Writing to my MP to get Boris to resign

@MrsSkylerWhite that may be true of the MP you worked for but I know that other MPs do indeed take note. ( I used to work in the cabinet office ).

IF they get the 54 letters, is it only Conservative MPs who vote on the no confidence vote ?
I tried looking it up , but I didn't get very far.

Five resignations down and Boris is now quoting from The Lion King to his staff. This Starmer/Savile lie he’s been saying is so corrosive of public trust in politics, coming on top of everything else. Does he even know the difference between truth and lies? He needs to go.

No, as I said I used to work for an MP. She is still an MP. I left a well paid job in the private sector to do so because I, stupidly, thought I would be making a difference.

I did not hide letters! Quite the contrary. I did my very best to bring them to her attention. She wasn’t particularly interested if they did not agree with her politics.

That is why I no longer work for an MP. I resigned as soon as I realised a. they were mostly there to further their own aims and b. the idea that I could do some good was incredibly naive to the point of laughable.
I stuck it for just over a year. I jumped, I wasn’t pushed. Received a very oily letter a couple of weeks later thanking me for my hard work: written by my replacement, no doubt.

I shared an office with the wife of another MP, she was his PA. She told me before I left that I ought to stand because I had been a damned sight more effective in helping constituents than my boss was.

So, you work for an MP, and you actively hide away constituents' letters, @MrsSkylerWhite?

(40, actually: they really don’t care in safe seats but write away if it makes you feel better, their assistants will “file” your letter)

She didn’t receive/read the letters. I did.
I proffered opinions on trends but I assure you, in a safe seat (30 years plus, now), they really don’t care.

She might not give a shiny shite about their opinions, but she won't be able to ignore the number of letters she's getting!

Nope. My boss was in a very safe seat (not Tory!) and she didn’t give a shiny about contrary constituents’ opinions.

I've emailed mine, but she's a total knob-head apologist, so not holding out any hope. Just wanted to voice my displeasure.
I've voted against her for over 15 years but she sticks like shit to a blanket.

Hmm. I wrote (again) to my MP yesterday and still haven't had a reply. I wonder what will happen? Will he reply, or will he ignore me? TBF to him, he has always replied to me before, even if it was a c+p reply.

Let's just hope that (unlike in 1997) things can only get better. Maybe just maybe whoever takes his place has learned and grown from their mistakes?

Boris’s failures apart from the lying to the House and public. For starters:

PPE contracts
Sending Covid positive hospital patients back to care homes
Covid death rate
Mismanaged NHS and primary care
Lack of funding for education
Housing crisis
Reduction in police services
Increasing NIC against a promise of no increases

Those asking for a template letter, my MP won’t respond to them, you also need to put your name and address on your correspondence if you want them to take notice. I wrote a while back, she replied saying that she was waiting for the report but she had had over 500 letters that were saying the same thing. I will never vote for her but she has been willing to abstain rather than follow the party line, I may wear her down eventually!

Once Boris goes, the deaths will go up up up. Likewise the number of Long Covid disabled.

Then again it's going to happen either way now. Boris is desperate to hang on and will do what is asked. In this case, removing/never implementing the simple and easy basic infection control measures that would allow us to genuinely 'live with' SARS-COV-2.

Re template letters. I expect that the ERG will have one.

We had better brace ourselves. 534 deaths in just one day, and many more left disabled, is just the start.

There will be long term health and economic implications with a significant proportion of the working age population disabled by Long Covid.

Boris going is one thing. The reasons why - and crucially the motivations of those behind the campaign for him to go right now, are quite another.

Let's just hope it's not a question of out of the frying pan into the fire.

I wonder if some of the electorate, who would usually vote for a donkey with a blue rosette will in future give more thought to the character of the candidate in future, always astounds me that likes of Raab/Rees-Mogg/Bridgen/Patel etc etc appear to have massive majorities.
I would also say the same about some Labour candidates if they are as loathsome as some of the above, I have a Labour MP although I didn’t particularly like Jeremy Corbyn I voted for her as she is an outstanding MP.

@mum2jakie that's probably what I would get back - they spectacularly miss the point really. Far as I'm concerned no government should ever be telling me I can't attend a relative's funeral because my naughty body might kill somebody. So if it turns out they in fact believe the risk to be so small that they can have a few drinks, why can't we? We all need social contact and the loneliness broke me.
