in even as he is speaking. He has to go.

Bj having to wait for laughter (at him) to subside prior to continuing his points was very satisfying, however this was only brief before frustration at ehat he was saying resumed!

Quite a few of his own mps were very vocal, I particularly enjoyed someone from the tories asking him what he thought it would actually take for him to resign.

But I don't think he will, his arrogance won't allow it.

I think it was awful and all parties need to get their houses in order with regards to behaviour of their MPs.

Blackford couldn't even mention Pincher or the whole disgusting debarcle because of what has happened recently with an SNP MP.

If i understood well…

MPs can sign letters to oust the PM. You need enough of them for a vote to happen (and decide if the PM is seen as acceptable to MPs or not). That’s the letters to the 1922 committee.

They did that not long ago and should now wait a whole YEAR before they can call a new vote. Allegedelly. Because rules don’t seem to be really followed any more 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

One of my issues with Starmer is that he only seems capable of reacting not being proactive in any way, and that’s pretty much what’s he’s done again today. If he didn’t have BoJo as his fall guy, he wouldn’t have anything to say.

That's not what I've seen.

Perhaps I've misremembered, but eg at the beginning of the pandemic I remember Starmer being the one coming up with the ideas and Johnson just floundering and fluffing... only to follow Starmer's idea two days later.

I found myself thinking Starmer was in power, but not in office.

Happened recently with the windfall tax too.

Problem is Johnson just thinks he has to tell us all Starmer has no clue and we'll all believe him.

Starmer may not be better. But I won't believe Johnson telling me it's Wednesday so 🤷‍♀️

I am just catching up with this, Gove was missing and has been for a while now, but Truss and Patel were also missing from the front bench,

But I am not sure if Truss is in the country at the moment
